A voltage regulator circuit can include two feedback loops, such as to reduce or suppress an unwanted transient condition in an output voltage during transient conditions such as during startup or during load current demand transients. One of the two feedback loops can include a shunt device arranged to provide a temporary current pathway during the transient condition to change current provided to a load connected to an output of the voltage regulation circuit. In addition, or instead, the voltage regulator circuit can include an open-loop regulation circuit separate from a loop corresponding to the first error amplifier. The open-loop regulator circuit can operate in a lower-power mode as compared to a closed-loop regulator circuit. A portion or an entirety of the voltage regulator circuit can be implemented in an integrated circuit, such as monolithically.

This disclosure is directed to, among other things, techniques to quickly replenish a capacitance of a laser diode driver circuit after an optical pulse, which can enable a burst of pulses (more than one pulse), such as to enable pulse coding. An energy reservoir circuit can be coupled to a laser diode driver circuit and to a power supply circuit and configured to store enough energy to fire the RD laser diode driver more than once. The energy reservoir circuit can act as an intermediate interface between the RD laser diode driver and the power supply circuit to better optimize the current requirements of each block.

Multi-phase laser driver techniques

Techniques that can prevent the low dropout (LDO) output voltage degradation that occurs with conventional LDO regulators, even with large LDO supply variations. An LDO regulator circuit can include another loop that is much slower than the main LDO regulator loop, concentrates the load regulation, and fixes the voltage regulation runaway problem due to the large supply variation with large frequency content. The LDO regulator circuit can include a negative feedback correction loop that corrects the LDO output by, in some examples, adding sink current to the main voltage regulation loop via a programmable current sink element.

Circuits and methods for compensating microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gyroscopes for quality factor variations are described. Quality factor variations arise when mechanical losses are introduced in the gyroscope's resonator, for example due to thermoelastic damping or squeeze-film damping, which may hinder the gyroscope's ability to accurately sense angular velocity. Quality factor compensation may be performed by generating a compensation signal having a time decay rate that depends on the quality factor of resonator. In this way, artifacts that may otherwise arise in gyroscope's output are limited. Additionally, or alternatively, quality factor compensation may be performed by controlling the force with which the gyroscope's resonator is driven. This may be achieved, for example, by controlling the average value of the drive signal.

Quality factor compensation in microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gyroscopes

Various embodiments provide methods of determining the quality factor of a resonating body in ways that are advantageous over previously known methods. For example, embodiments allow the determination of the quality factors of a resonating body without preventing the simultaneous use of the resonating body. For micromachined ('MEMS') devices, embodiments allow the determination of the quality factors of a resonating body in a manner that is not dependent on transduction parameters of the MEMS device.
