An integrated diagnostic system includes interface connectors to connect to a plurality of instruments/instrument modules, including engine analyzers, gas analyzers, oscilloscopes, scanners, network connections, and/or other desired peripheral modules. These modules advantageously interface to the system through diverse parts, connections and with various protocols. The system may connect to a network, wired or wireless, for interfacing among processors and modules, and with an internet connection for interaction with remote resources including databases and expert systems.

Integrated diagnostic system

A vehicle diagnostic display unit is provided for performing diagnostic procedures on a vehicle using only one hand. The vehicle diagnostic display unit includes a case, a display screen, a main support, and a plurality of keys. The case has a front portion, a rear portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion. The display screen is disposed within the front portion, and the main support is coupled to a side of the case. The main support is configured such that a user can simultaneously lift and operate the diagnostic display unit with a single hand.

Single-hand held diagnostic display unit

A ROM is provided with sufficient input address terminals for receipt of a unique address for each data storage location, even though the number of ROM input addresses exceeds the capacity of the processor and address bus. A dual mode read operation includes a random address mode for randomly accessing the ROM and a sequential address mode for accessing sequentially stored data strings at a high access rate. A first portion of the bus addresses are allocated as random reading mode bus addresses, the bus addresses having direct correspondence with ROM addresses. Other bus addresses are allocated as sequential reading mode bus addresses for addressing the ROM in sequential ROM address order for reading data. Successive output by the processor of the same sequential reading mode bus address effects application to the ROM of sequentially numbered ROM addresses. The first numbered address of the plurality of the sequential ROM address string is loaded as data into at least one counter. Processor output of the sequential reading mode address effectuates application of the contents of the counter as an address to the ROM and increments the counter so that a successive output of the same address by the processor causes the incremented address to be applied to the ROM. This arrangement has particular applicability in vehicle diagnostics equipment.

Method and implementation for addressing and accessing an expanded read only memory (ROM)

An apparatus for measuring ignition charge signals produced by coils of coil-on-plug devices of an internal combustion engine. A signal detector comprises an insulating substrate having a first conductive planar layer on a first side and a second conductive planar layer on a second side. The first layer is coupled to a signal wire and the second layer is coupled to a ground wire. When the signal detector is held in close proximity to the coil of the coil-on-plug, ignition signals generated by the coil and passing to the plug are detected. The detected signals may be coupled to a signal analyzer for display and analysis. The amplitude of the signal that is output by the signal detector may be adjusted to different coils having different output signal strengths by modifying the ratio of the surface areas of the first layer and the second layer.

A device for testing pairs of wires in a cable which includes a testing console having known means for performing tests on the wires and having a test fixture with a plurality of pins extending through a mating surface, the pins being arranged and arrayed to enter holes containing wires to by tested in a terminal fixture, the terminal fixture having holes into which wires may be inserted and held by friction, the holes opening in a terminal fixture having the holes in the same array as the array of pins in the test fixture so that when the terminal fixture and the test fixture are brought together with the same orientation the pins extending from the test fixture enter the holes in the terminal fixture and make a circuit between the testing console and the wire, and the console includes a rotating switch arrangement to bring both ends of each wire into circuit with testing equipment consecutively and one-at-a-time.
