Disclosed is a method for performing printing on a plurality of media sheets in an imaging device. The method includes receiving a change-mode command while printing on a media sheet of the plurality of media sheets. Specifically, the printing is being performed by utilizing a first print mode. Also, the change-mode command comprises a request for changing the first print mode to a second print mode. The method further includes performing printing on subsequent media sheets of the plurality of media sheets by utilizing the second print mode. The imaging device for performing printing on the plurality of media sheets is also described.

Disclosed is a method for printing a media sheet in a media processing device. The method includes aligning a first portion of a printhead of the media processing device to a print area of the media sheet. The method further includes printing the print area of the media sheet by traversing the printhead over the print area in a first direction. The printing is performed by the first portion. Further, the method includes aligning a second portion of the printhead to the print area by adjusting the media sheet relative to the printhead by an index distance in a direction perpendicular to the first direction. Thereafter, the method includes reprinting the print area by traversing the printhead over the print area in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The reprinting is performed by the second portion.

A method for generating a tonal response curve for a scanner includes (a) directing light from the scanner to a calibration target having a single uniform neutral tone; (b) measuring with the scanner an amount of incident light reflected from the calibration target to obtain a simulated optical density value associated with the calibration target and the amount of incident light; (c) changing the amount of the incident light; (d) repeating acts (b) and (c) until a predetermined number of simulated optical density values are accumulated; and (e) generating the tonal response curve for the scanner by matching each of the simulated optical density values with one of a plurality of reference optical densities.

The invention provides a system and method for detecting the presence of an ink jet printhead when a printhead controller fails to properly identify an installed printhead using a printhead identification device. The system includes a printhead including heater resistors and control elements, and a controller connected to the printhead via address and data lines. When the controller fails to properly identify an installed printhead, the controller operates to bias the control elements in a predetermined manner via at least one address line, detect a signal via the data lines, and generate a signal indicative of the presence of the installed printhead.
