Medical grade adhesive compositions comprising a homogeneous blend of one or more pressure sensitive adhesive materials and one or more natural or synthetic polymers capable of developing elastomeric properties when hydrated such as gluten and long chain polymers of methyl vinyl ether/maleic acid are disclosed. The compositions may also include one or more water soluble hydrocolloid gums and may additionally contain one or more water swellable cohesive strengthening agents.

Adhesive compositions

An adhesive composition adapted for use with an ostomy appliance consisting of a mixture of a hydrocolloid gum, a pressure sensitive adhesive, and a cohesive strengthening agent. The cohesive strengthening agent is either an inert natural or synthetic fibrous material, finely divided cellulose, a cross-linked dextran, a cross-linked carboxymethylcellulose, or a starch-acrylonitrile graft copolymer.

Ostomy adhesive

A composition adapted for use around the stoma consisting of a homogeneous mixture of a pressure sensitive adhesive component, mineral oil, and hydrocolloid gums or cohesive strengthening agents or a mixture of hydrocolloid gums and cohesive strengthening agents. By controlling the amount of mineral oil the resulting composition can be easily shaped according to the particular need.

Ostomy composition

Non-rancid absorption ointment bases are provided which have a high capacity for water absorbability and are capable of withstanding elevated temperatures and are formed of gelled mineral oil and an ester of non-rancid isostearic acid such as sorbitan triisostearate, sorbitan sesqui-isostearate, or triglyceryl diisostearate, or an ether of non-rancid isostearyl alcohol such as polyethylene glycol diisostearate. Water-in-oil non-rancid creams resulting from the incorporating of water or medicinal solutions into the above bases are also provided and are capable of withstanding elevated temperatures. The above ointments and creams may be employed as carriers for medicaments such as antibiotics, anti-bacterial agents, antihistamines, anti-fungal agents and the like.

Topical and other type formulations are provided in the form of creams, lotions, ointments, injectables, and drops which contain a pharmaceutical, such as a steroid, dissolved in an isosorbide solvent system.

Steroid formulations in the form of creams or lotions which are used as topical anti-inflammatory agents are provided wherein the steroid, such as 21-chloro-9.alpha.-fluoro-.DELTA..sup.4 -pregnene-11.beta.,16.alpha.,17.alpha.-triol-3,20-dione 16,17-acetonide, is at least partially dissolved in a ricinoleate vehicle such as castor oil.

Topical steroid formulation in form of lotion or cream

Steroid ointment formulations of the solution and biphasic types which are used as topical anti-inflammatory agents are provided wherein the steroid, such as 21-chloro-9.alpha.-fluoro-.DELTA..sup.4 -pregnene-11.beta.,16.alpha.,17.alpha.-triol-3,20-dione 16,17-acetonide, is at least partially dissolved in a ricinoleate vehicle such as castor oil.

Topical steroid ointment formulations

On contacting a moist aqueous surface, a fine particle size hydrocolloid suspended in a non-aqueous water-immiscible mobile liquid attaches itself through rapid hydration to the moist surface. Drainage of the mobile liquid leaves a coating of the particles of the hydrocolloid on the surface. If a radiopaque agent or a medicinal agent is co-suspended with the hydrocolloid, a uniform thin layer of the agent will be carried by the particles of hydrated hydrocolloid onto the moist surface.

Hydrocolloid containing liquid carrier for a diagnostic or therapeutic

Bandage which can be applied to the skin in place of the normal surgical dressings comprising an adhesive layer, a layer of flexible semi-open cell polymeric foam, and an outer water impervious flexible polymeric film coating.

Surgical bandage

Stomal devices having controlled release so that disposable stoma bags can be easily replaced without disturbing the peristomal covering attached to the skin. One such device comprises a peristomal covering including an adhesive member and backing member formed of polymeric material having a geometric pattern embossed therein. Another embodiment comprises attaching such embossed polymeric material directly to the adhesive face plate of a disposable stoma bag. Another embodiment comprises forming the stoma bag from the flexible embossed polymeric material which can serve as the backing member.
