An electrical connector is provided with a first ground contact and a second ground contact. The first ground contact includes a first ground coupling portion and a pair of first ground contact portions extending substantially orthogonal from the first ground coupling portion. The pair of first ground contact portions includes a first upper ground contact portion stepped from a first lower ground contact portion. The second ground contact includes a second ground coupling portion and a pair of second ground contact portions extending substantially orthogonal from the second ground coupling portion. The pair of second ground contact portions includes a second upper ground contact portion stepped from a second lower ground contact portion. The second ground contact is positioned with the first ground contact such that their respective upper or lower ground contact portions are adjacent to each other.

Electrical connector

Connector assembly including a board connector configured to be mounted to a circuit board. The board connector includes a connector housing having a reception slot. The reception slot opens in a vertical direction that is parallel to an elevation axis. The elevation axis is perpendicular to the circuit board when the board connector is mounted thereto. The board connector also includes electrical contacts that are positioned along the reception slot. The electrical contacts are configured to engage corresponding contacts of a module card. The connector assembly also includes a coupling mechanism attached to the board connector. The coupling mechanism includes a support frame that extends away from the board connector along the elevation axis. The coupling mechanism also includes a latch body that is attached to the support frame and faces the reception slot to define a module-receiving space therebetween that is configured to receive the module card.

Connector assembly for electrically coupling a module card to a circuit board

A card edge connector includes a housing having a mating end and a mounting end with a card edge slot configured to receive a circuit card therein. Signal contacts are held by the housing and have mating portions configured to be electrically coupled to corresponding signal pads of the circuit card and tail portions configured to be electrically coupled to a corresponding circuit board. Ground contacts are held by the housing and have tail portions configured to be electrically coupled to the circuit board, bifurcated portions extending from corresponding tail portion, first mating portions extending from corresponding bifurcated portions, and second mating portions extending from corresponding bifurcated portions.

Card edge connector

The cable assembly may include a plug connector, a cable, and a connector. The plug connector may include a housing and a board assembly. The board assembly may include a printed circuit board. The edge of the printed circuit board may be enclosed with a material. The material may be an overmolded plastic or a coating of a material. In order to reduce the crosstalk in the areas where the cable shield is removed, a shielding assembly may be used. The shielding assembly may provide 360 degrees of shielding for the wire pair at the location where the cable shield is removed. The printed circuit board may have a trace layer, a core layer, and a ground plane layer. The ground plane layer may have a portion which is a solid layer and another portion which is a non-solid layer.

A socket connector includes a dielectric housing extending longitudinally between a first end and a second end. The dielectric housing has a slot that extends longitudinally. The slot is configured to receive a circuit card therein. Contacts are held by the dielectric housing and exposed at the slot. The contacts are configured to be electrically connected to the circuit card. The contacts are configured to be terminated to a circuit board. A latch is provided at the first end and is configured to secure the circuit card in the dielectric housing. The latch includes a power conductor. The power conductor is configured to be electrically connected to the circuit card. The power conductor is configured to be terminated to the circuit board to supply power between the circuit board and the circuit card.

A connector, such as an edge card connector, is provided with positive locking ejection latches. The positive locking of the ejection latches ensure that an associated card inserted into the connector will not accidentally be ejected under shock and vibration conditions. To use the ejection latches, a locking member provided in association with the ejections latches must be disabled.

A processor mounted to a circuit board is provided with regulated voltage through lower-inductance circuit board traces by mounting a voltage regulator module for the processor, on the side of the circuit opposite to the processor. Current from the voltage regulator is provided to the processor by way of one or more conductors between the regulator and processor that extend through the circuit board from one side to the other. Inductance attributable to lead length is reduced by locating the voltage regulator close to its load. Circuit board space on the processor side of the circuit board is increased by moving the voltage regulator to the opposite side.

An electrical connector for receiving a daughter card having a plurality of conductive surfaces, the electrical connector has a socket with an elongated slot for receiving the daughter card. The slot has electrical terminals for engaging the plurality of conductive surfaces on the daughter card and for electrically connecting the daughter card to the connector. A shaped tower at, at least one end of the elongated slot having a pair of legs rotatably retains a latch for securing the daughter card to the connector. The latch is rotatable between a first position at which the daughter card is retained within the elongated slot and a second position at which the daughter card is unrestrained. The connector further has an end wall at, at least one distal end of the elongated slot. The end wall has a protrusion protruding towards the centre of the elongated slot, the protrusion prevents the latch being removed from the tower when the latch is in the first position.

A land grid array connector is formed by attaching a reinforcing member to a frame and coating the reinforcing member with an elastomeric compound to form a reinforced, flexible body portion of the connector. Conductive wires are inserted in pairs in an array in the fabric extent. Free ends of the wires extend past the elastomeric compound to provide contacts of the connector. The pairs of wires provide redundancy for the contacts to ensure a reliable connection.

A system for delivering power to an integrated circuit includes a decoupling capacitance located in a connector that is formed as a socket, or frame for the IC. The power delivery system takes the form of a power reservoir that is integrated into a connector, thereby eliminating the need for complex and expensive power traces to be formed in or discrete capacitors mounted on a circuit board to which the IC is connected. The system includes a connector that takes the form of a cover member that fits over the IC and which contains a recess that accommodates a portion of the IC therein. The cover member includes at least a pair of spaced-apart capacitor plates that are disposed therewithin. Electricity is supplied to the plates so that they will become charged as a capacitor and the plates are formed with a plurality of terminals that extend into contact with the IC so that the plates may selectively discharge to the IC and thereby provide it with operating and surge currents.

Power delivery connector for integrated circuits utilizing integrated capacitors

Systems for power delivery, signal transfer, package design, thermal management, and electromagnetic interference ('EMI') control are provided to support an integrated circuit ('IC'). The power delivery system includes a power supply, a voltage regulator module and a decoupling capacitance in the form of discrete and/or integral capacitors. The voltage regulator module and decoupling capacitance are located in a connector that may be formed as a cover, socket or a frame for the IC. The power delivery system delivers power to the IC along top, bottom or sides of the IC. The signal transfer system couples signals from the IC to one or more circuits on a circuit board. The package design system for the IC permits signals and/or power to be coupled to selected sides of the IC at connections outside, flush with, recessed or inside the IC package. The package design system also permits the transferred signals to have different frequencies, such as high and low frequencies, and to utilize different types of signal interfaces, such as galvanic, capacitive or the like. The thermal management system utilizes a heat sink, a fan and/or a heat spreader to dissipate heat generated by the IC and/or voltage regulator module. The EMI control system blocks EMI generated by the IC.
