There is provided a tackifier composition especially suited for use with natural rubber latex and formed from an olefin resin, preferably a polymerized terpene hydrocarbon resin condensed with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride, optionally partially esterified with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 alcohol or phenol, and neutralized with a base, preferably a volatile base such as an amine, and then dispersed in an aqueous medium. The tackifier when added to a latex forms compositions useful particularly as pressure sensitive adhesives.

There is provided a corrosion inhibiting alkoxy silane characterized by an alkyleneamino group attached to silicon through a Si--C linkage, a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group attached to an amine group and a terminal group which may be saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group containing 6 to 20 carbon atoms, a saturated or unsaturated aminoaliphatic or amino cycloaliphatic group containing 6-20 carbon atoms; NHNH.sub.2 ; NH(CH.sub.2).sub.n N(R).sub.2 ; or a ##STR1## group where R.sup.2 is a saturated or unsaturated alkyl or haloalkyl group containing 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The invention also provides a method of inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces by applying a coating containing or consisting of a novel silane as above described.

Silane compositions

Compounds having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X is the 2-(1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-yl)oxy, R is --(CH.sub.2).sub.p -- where p varies from 1 to 3; R' is (CH.sub.2).sub.n -- where n varies from 1 to 7; R' is hydrogen or methyl; and m is 0 to 4.

There is provided a novel class of alkoxy silanes useful as corrosion inhibitors for metal surfaces and characterized by an alkylene group attached to silicon through a Si--C linkage. These compounds also contain nitrogen as an amine or an imine group in a linear or cyclic structure. Sulfur and/or a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group may also be present. The invention also provides a method of inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces by applying a coating containing or consisting of a novel silane as above described.

There is provided a stabilized aqueous base tackifier composition characterized by the presence in an aqueous medium of a resinous tackifier composition having an acid number in the range from 30 to 150 and a softening point in the range of from -40.degree. to 150.degree. C., a minor amount of a nonionic or anionic surfactant and a minor amount of an elastomeric latex. There is also provided a method of stabilizing an emulsifiable tackifier composition which comprises adding to such composition, a minor amount of a surfactant and a minor amount of an elastomer.

Stabilization of tackifying resin dispersions

Resinous coating compositions can be expediently heat cured by phenol compounds containing at least two methylene amine groups which are conjugated with the aromatic alcohol group or phenol group. The hydroxyl group substantially increase the reactivity of the aminomethyl functionality whereby active hydrogen containing resins can be effectively cross-linked.

Epoxy resin is reacted with a terminating agent to eliminate at least part of the epoxide groups of the resin and form modified resin. An acid-solubilized aqueous dispersion particularly suitable for use in the cathodic electrocoating art and stable up to pH of about 9 comprises the product of reacting substantially all of the epoxide groups of a polyether diepoxide with from about 1.25 to 2 moles of a polyamine having from 2 to 5 amine groups to form a precursor adduct and subsequently reacting this precursor adduct with about 0.2 to 2 moles of a mono-epoxide having a hydrolysis-resistant normal alkyl group of at least 4 carbon atoms to form a substantially epoxy-free polyamino polyhydroxy polyether resinous adduct, a sufficient proportion of the amine groups of said polyamine being primary or secondary to provide an amino hydrogen for reaction with every epoxide group of both the diepoxide and the mono-epoxide, and about 0.05 to 0.4 weight parts (per part of the resinous adduct) of an aminoplast resin having at least about one gram-equivalent of carboxylic acid groups with pK.sub.a from about 2 to 6 per 1,000 grams of aminoplast resin for catalyzing heat-induced curing of the resin mixture. The coatings cathodically electrodeposited from such dispersions exhibit superior corrosion and detergent resistance when cured at moderate temperatures.

Aqueous dispersion of polyamino polyhydroxy polyether resinous adduct

A resinous copolymer polyelectrolyte product is produced by a process for addition polymerization of reactants having from about 0.0005 to 0.0050 neutralization equivalents of ionizable monomer per gram. The aqueous reaction mixture for polymerization contains both a cosolvent in proportions low enough to avoid formation of a solution of the polyelectrolyte in the final aqueous medium and an ionizing agent sufficient to ionize at least about 0.0001 neutralization equivalent of said ionizable monomer. The polyelectrolyte has a mean weight average not substantially in excess of 100,000 molecular weight.
