A shaft assembly for transmitting a torque in a driveline system. The shaft assembly comprises an outer shaft member that extends along an axis and includes an interior surface defining a bore and a plurality of outer grooves at least partially delimiting the bore. An inner shaft member extends along the axis and includes an outer surface defining at least one of a plurality of inner pockets or a plurality of inner grooves aligned with the outer grooves. At least one rolling element is located between the outer grooves and the inner pockets or the outer grooves and the inner grooves. At least one of the outer surface of the inner shaft or the inner surface of the outer shaft is configured to axially retain the at least one rolling element and the shaft assembly does not include a ball retaining cage.

A constant velocity joint assembly includes a constant velocity joint. The constant velocity joint assembly also includes a sealing boot in contact with the constant velocity joint. The constant velocity joint assembly further includes a boot protector disposed on a radially outer surface of a portion of the sealing boot. The constant velocity joint assembly yet further includes a first fastener coupled to the boot protector to secure the boot protector to the constant velocity joint.

Constant velocity joint protector

A boot for a shaft assembly joint and method of construction thereof are provided. The boot has a flexible hollow wall extending about a central axis between a first end and a second end. The first end has a skirt portion configured for snug engagement with an outer surface of a housing of the constant velocity joint and the second end has a neck portion configured for snug engagement with an outer surface of a shaft extending away from the constant velocity joint. At least one of the skirt portion and the neck portion has interior surface formed of a first material having a first coefficient of friction and an exterior surface formed of a second material having a second coefficient of friction, the first coefficient of friction being greater than the second coefficient of friction.

A constant velocity joint is provided with at least a pair of tracks whose geometry is defined based on ball path that follows a parametric equation and the parametric function is in the form of a polynomial displacement function of a fourth order or larger.

A watercraft steer-by-wire control system for watercraft comprising: a direction control system including a rudder position sensor; a helm control system including at least one of; a helm position sensor to produce and transmit a helm position signal and an optional torque sensor to produce and transmit a helm torque sensor signal. The system optionally including a watercraft speed sensor and a master control unit in operable communication with the watercraft speed sensor, the helm control system, and the direction control system. The master control unit includes a position control process for generating the directional command signal in response to the watercraft speed signal, the helm torque sensor signal and the helm position signal. The master control unit includes a torque control process for generating the helm command signal, based on the helm torque sensor signal, the helm position signal and the watercraft speed signal.

Watercraft steer-by-wire system

A steer-by-wire system includes a steering wheel; a steering wheel sensor coupled to the steering wheel for sensing the position of the steering wheel and producing a signal indicative of the position of the steering wheel; a controller in signal communication with the steering wheel sensor for receiving the signal indicative of the position of the steering wheel from the steering wheel sensor and producing a signal indicative of a desired steering wheel feedback torque; and a tactile feedback device in signal communication with the controller for receiving the signal indicative of the desired steering wheel feedback torque and providing a corresponding torque to the steering wheel.

Tactile feedback control for steer-by-wire systems

A chassis control network architecture having an electronic control module mountable on a steering column subassembly is disclosed. A first communications bus is connected to the electronic control module and an actuator control module is in communication with the electronic control module, through the first communications bus. The actuator control module is further connected to an electric steering motor, and is capable of receiving a steering input command from the electronic control module and applying it to the electric steering motor.
