A power supply device for providing uninterrupted power for a period of time is disclosed. The power supply device has a controller and a flywheel device. The flywheel device has a housing that contains a flywheel rotor and a motor/generator rotor. The flywheel rotor and the motor/generator rotor are mounted on a common shaft. An active axial magnetic bearing is located to support the shaft for frictionless rotation. The bearing provides support for the shaft, the flywheel rotor and motor/generator rotor. The axial magnetic bearing is attached to the housing and provides, in combination with the motor/generator rotor, a flux path and magnetic field to exert a magnetic force to lift the motor/generator rotor and the shaft on which it is mounted.

A tooth-brushing device comprising a brushing unit having a pair of counterrotating shafts, with bristles projecting radially outwardly from each shaft. The bristles are arranged in a series of clusters spaced from one another along the length of each shaft. Preferably, the clusters of bristles are spaced apart a distance approximately the width of a tooth. Some of the bristles may be longer than others, bristles of differing diameter may be used, and special flossing units are also disclosed.

A tooth-brushing device comprising a brushing unit provided with rotating brushes, and a dentifrice-carrying cartridge unit. The cartridge unit is attachable to a water faucet and supports an impeller operated by water pressure to rotate the brushes. The cartridge unit also has a passage for conducting water from the faucet to the rotating brushes. The cartridge unit supports a disposable dentifrice tube which is squeezed by the pressure of water from the faucet to force dentifrice from the tube to the brushes.

A waste compacting apparatus includes an elongated waste receiving chamber of rectangular cross section, a size reduction chamber of decreasing rectangular cross section and an elongated outlet snout of rectangular cross section affixed to the smaller end of the size reduction chamber. A compaction ram having a forward-protruding shearing knife is slidably mounted in the waste receiving chamber and is adapted for reciprocating movement between a rearward position that permits waste to be loaded into said elongated waste receiving chamber and a forward position up to the point of size reduction.

A toothbrush having a brushing unit and a dentifrice containing cartridge unit. The cartridge unit is shaped to permit it to be comfortably held in the hand and has a squeezable wall for the purpose of expelling dentifrice from the dentifrice-containing chamber therein. The dentifrice passage extending from the chamber to the brushing unit is normally closed by a valve which opens by the force of the dentifrice when the cartridge is squeezed. A check valve permits air to replace dentifrice that has been expelled from the cartridge chamber. The dentifrice may be introduced directly into the cartridge chamber, or it may be placed in a bag or tube and the dentifrice-containing bag or tube placed in the chamber. The bag or tube may have screw threaded or slip on type openings at one or both ends or one or both ends may be pierced by a needle or the like to allow the dentifrice to be squeezed out.

A waste compacting apparatus includes a compactor housing with a vertically reciprocating ram mounted in its upper portion. A waste inlet is provided in the middle portion of the compactor housing for receiving waste, and the received waste is fed into a removable waste receptacle located in the lower portion of the compacting housing. Waste compaction takes place when the vertically reciprocating ram is driven down into the receptacle in the lower portion of the housing. The waste receptacle is horizontally slidable from a first position within the compactor housing, in which compacting takes place, to a second position outside the housing, during which the receptacle is unloaded. A vertically reciprocating sleeve is mounted within the housing, surrounding the ram, and has a waste inlet aperture in its upper portion. The sleeve extends downward from an upper position, in which the housing waste inlet is blocked by the sleeve, to a lower position, in which the waste inlet of the housing and the waste inlet aperture of the sleeve are aligned to permit waste to enter the sleeve and the lower portion of the sleeve extends into the lower portion of the housing within the removable waste receptacle. In this manner the sleeve protects the receptacle as the ram is extended downward to compact the waste within the receptacle. Both the ram and sleeve may be provided with slidably contacting shearing knives, so that any waste trapped between the ram and sleeve will be sheared off and will not jam the compaction apparatus.

Vertical waste compacting apparatus

A waste disposal system embodies a waste diverter apparatus for receiving waste from a single waste supplying chute and selectably controlling distribution of the waste to a pair of waste outlet chutes. Each of the waste outlet chutes is connected to a waste compactor or other suitable means for waste disposal. The waste diverter apparatus includes a waste diverter housing which has a single waste inlet opening, and a pair of waste outlet openings which connect to the pair of waste outlet chutes. A waste outlet gate is provided for each waste outlet opening, and each gate slides horizontally to open and close its corresponding waste outlet opening. The waste outlet gates are supported in a vee configuration by three parallel horizontal bars; a single lower bar having two slotted tracks to receive the lower edges of both waste outlet gates, and a pair of spaced, horizontal upper support bars, each parallel to the lower bar and each having a single slotted track to receive the upper portion of one waste outlet gate. Each of the waste outlet gates is independently activated by an associated hydraulic driving ram, which is connected to its associated gate by a suitable driving shaft.
