A large rectangular baler is provided with a crop material feeding arrangement including curved duct defining a pre-compression chamber from which a pre-compressed crop material charge is ejected, through an inlet of a baling chamber, by a stuffer arrangement. The duct includes a rear section curved about a horizontal, transverse axis and a stuffer frame, that carries a reciprocable tine arrangement, is mounted for rotation about this axis. A double acting injection cylinder reciprocates the tine arrangement between retracted and extended positions, respectively, wherein transversely spaced tines are withdrawn from, and extended into, slots provided in a top wall of the duct rear section. A double-acting hydraulic lift cylinder is provided for controlling the pivoting of the frame for effecting lifting of a pre-compressed charge of crop material and ejecting it through the baling chamber inlet.

A side-delivery rake includes a main frame comprising right- and left-hand frame members which diverge rearwardly and are interconnected at their forward ends by a front support assembly and are further interconnected by front, intermediate and rear braces. The intermediate brace is constructed of a cylindrical tubular member and is bent to include opposite end sections that are respectively disposed at right angles to the right- and left-hand main frame members. Identical bell cranks are mounted for rocking about opposite ends of the intermediate brace and include first arms respectively connected, by suspension chains, to identical upstanding brackets fixed to a rake reel support basket extending beneath the main frame, and second arms respectively connected to right- and left-hand lift cranks.

An implement is coupled for being driven and towed by a tractor. A pedestal shaft is slidably mounted to the tongue of the implement and is coupled to the tractor PTO by a telescopic shaft which during turning and certain rolling and or pitching conditions of the tractor acts to cause rearward shifting of the pedestal shaft from a normal operating position. A spring assembly resists the rearward movement of the pedestal shaft and returns it to its normal position once the condition which caused its rearward movement no longer exists.

Control mechanism employing a 'joy-stick' unit in conjunction with electrical rocker switches, featuring a mounting bracket secured to the joy-stick unit and carrying a pair of rocker switches. The angularly movable elements of the unit are transmitted to the switches by hairpin-like 'shafts' having legs engaging the faces of the respective switches.

Disclosed is a hay conditioner of basically typical construction in which the improvement lies in adjustable stop means for use in setting and varying the clearance between the upper and lower conditioning rolls. There is provided at each side of the machine a means including a lever arm disposed below a support for the upper roll and pivoted at one end on the adjacent side of the machine frame, the other end being connected to a screw-threaded adjustment link effective to elevate the lever for engagement with the upper roll support and thus to selectively limit downward movement of the upper roll under action of the usual biasing means. Thus, the upper roll is free to move upwardly in response to crops passing between the rolls, but its downward movement is limited to the stopped position selected by the adjustment link. The link extends upwardly to a free end that is easily accessible to receive a force-applying tool.

Method and means for adjusting hay conditioner rolls

An agricultural tractor as a rearwardly extending drawbar and a rearward PTO output shaft connectible to an input drive shaft on a trailing PTO driven implement through a telescoping drive assembly, which includes front and rear universal joints. The drawbar is connected to the implement tongue through a hitch adapter which provides articulation between the tractor and the implement about a vertical axis that is equidistant from the two universal joints, so that the universal joints articulate at equal angles when the tractor is turned relative to the implement. The hitch adapter includes a housing having top and bottom walls, a vertical pin being insertable into vertically aligned bores in the top and bottom walls and into a vertical bore in the drawbar to connect the hitch adapter to the drawbar, the adapter having a vertical pivot element rearwardly of the pin for pivotal connection to the forward end of the implement tongue. A locking device is provided on the housing to releasably lock the pin in said bores to prevent inadvertent separation of the hitch adapter from the drawbar, and shim means are provided between a horizontal plate and the top wall of the housing to vary the clearance between the plate and a bottom wall of the housing to accommodate different vertical thicknesses of a tractor drawbar, the drawbar being disposed between and abutting the plate and the housing bottom wall.
