A method for aircraft brake wear optimization includes processes by which the actual instantaneous temperature of brakes can be determined during taxi braking operations. The invention is particularly applicable to carbon disc brakes in aircraft. In the system, the energy absorbed by the carbon disc brakes during taxiing operation is calculated and a conversion made from energy absorbed to disc temperature is made. The system uses less than a full complement of brakes during taxiing such that the brakes actually employed during taxiing are at elevated temperatures, which are characterized by improved brake wear. The system provides substantially instantaneous thermal information, in contrast to the prior art relying upon thermal measurements rather than energy calculations.

Aircraft brake wear optimization

An aircraft brake control system accommodates desired yaw for steering, while substantially eliminating undesired yaw. The system assesses brake command signals from the pilot, signals corresponding to aircraft parameters, and signals based on brake control parameters, and determines therefrom an amount of yaw desired by the pilot. The instantaneous yaw rate is monitored and compared to the desired yaw rate. An error signal corresponding to the difference between instantaneous and actual yaw rates is calculated and that error signal is employed to modify a braking differential between right and left brakes to eliminate or substantially reduce the undesired yaw.

Yaw reduction system and method for aircraft braking

A traffic control system comprises a control unit and a plurality of speakers each configured to function as a microphone and having a DC resistance in the range of 20 to 30 ohms. The control unit monitors the DC resistance of each speaker and communicates malfunctions to a 24 hour emergency dispatch center which contacts repair personnel. The control unit also compares the frequency pattern of a siren to ambient noise at an intersection to distinguish siren sound from ambient noise.

Various embodiments of aircraft brake assembly structures are provided for achieving noise reduction during braking activity. In certain embodiments of the invention, the actual application of force to the pressure plate is regulated such that a different number of actuator pistons are used during low-energy stops than during high-energy stops. In other embodiments of the invention, the pressure plate or endplate is augmented as to surface area in some instances and as to a taper angle in others, again to achieve a desired increase in effective pressure application during low-energy stops. In other embodiments of the invention, the stator and/or rotor disks are characterized by slots to break up the propagation of noise waves.

Aircraft brake assembly structures for reducing noise

An electric aircraft brake control system has a plurality of wheel and brake assemblies, each having a wheel, wheel speed transducer, brake assembly and a brake actuator. Electromechanical control units are uniquely associated with and connected to certain of the wheel and brake assemblies, and each of the electromechanical control units is provided with an antiskid system as an integral portion thereof. Brake data concentrators are provided for receiving data corresponding to various aircraft operational parameters, including brake pedal position, and provide operational signals to the electromechanical control unit as a function thereof. A controller for emergency and park braking is connected to the electromechanical actuator controllers through one of the brake data concentrators to effect emergency braking action on the brake assemblies, such emergency braking action having incident antiskid control. The system allows for a redundency in brake control circuitry and operation, which increases the dispatchability of an associated aircraft by ensuring continued effective operation of the aircraft even in view of a failure of one of the redundant circuits or systems. A reduction in weight is also achieve by reducing lengthy cable runs.

Decentralized electric brake system

The invention provides a razor having a retaining mechanism assembly adapted to receive more than one blade with one of the blades being capable of lateral movement beyond the confines of the retaining mechanism assembly into a straight razor configuration. The retaining mechanism assembly has components for retaining and aligning the blades both within and beyond its confines. The retaining mechanism assembly has a pivotally attached handle to allow ergonomic adjustments to the shaving angle.

The invention provides a razor having a retaining mechanism adapted to receive a blade longer than the mechanism for retaining the blade so that one or both wings of the blade extend past the retaining mechanism to provide a small straight razor. Additionally, the blade is positionable within the retaining mechanism so that its wing can be extended from one or the other side of the retaining mechanism. The retaining mechanism for the blade has a pivotably-attached handle to allow ergonomic adjustment of the shaving angle. The blade and retaining mechanism have associated mechanisms for retaining and aligning the blade in the retaining mechanism.

A belted tire including carcass, which is formed by a plurality of body plies, and tread rubber vulcanized to the plies. A plurality of circumferentially spaced apart wear indicating members are secured to the tire carcass, preferably between two plies, but optionally to any single ply. The wear indicating members extend radially outward from the carcass to a desired wear-indicating position, which may be beyond the base of adjacent tire grooves or at other radial levels. The wear indicating member includes a housing assembly containing a visually distinctive material which is visually perceptible from the color of the tire tread. The housing assembly thermally insulates the visually distinctive material sufficiently during vulcanization of the tire to prevent thermal degradation of the wear-indicating material. Optionally, the housings can be solid metallic pins which also provide a shiny visually perceptible wear-indicating material. As the tread rubber wears down, the visually distinctive wear-indicating material is exposed.

A siren detection system controls the lights at an intersection to direct traffic and permit an emergency vehicle to travel through the intersection unimpeded. The system determines the frequency of the sound emanating from a siren carried by the emergency vehicle by counting pulses that indicate the frequency of the sound, by determining the elapsed time necessary to count a selected number of pulses, and by utilizing the elapsed time and number of pulses counted to determine the frequency of sound emitted by the siren.
