A mercury capsule for dispensing mercury into an arc discharge lamp comprises an annealed metal member having a predetermined wall thickness and including a generally tubular main body portion containing a predetermined amount of mercury and a sealed end portion adjacent the main body portion. Means for sealing the end portion includes a flattened, generally planar configuration having at least one sealing constriction formed in the end portion. The sealing constriction has a defined cross-sectional thickness relative to the wall thickness and enables containment of the mercury within the capsule below a predetermined elevated temperature. Preferably, the predetermined cross-sectional thickness of the constriction is less than or equal to about two-thirds of the wall thickness of the metal member.

Mercury dispenser for arc discharge lamps

A mercury capsule for dispensing mercury into an arc discharge lamp comprises a tubular metal member having a main body portion, a sealed end portion immediately adjacent the main body portion and means for sealing the end portion. The sealing means includes a substantially undulating configuration containing a predetermined number of undulations to enable rupture of the mercury capsule at an elevated temperature in accordance with the number of undulations. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mercury capsule is formed from a metal cup having a larger diameter skirted portion and a smaller diameter portion.

A multi-lamp photoflash unit includes a housing member having a plurality of spaced cavities in a back portion and a light transmittable front portion formable to enclose the cavities, a reflector unit having a multiplicity of spaced cavities formed to nest in the cavities of the housing member, and an aperture extending through the reflector unit and housing member to provide venting from the cavities to the exterior of the housing member. Also, the multi-lamp photoflash unit is fabricated by a process which includes the forming of a housing member having a back portion with a plurality of spaced cavities and a foldable light transmitting front portion, a reflector unit having a multiplicity of spaced cavities formed to nest in the cavities of the housing member and an aperture for venting the reflector unit cavities to the exterior of the housing member.

Multi-lamp photoflash unit and fabricating process

A photoflash unit which includes a printed circuit board and a plurality of electrically-activated flashlamps. Each lamp includes a pair of lead-in wires each of which includes a looped portion for being frictionally inserted within an opening in the board to secure the lamp thereto. The looped portions may also be utilized to effect contact with the board's lamp-firing circuitry or separate portions of the wires may be crimped, bent, etc. to provide said contact.

A photoflash unit comprising a plurality of high-voltage type flashlamps mounted on a printed circuit board containing circuitry for sequentially igniting the flashlamps in response to successive high-voltage firing pulses applied thereto. One lead-in wire of each of the flashlamps is connected to a common circuit conductor. An electrically conductive reflector unit is positioned between the lamps and the circuit board. The reflector unit is grounded to the common circuit conductor by means of a dried paste of conductive material disposed at the interface between the reflector and common conductor. In this manner, the reflector unit functions as an electrostatic shield for the circuitry.
