Embodiments of the invention are directed to a macromolecular chemotherapeutic. A non-limiting example of the macromolecular chemotherapeutic includes a block copolymer. The block copolymer can include a water-soluble block, a cationic block, and a linker, wherein the linker is connected to the water-soluble bock and the charged block.

Macromolecular chemotherapeutics

Techniques for localized surface modification for microfluidic applications are provided. In one aspect, a method includes: contacting at least one portion of a surface with at least one tri(m)ethoxysilane-containing solution under conditions sufficient to form at least one silane monolayer having a given contact angle on the surface thereby modifying a flow rate over the surface. The silane monolayer can include a silane derivative selected from: trimethoxysilyl-propoxypolyethyleneoxide (TMS-PPEO), hexadecyl-triethoxysilane (HD-TES), tridecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetrahydrooctyl)triethoxysilane (TDF-THO-TES), and combinations thereof. A device modified in accordance with the present techniques is also provided.

Localized surface modification for microfluidic applications

The disclosure describes methods and therapeutic compositions comprising polymers modified with N-alkyl-hydroxy groups comprising one or more carbon atoms. The compositions are useful for gene delivery, and exhibit broad-spectrum antiviral activity and low toxicity in vitro.

Therapeutic compositions comprising n-alkyl-hydroxy polymers

Biodegradable cationic block copolymers are disclosed, comprising a hydrophilic block comprising first repeat units derived from a first cyclic carbonyl monomer by ring-opening polymerization, wherein more than 0% of the first repeat units comprise a side chain moiety comprising a quaternary amine group; a hydrophobic block comprising second repeat units derived from a second cyclic carbonyl monomer by ring-opening polymerization; an optional endcap group; and a chain fragment derived from an initiator for the ring opening polymerization. The cationic block copolymers form aqueous micelle mixtures suitable for antimicrobial applications.

Antimicrobial polymers and methods of manufacture thereof

Oxycarbosilane materials make excellent matrix materials for the formation of porous low-k materials using incorporated pore generators(porogens). The elastic modulus numbers measured for porous samples prepared in this fashion are 3&#x2013;6 times higher than porous organosilicates prepared using the sacrificial porogen route. The oxycarbosilane materials are used to produce integrated circuits for use in electronics devices.

Porous organosilicates with improved mechanical properties

A method is provided for carrying out depolymerization of a polymer containing electrophilic linkages in the presence of a catalyst and a nucleophilic reagent, wherein production of undesirable byproducts resulting from polymer degradation is minimized. The reaction can be carried out at a temperature of 80&#xb0; C. or less, and generally involves the use of an organic, nonmetallic catalyst, thereby ensuring that the depolymerization product(s) are substantially free of metal contaminants. In an exemplary depolymerization method, the catalyst is a carbene compound such as an N-heterocyclic carbene, or is a precursor to a carbene compound. The method provides an important alternative to current recycling techniques such as those used in the degradation of polyesters, polyamides, and the like.

Catalytic depolymerization of polymers containing electrophilic linkages using nucleophilic reagents

Crosslinked particles are provided that are useful in the manufacture of dielectric materials for use in electronic devices such as integrated circuits. The crosslinked particles are prepared by activating crosslinkable groups on synthetic polymer molecules, where the crosslinkable groups are inert until activated and, when activated, undergo an irreversible intramolecular crosslinking reaction to form crosslinked particles.

Preparation of crosslinked particles from polymers having activatible crosslinking groups

Defect-free dielectric coatings comprised of porous polymeric matrices are prepared using nitrogen-containing polymers as pore-generating agents. The dielectric coatings are useful in a number of contexts, including the manufacture of electronic devices such as integrated circuit devices and integrated circuit packaging devices. The dielectric coatings are prepared by admixing, in a solvent, a polymeric nitrogenous porogen with a high temperature, thermosetting host polymer miscible therewith, coating a substrate surface with the admixture, heating the uncured coating to cure the host polymer and provide a vitrified, two-phase matrix, and then decomposing the porogen. The dielectric coatings so prepared have few if any defects, and depending on the amount and molecular weight of porogen used, can be prepared so as to have an exceptionally low dielectric constant on the order of 2.5 or less, preferably less than about 2.0. Integrated circuit devices and integrated circuit packaging devices manufactured so as to contain the dielectric material of the invention are provided as well.

Defect-free dielectric coatings and preparation thereof using polymeric nitrogenous porogens

The present invention relates to an insulating foamed polymer having a pore size less than about 1000 .ANG. made from a copolymer comprising a matrix polymer and a thermally decomposable polymer by heating the copolymer above the decomposition temperature of the decomposable polymer.
