A surgical instrument is disclosed herein. The surgical instrument can include an end effector that includes jaws configured to transition between an opened condition and a closed condition, a plurality of electrodes positioned within the jaws of the end effector, a control circuit, and a memory configured to store an algorithm configured to cause the control circuit to determine an impedance signal based on signals received from the plurality of electrodes, detect a media positioned between the jaws of the end effector based on the determined impedance signal, determine a position of the detected media based on the received signals, and generate an alert associated with the detected media and the determined position.

Devices, systems, and methods for detecting tissue and foreign objects during a surgical operation

Treatments and devices for generating and using interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra). An implantable device is loaded with adipose tissue and/or white blood cells and inserted into an inflammation site in a patient to produce interleukin-1 receptor antagonist in vivo. The implantable device has an enclosed or substantially enclosed body that defines an internal space. At least a portion of the body comprises a first bioresorbable material and a second bioresorbable material is within the internal space along with one or more voids. The second bioresorbable material includes an activation surface to activate adipose tissue and/or white blood cells loaded into the device to produce IL-1ra.

Implantable device for production of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist

A bone marrow aspiration assembly including an outer cannula assembly, an inner cannula assembly, and a flexible seal. The outer cannula assembly includes an outer handle and an outer cannula defining a first passageway and including a plurality of first openings between a first end and a second end of the first passageway. The inner cannula assembly includes an inner handle and an inner cannula defining a second passageway and is configured to be received within the first passageway. The inner cannula includes a plurality of second openings between a first end and a second end of the second passageway. The flexible seal is mounted to the inner handle and positioned such that the seal contacts the outer cannula assembly when the inner cannula assembly is in cooperation with the outer cannula assembly to create a substantially airtight seal therebetween.

Disclosed is an aspiration assembly including an outer cannulated needle having a tip, a threaded collar, and an inner aspiration needle. A material can be aspirated through at least the inner aspiration needle. The distance that the tip of the inner aspiration needle extends from the tip of the outer cannulated needle changes when the inner aspiration needle is rotated relative to the outer cannulated needle.

Material can be withdrawn through the withdrawal tube.

An aspiration assembly including an outer cannulated needle having a tip, a threaded collar, and an inner aspiration needle. The threaded collar is mounted to an end of the outer cannulated needle opposite to the tip. The inner aspiration needle has a tip at a first end and a threaded portion proximate to a second end. The inner aspiration needle is inserted within the outer cannulated needle such that the tip of the inner aspiration needle extends beyond the tip of the outer cannulated needle and the threaded portion of the inner aspiration needle threadably engages the threaded collar. The distance that the tip of the inner aspiration needle extends from the tip of the outer cannulated needle increases when the inner aspiration needle is rotated in a first direction relative to the outer cannulated needle.
