A non-transitory computer readable medium stores instructions that cause a processor to receive an indication of an event associated with an industrial automation system, wherein the industrial automation system includes a plurality of devices configured to perform a plurality of operations within the industrial automation system, and wherein each of the plurality of devices includes a compute surface configured to perform one or more software tasks, determine a plurality of data processing tasks to perform based on the event, identify a portion of the plurality of devices to perform the plurality of data processing tasks based on the compute surface available for each of the plurality of devices, and deploy a container to each of the portion of the plurality of devices, wherein each container of each of the portion of the plurality of devices is configured to perform at least one of the plurality of data processing tasks.

Systems and methods for condition-based deployment of chainable compute operations for constrained computing devices

A method may involve receiving, via at least one processor, a request from an industrial component operating in an industrial automation system, such that the request may include an indication of a software function. The method may then involve querying a container registry having a plurality of container images based on the software function, identifying at least one container image of the plurality of container images that corresponds to the software function, sending an indication of the at least one container image to the industrial component, and receiving a selection of the at least one container image from the industrial component. The method may also involve retrieving the at least one container image from the container registry and sending the at least one container image to the industrial component.

An industrial automation system may include a first computing device that may receive operational technology (OT) data from industrial automation devices of an industrial automation system, determine identities of the industrial automation devices based on the OT data, determine that the OT data includes data attributes having variations as compared to additional OT data, transmit the identifiers and the data attributes to a second computing device in response to determining that the data attributions have the variations, receive containers including updated digital representations of the industrial automation devices from the second computing device, execute the containers to output additional data attributes, and send commands to the industrial automation devices to modify processes based the additional data attributes.

Data driven digital twins for industrial automation device operation enhancement

A cloud-based edge-as-as-service (EaaS) system allows edge gateways to be easily configured and deployed on the cloud for collection, contextualization, and egress of industrial data to downstream applications, including analytic applications, work order management systems, or visualization systems. The EaaS system uses predefined device profiles to automatically discover relevant data items on plant floor devices and present these data items to a user. Model configuration interfaces served by the EaaS system allow the user to map selected data items to predefined models for organizing or contextualizing the selected data, and for egressing the contextualized data to the target applications. These model configurations can be deployed on the cloud platform as edge gateways that use the resulting information models to collect and contextualize relevant items of device data during runtime and to export the modeled data to the target application.

Techniques for data transmission within an industrial automation system include modeling or simulating, in accordance with a model, a plurality of devices performing one or more operations in an industrial automation system, determining, for a first operation of the one or more operations and from a plurality of categories, a category for the first operation, sending a request to the industrial automation system for data associated with the first operation at a time, wherein the data and time are determined based on the category of the first operation, receiving, from the industrial automation system, the requested data, and modifying the model based on the received data.
