A cementing method includes positioning a bottom plug at a casing shoe, rupturing the bottom plug, signaling when a top plug reaches a target position, and releasing a chemical into a cement slurry below the top plug in response to the signaling. The signal may comprise a mechanical trigger changing its position due to movement of the top plug past the target position.

Cementing methods and systems employing a smart plug

Color-tunable lighting devices and methods of use

A lighting device () includes a housing (), a light converter (), one or more light sources (), and one or more optical waveguides (). The housing includes a light exit () for outputting a combination of primary light () and secondary light (). The light source emits a primary light beam of a primary wavelength. The optical waveguide includes an input end () optically coupled to the light source, and an output end () facing a housing interior () and positioned at an angle to an axial direction through the housing interior. The optical waveguide directs the primary light beam from the light source, through the housing interior and toward a luminescent material of the light converter. The luminescent material emits secondary light of one or more wavelengths different from the primary wavelength in response to excitation by the primary light beam. The light source may be mounted outside the housing interior so as not to obstruct light propagation.

Lighting devices utilizing optical waveguides and remote light converters, and related methods

Sealant compositions comprising: a wellbore treatment fluid; a set modifier; and, a polymeric component that inhibits release of the set modifier; wherein exposure to ionizing radiation causes degradation of the polymeric component resulting in release of the set modifier and an increase in the mechanical strength of the sealant composition.

Radiation-induced triggering for set-on-command sealant compositions

A fiber-based reflective lighting device and a housed lighting device. The fiber-based reflective lighting device which includes a source configured to generate a primary light, and a substrate having a nanocomposite mat of reflective fibers having a diameter less than 1,000 nm which diffusively reflects light upon illumination with at least the primary light. The nanocomposite mat includes a reflectance-enhancing coating conformally disposed around an outer surface of the fibers, having a refractive index different from the reflective fibers, and which increases a reflectance of the substrate in the visible spectrum. The lighting device includes a light exit configured to emanate the reflected light. The housed lighting device includes a housing, a source configured to generate primary light and direct the primary light into the housing, the reflective nanocomposite mat of reflective fibers, and a light exit in the housing configured to emanate the reflected light from the housing.

Reflective nanofiber lighting devices

A photoluminescent nanofiber composite includes a nanofiber substrate, first luminescent particles, and second luminescent particles. The first luminescent particles are supported by the nanofibers and span at least a portion of a substrate surface, as a layer on the substrate surface, or with some particles located in a bulk of the substrate, or both. The second luminescent particles are disposed on the substrate. The second luminescent particles may be disposed directly on the substrate surface or on the first luminescent particles. The second luminescent particles may be deposited in a pattern of deposition units. The first and second luminescent particles are configured for emitting light of different respective wavelengths in response to excitation by a light beam. One or more surface treatment coatings may be provided at different locations.

Photoluminescent nanofiber composites, methods for fabrication, and related lighting devices

A fiber-based reflective lighting device and a lighting device. The fiber-based reflective lighting device includes a source configured to generate a primary light, a mat of reflective fibers which diffusely reflects light upon illumination with at least the primary light, and a light exit configured to emanate the reflected light. The lighting device includes a housing, a source configured to generate primary light and direct the primary light into the housing, a reflective mat of fibers disposed inside the housing at a position to reflect the primary light, and a light exit in the housing configured to emanate the reflected light from the housing.

A fiber-based reflective lighting device. The lighting device includes a source configured to generate a primary light, a substrate including a mat of reflective nanofibers, and a light exit configured to emanate the reflected light. The fibers have an average fiber diameter AFD less than 500 nm which diffusively reflects visible light upon illumination with at least the primary light. The mat has a basis weight less than 40 gram per square meter (gsm) and a reflectance greater than 80%.

A stimulated lighting device for stimulatable light emission including a luminescent sheet including light stimulatable particles which emit secondary light upon receiving primary light. The lighting device includes a source configured to generate and direct the primary light obliquely onto the luminescent sheet, at least one reflector configured to reflect at least a part of the primary light and a part of the secondary light onto the luminescent sheet and configured to reflect at least a part of scattered primary light and a part of the secondary light from the luminescent sheet toward the light exit, and a light exit configured to emanate light as a combination of the primary light and the secondary light.

Stimulated lighting devices

A device for stimulable light emission that includes a fiber mat of nanofibers having an average fiber diameter in a range between 100 and 2000 nm, and includes plural stimulable particles disposed in association with the nanofibers. The stimulable particles produce secondary light emission upon receiving primary light at a wavelength &#x3bb;. The average fiber diameter is comparable in size to the wavelength &#x3bb; in order to provide scattering sites within the fiber mat for the primary light. Various methods for making suitable luminescent nanofiber mats include: electrospinning a polymer solution including or not including the stimulable particles and forming from the electrospun solution nanofibers having an average fiber diameter between 100 and 2000 nm. Methods, which electrospin without the stimulable particles, introduce the stimulable particles during electrospinning or after electrospinning to the fibers and therefore to the resultant fiber mat.

Luminescent device

A method for producing a fiber membrane of nanofibers that have both smooth and porous surface features. The method includes materials processing using polymer mixes with solvents and melt polymers with additives. The method includes nanomaterial incorporation onto a fiber structure after formation of the fiber structure. The fiber structure can be a part of a nanoparticle carrier material, a nanoparticle disposal medium, a lighting medium, and a catalysis medium.
