The engine generator set has an internal combustion engine and an alternator in a main compartment. Two separate cooling air streams independently cool the internal combustion engine and alternator. The independent air streams are then intermixed in the main compartment and used to cool the engine exhaust system and gases. Heat sensitive components are segregated from the heat generating components. Cooling air is drawn over the heat sensitive components maintaining them at nearly ambient temperature.

Enclosed engine generator set

An acoustical enclosure for an engine generator set which can be easily assembled and disassembled, as well as assembled and disassembled in close quarters. The assembly and disassembly can be accomplished without special tools. The enclosure is constructed in a manner to afford a change in size or configuration without a change in tooling. The rail/frame construction allows removal of side, end and top panels thus simplifying maintenance.

Generator sound shield

An apparatus for generating electricity includes an internal combustion engine having a drive shaft connected to an electrical generator. A radiator, through which coolant from the engine circulates, is formed by a six sided enclosure with radiator cores forming three, four or five of the six sides. The radiator has a tank mounted above and connected to the three radiator cores to serve as a coolant plenum and as a collector for air entrapped in the coolant. A fan is mounted either inside or outside the radiator enclosure, adjacent to one of the six sides, and is driven by the engine drive shaft or an electric motor. A muffler for the engine may be located within radiator enclosure and cooled by air flowing therethrough.

Modular radiator for an engine-generator set

A generator powered by an internal combustion engine is fueled from a source of biogas. The biogas flows through a filter which removes hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans and through a coalescer to remove water vapor. A regulator controls the biogas pressure supplied to the fuel intake of the engine carburetor, and acid-neutralizing oil is injected into the engine intake each time the engine is shut down to protect the engine from acidic constituents in the biogas.

The air-fuel mixture produced by a carburetor is controlled by an apparatus that includes a choke valve located in a passage of the carburetor. A solenoid with a moveable plunger rod coupled to move the choke valve between extreme open and closed positions, and having a stop fixed to the plunger rod. A bimetallic element changes shape in response to changes in temperature, wherein below a given temperature the bimetallic element engages the stop thereby restricting movement of the plunger rod and preventing the choke valve from reaching the extreme open position. Above the given temperature the bimetallic element changes shape to avoid engaging the stop thereby allowing the choke valve to reach the extreme open position. A foil electric heater is mounted on a surface of the bimetallic element to match the shape of the element to the desired performance characteristic of the engine.

Thermostatic element for controlling a solenoid operated carburetor choke

A generator powered by an internal combustion engine is fueled from a source of biogas. A pump boosts the pressure of the biogas, and a regulator controls the biogas pressure supplied to the fuel intake of the engine carburetor. Acid-neutralizing oil is injected into the biogas stream at the intake of the pump to protect the engine from corrosion due to acidic constituents in the biogas.

An internal combustion engine has a carburetor for mixing fuel with air entering through an inlet. A heat exchanger is mounted onto the carburetor air inlet so that heat from the heat exchanger is conducted to the carburetor housing. The heat exchanger has a plurality of channels through which air from an air cleaner pass on the way to the carburetor. An electric heating device attached to said heat exchanger and a first thermostat controls the electric heating device to raise the temperature of the heat exchanger when the fuel-air mixture falls below a given temperature. A second thermostat senses the temperature of the heat exchanger and prevents the temperature from exceeding a level at which a user's skin will blister if the exchanger is touched accidentally. In cold operating environments, the heat exchanger assembly raises the temperature of the air above the dew point, thus effectively lowering the relative humidity. The carburetor also is heated so that water vapor in the air will not condense on the surfaces of the carburetor. This prevents accumulation of water which can freeze and affect the operation of the carburetor.

An electric motor comprising a main frame having an en and an interior, a stator supported within the main frame, an end frame supported within the main frame and spaced from the end of the main frame so as to divide the interior of the main frame into a motor compartment containing the stator and an equipment compartment between the end frame and the end of the main frame, a bearing supported by the end frame, a rotor shaft rotatably supported by the bearing, a rotor located radially inwardly of the stator and mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith, a modularized apparatus platform which is located within the equipment compartment, and which includes a generally cup-shaped portion that opens in the direction away from the end frame and that has an inner surface defining a control chamber, an electrical component supported by the platform and located within the control chamber, and a cap which is fixed to the apparatus platform and which closes the control chamber.

A motor-pump unit includes a first mounting leg member at the interconnection of the motor and the pump and an outer multiple releasable outer mounting leg member at the outer end of the motor. The releasable leg member permits mounting with spaced supports under the motor or by removing of the outer leg cantilevered motor. The first leg member has a U-shaped base secured to the pump and extended beneath the motor frame adjacent the pump with circumferential spaced depending legs. An extended outer frame of the motor frame has an end notch in the bottom wall portion and the outer leg member has a mounting plate with an edge recess telescoped into the edge of the notch. An end cap has a projection extended into the opposed recess in the plate. The outer leg member has a single depending leg to define a three point mounting of the motor-pump unit. The outer leg member is removed for a cantilevered support and a closure plate is clamped into the notch to close the opening. The outer leg member is also shown bolted to the outer end of the motor.

