Disclosed herein is an electrophotographic imaging member comprising a substrate, and a charge generating layer containing a phthalocyanine pigment, a binder, and a solvent. The charge generating layer has a pigment particle separation distance of 28 nm or less after evaporation of the solvent. A coating system, a method of making an electrophotographic imaging member, and a method of printing also are disclosed.

Electrophotographic imaging member and method of making same

Overcoat layers, which may be useful for reducing torque in electrophotographic photoreceptors, are provided. The overcoat layers include a polymer matrix having a particulate inorganic lubricant and a particulate fluoropolymer uniformly dispersed therein. Also provided are electrophotographic photoreceptors that include a substrate and the overcoat layers, electrophotographic imaging apparatuses that include such photoreceptors, and methods for forming the photoreceptors.

Electrophotographic photoreceptors having reduced torque and improved mechanical robustness

A ghost removing device for a marking apparatus includes a photoreceptor, a primary charging device, an erase light generating device to generate an erase light when activated, a voltage source to supply a charge voltage to the primary charging device, and a controller configured to control the at least one voltage source to supply the charge voltage to the primary charging device and to activate the erase light generating device substantially simultaneously after transfer of a toned image within a marking cycle. A ghost removing method for a marking device with a photoreceptor, including performing a partial print cycle, applying an erase light to the photoreceptor, and applying a charge voltage to the photoreceptor, wherein the erase light and the charge voltage are applied to the photoreceptor substantially simultaneously after completion of the partial cycle.

Methods and devices for removing latent image ghosts photoreceptors

The amount of lateral charge migration (LCM) on a photoreceptor is quantified by measuring the average potential of a latent image formed on the photoreceptor surface. The surface is first uniformly charged, then exposed a first time to an image. After a waiting period during which LCM may occur, the surface is exposed a second time to the image. After another waiting period, the average potential is measured. The amount of LCM may be quantified by varying the waiting periods.

Method for detecting lateral surface charge migration through double exposure averaging

A photoconductive imaging member with linear and proportional collection efficiencies and substantially constant photoinduced characteristics comprised of a supporting substrate, and thereover in, for example, certain weight ratios, a single layer comprised of a mixture of a photogenerator component, a charge transport component, an electron transport component, and a polymer binder, and wherein the photogenerating component is a pigment.

Imaging members

According to the present invention is an electrophotographic imaging member which is a thin dual layer structure comprising a top layer of a durable and wear-resistant layer and a bottom layer which is bipolar. The electrophotographic imaging member of the invention may be top surface charge generating or bottom surface charge generating and in either case has an overall negative charging mode of operation.

Electrophotographic imaging members

A photoconductive imaging member containers of a supporting substrate, and thereover a single layer comprised of a mixture of a photogenerator component, a charge transport component, an electron transport component, and a polymer binder, and wherein the photogenerating component is a pigment.

An ionic medium, e.g., an ionic liquid, gel-like solid, etc., contacts a photoreceptor, e.g., as used in xerography etc., in order to charge and/or discharge the photoreceptor. A measuring device, e.g., an electrometer or current meter, measures at least one characteristic, e.g., voltage or current, and, if desired, light intensity, of the photoreceptor during or shortly after charging and/or discharging operations.

Apparatus and method for assessing a photoreceptor

An electrophotographic imaging member including a substrate, a charge generating layer, and a charge transport layer including a hole transport host material, a trace amount of a shallow trap dopant having a shallow trap electrochemical oxidation potential between about 0.02 volt and about 1.5 volts lower than that of the hole transport host and a film forming binder.

An electrophotographic printing machine has a photoreceptive member. The photoreceptive member is charged and then exposed with a light image representation to form a latent image. An electric field, less than that required to re-charge the photoreceptive member, is applied to the latent image to increase the rate of discharge of the exposed portions of the latent image. The latent image is then developed.

Discharge of photoreceptors

A detachable imaging module for an electrostatographic printing apparatus, including: (a) a housing; (b) a cylindrical, rotatable photoreceptor at least partially disposed within the housing, wherein the photoreceptor has a non-imaging area; and (c) a frictional drive apparatus in contact with the non-imaging area for facilitating rotation of the photoreceptor by frictional contact, wherein there is absent a rotational drive gear coupled to the photoreceptor.

An electrophotographic imaging member has a support, and at least one photoconductive layer having from about 90% by weight to about 10% by weight of the photoconductive particles of a photosensitive substituted perylene pigment, and, correspondingly, from about 10% by weight to about 90% by weight of at least one other n-type photosensitive pigment that is sensitive to shorter wavelength light than is the perylene pigment.

Charge generation layers comprising pigment mixtures

An apparatus for charging an ionographic member, comprising an electrically insulating substrate containing affixed thereto a plurality of electroded grooves each capable of retaining a single wettable fiber, thereby forming a collection of fibers in contact with the substrate; a resin layer that isolates said fibers from each other, and that adheres the fibers to the electroded grooves; providing an ionically conductive fluid to said collection of fibers; applying an electrical bias to said fibers thereby transporting ions through the fibers to the surface of said ionographic member and which ions charge said member.

An electrophotographic imaging member is prepared by applying a charge generating layer to an underlying layer and drying the charge generating layer at ambient temperature.
