A video session manager and method for enabling, optimizing and managing inter-domain video calling, telepresence and videoconferencing sessions, in exclusive video sessions, or within multi-modal communications sessions. The video session manager and method is operative for receiving and analyzing a communications session request from one or more endpoints (users); determining the viability of a communication session based on one or more attributes of the session; connecting the one or more requesting endpoints to start the session; continuously or periodically monitoring the session for problems with or changes in the session; and altering the parameters of the session in accordance with one or more predetermined policies, if a problem or change is detected, in order to maintain the viability of the session.

Video session manager and method for enabling and managing video calling and telepresence communications sessions across multiple domains

A telepresence conferencing system is disclosed in which scheduling and resource and personnel reservations may be made across various entities (i.e.; domains). Additionally, each location that is part of the telepresence conference may selectively, and independently of the other locations, designate all or selected portions of its media stream be carried over a different network from the one used to setup, control, and reserve resources for the telepresence conference.

Scheduling and resourcing allocation across multiple domains

Methods and apparatus are provided for: obtaining information at an administrative entity concerning one or more voice-over-Internet (VOI) calls gathered at one or more session controllers operatively coupled between one or more packet switched networks and one or more public switched telephone networks; analyzing the information to determine whether any of the calls are inactive; and sending at least one command from the administrative entity to the one or more session controllers that causes the session controllers to drop any VOIP calls that are determined to be inactive.

Methods and apparatus for managing voice over IP telephony

The present invention provides a method for managing a voice call over a packet switched network, in which the voice call is rerouted when voice quality is below a predetermined level. In particular, the voice quality is determined by calculating a parameter representing the voice quality based on information regarding codec, network delay and packet loss. Preferably, R-factor and MOS is calculated based on the information obtained from Cisco CDRs during the call session.