Mounting support for motor-pump unit

A rotary motor includes bearing frames fixedly secured with a main round frame. The stator unit is secured directly to the round frame. The bearing frames are shallow cup-shaped metal members having an outer cylindrical flange extending as a continuous member about the circumference of a flat end wall structure. The flange is specially constructed to have a maximum diameter slightly greater than the internal diameter of the round frame, and is pressed into the round frame with the frame located on a precise radial plane through the round frame. A rotary bearing is secured within the end frame for rotatably supporting a rotor unit. The bearing frame is preferably a stamped steel member with the flange having a plurality of small radial projections. The bearing frame is pressed into the round frame using a suitable hydraulic press. The end edge of the round frame is formed as a reference for locating of the bearing frame in the round frame. The pressed frame is welded to the main frame at the projections by resistance welding.

Method of fabricating a dynameoelectric machine

A motor includes a tubular steel frame with a stator unit fixedly mounted therein and spaced from the frame ends. Spaced bearing frames are secured within the tubular frame and support a rotor unit within the stator unit and in the bearing frames. One or both bearing frames are spaced from the tubular frame ends, and define corresponding auxiliary compartments. In a motor pump unit, an end plate closes one end and defines a control compartment. The pump housing closes the opposite end and forms a fan and drip compartment within the frame. The frame has openings in the drip compartment to by-pass pump water leakage from the motor compartment. A fan in the fan compartment provides motor cooling. Motor controls such as power connectors, a centrifugal start switch unit, electronic timers, and the like are mounted within the control compartment to form a self-contained motor. The motor compartment and various auxiliary compartments can be formed within the frame by appropriate securing of the bearing frames and internal walls in the tubular frame. Thus, two and three compartment motors are formed with one or more internal wall structures secured directly to the motor frame.

Multiply compartmented dynamoelectric machine

A frameless motor includes a laminated annular stator core having an internal bore and a winding projecting from the ends. The bore is enlarged in the end laminations with an annular diameter precisely defining the bearing axis. Cup-shaped bearing supports have precisely formed ends complementing the enlarged bore with an axially spaced bearing wall. the rotor is supported in the bearing supports to support and align the rotor with an air gap to create a complete and framelss dynamoelectric machine which can subsequently be assembled to any suitable support or housing. A cup-shaped cylindrical housing with the outer end machined to a stepped recess has an internal diameter substantially corresponding to the inner bore of the stator core and an outer nominal diameter complementing the internal enlarged bore. Alternatively, the cup-shaped bearing support is formed with a cylindrical housing having an end flange which is precisely machined to the bearing opening and the enlarged bore.

A motor includes a round tubular steel frame with a stator unit fixedly mounted therein and spaced from the frame ends. Spaced bearing frames are secured within the round frame and support a rotor unit within the stator unit and in the bearing frames. One or both bearing frames are spaced from the round frame ends, and define corresponding auxiliary compartments. In a motor pump unit, an end plate closes one end and defines a control compartment. The pump housing closes the opposite end and forms a fan and drip compartment within the round frame. The round frame has openings in the drip compartment to by-pass pump water leakage from the motor compartment. A fan in the fan compartment provides motor cooling. Motor controls such as power connectors, a centrifugal start switch unit, electronic timers, and the like are mounted within the control compartment to form a self-contained motor. The motor compartment and various auxiliary compartments can be formed within the frame by appropriate securing of the bearing frames and internal walls in the round frame. Thus, two and three compartment modular motor are formed with one or more internal wall structures secured directly to the round motor frame.

Multiple compartmented dynamoelectric machine

A motor includes a main frame with a stator unit and a rotor unit mounted within the frame. The frame extends axially from one end of the stator unit to form a compartment having an outer cylindrical wall. Power control components within the compartment are interconnected to each other and to the motor windings and incoming power and control cables within the compartment. An end cap closes the compartment. The cap includes a central opening. A door is releasably secured within the opening, with an electronic control module having heat sensitive elements secured to the inner wall of the door. The door is of cast aluminum having an inner mounting plate overlapping the opening and an integral decorative plate extended through the opening. The outer face of the decorative plate is recessed to define a logo or the like and increase the heat dissipation surface. The door and module have abutting inner planar surfaces for transfer of heat from the sensitive elements through the door to the surrounding environment. A second embodiment forms the compartment by a cup-shaped cover having a diameter of the main frame and secured extending axially therefrom. The access door is mounted in an end opening.

Power and control chamber for dynamoelectric machines

A motor includes an enclosed rotor unit closely fitted and secured to a stator core unit and having extended integrated bearing units therein for rotatably supporting of the rotor unit and forming a self-contained frameless motor. The motor unit is rotatably mounted in an outer thin wall tube. The ends of the tube member are closed by bearing members having appropriate annular rotary bearings secured therein with the rotor shaft journaled in the bearings to define a frameless motor. The thin metal is formed of non-magnetic metal and has an outside diameter slightly greater than the inside diameter of the stator core. The tube is press fitted into the stator bore and forms the sole support for the metal tube. The tube is longer than the stator and rotor cores with the bearing end plate secured within each end of the metal tubes. In assembly, the rotor unit with the end bearing plates coupled to the rotor shaft can be preassembled and assembled into the metal tube and press fitted as a unit into the stator core. Alternately, the assembly can be press fitted in place with securement of the end plates and rotor unit with the tube before or after the press fitting.
