A method is disclosed for heat treating raw material components of a cement clinker prior to admitting the components to a reactor for sintering the components to form the clinker. A calcareous component of the raw material is preheated with a hot gas flow and admitted to a furnace in a calcioning stage. Fuel combusted in the furnace heats the calcareous component to a calcination reaction temperature and calcines the component. The calcined component is transferred to a furnace in a superheating stage where a fuel is combusted to further heat the component beyond a sintering temperature at which a calcined component and an argillaceous component sinter to form cement clinker. The superheated calcareous component is transferred to a sintering reactor. Hot gas from the furnace in the sintering stage is flowed to a second heat exchanger to preheat and dehydrate an argillaceous component of the raw material. The dehydrated argillaceous component is transferred to the sintering reactor and sintered with the superheated calcareous component with the sensible heat of the calcareous component supplementing the heat needed to maintain sintering and the reactor providing only the heat as needed to augment the heat of the calcareous component.

Method for heat treating cement clinker raw materials

A method is disclosed for heat treating raw material components of a cement clinker prior to admitting the components to a reactor for sintering the components to form the clinker. A calcareous component of the raw material is preheated with a hot gas flow and admitted to a furnace in a calcining stage. Fuel combusted in the furnace heats the calcareous component to a calcination reaction temperature and calcines the component. The calcined component is transferred to a furnace in a superheating stage where a fuel is combusted to further heat the component beyond a sintering temperature at which a calcined component and an argillaceous component sinter to form cement clinker. The superheated calcareous component is transferred to a sintering reactor. Hot gas from the furnace in the sintering stage is passed to the furnace in the calcining stage to augment the heat in the calcining stage furnace. A flow of hot air from a cement cooler is passed to a second exchanger to preheat and dehydrate an argillaceous component of the raw material. The dehydrated argillaceous component is transferred to the sintering reactor and sintered with the superheated calcareous component with the sensible heat of the calcareous component supplementing the heat needed to maintain sintering and the reactor providing only the heat as needed to augment the heat of the calcareous component.

Method for preheating cement clinker raw materials

A suspension preheater adapted to be connected to the feed end housing of a rotary kiln or the like, whereby kiln exhaust gas emerging from the feed end housing passes through the preheater in countercurrent heat exchange relation with particulate feed material for the kiln which passes through the preheater from a feed inlet end contiguous the upper end of the preheater to a feed discharge end at the lower end of the preheater, comprising one or more cyclone means arranged in series gas and particulate feed material flow relation with respect to each other, means for admitting the particulate feed material from a feed material supply source to the upper portion of the preheater, a hollow preheating chamber at the lower portion of the suspension preheater, the hollow preheating chamber having the upper end thereof in gas and material flow communication with the upper end of the lowermost of the cyclone means, the lower end of the hollow preheating chamber being in gaseous flow communication with the feed end housing of the rotary kiln, a first particulate material delivery pipe connecting the lower portion of the lowermost cyclone means to the interior of the hollow preheating chamber intermediate the height of the preheating chamber, and a second particulate material delivery pipe connecting the lower portion of the lowermost cyclone means directly to the interior of the feed end housing of the kiln.

Suspension preheater

Variable dual orifices in the restricted portion of the flue between the kiln and the preheater provides a controlled bypass of 0 to 100% of the kiln gases around the preheater and prevents short circuiting of process materials from the precalciner and mixing chamber to the kiln and provides a means for adjusting the orifice and system pressures to thereby provide stability of operation and control over the entire range of bypass; positive isolation of kiln gases from preheater gases during 100 percent bypass operation is ensured.

Dual variable orifice for reinforced preheater

An apparatus is disclosed in which a raw material feed delivery pipe is connected to the periphery of a vertical conduit that receives gases from a rotary kiln and conducts such gases upwardly to a location where the gases are divided between a pair of cyclone gas-solids-separator heat exchangers comprising a first stage of raw material preheating. An axially movable and rotatable sleeve is mounted over the discharge end of the pipe, and the sleeve is provided with a terminal nozzle portion curved to discharge raw material at an obtuse included angle to the axis of the delivery pipe. A method is disclosed by which the sleeve is moved along the pipe and rotated relative to the pipe, to change the nozzle discharge location and deflection angle relative to the rising gas stream, until an equal temperature drop of gases in both heat exchangers is achieved and balanced loading thereof is thereby indicated.
