A method and system for increasing an isolation characteristic of a crossed dipole pair, dual polarized antenna can include a feedback system comprising a feedback element for generating a feedback signal in response to a transmitted RF signal produced by each radiating elements of a crossed dipole pair, dual polarized antenna. The feedback element may improve the isolation characteristic of RF signals between two different polarizations. The dimensions and spacing of the feedback element relative to an antenna may provide for optimal feedback signals. The feedback element can have a length, width, and thickness wherein the length and width are usually larger than the thickness dimension. A fastening mechanism of the inventive feedback system for coupling the feedback element to the antenna can include materials that allow for high speed production of antenna arrays using with the feedback system.

Method and system for increasing the isolation characteristic of a crossed dipole pair dual polarized antenna

A low-cost antenna array and method of manufacturing the array, in a planar form or in a structurally flexible or curved array structure are shown. The antenna array has a plurality of metallic antenna electrical and radiator elements formed on a foam core layer bonded onto a metallic ground layer. The radiator elements preferably are formed on a thin dielectric carrier layer bonded to the foam core layer. The array can include one or more additional dielectric layers, each with a plurality of parasitic radiator elements formed thereon, mounted on top of the electrical elements. Manufacturing the array preferably includes bonding the layers to one another. The electrical and radiator elements are formed, preferably by etching, before the foam core layer is bonded to the ground layer. The additional dielectric layer and the parasitic radiators then are bonded to the already formed electrical elements on the ground layer.

Conformable layered antenna array

A compact antenna system can generate RF radiation fields having increased beamwidths and bandwidths. The antenna system can include one or more patch radiators. The lower patch radiators can be mounted to a printed circuit board that can include a ground plane which defines a plurality of slots. The slots within the ground plane of the printed circuit board can be excited by stubs that are part of the feed network of the printed circuit board. The slots, in turn, can establish RF radiation in a cavity which is disposed adjacent to the ground plane of the printed circuit board and a ground plane of the antenna system.

Aperture Coupled Cavity Backed Patch Antenna

A dual-band antenna suitable for use in a cellular telephone network base station includes two parallel arrays of low-frequency dipole elements disposed on a ground plane, a raised array of high-frequency dipole elements disposed between the two parallel arrays, and at least one beamforming rod disposed between the raised array and the two parallel arrays. The two parallel arrays operatively form symmetric azimuth radiation patterns in a lower range of frequencies. The raised array and the high frequency beamforming rod likewise operatively form symmetric azimuth radiation patterns in a higher range of frequencies. This configuration of dual-band antenna allows reception and transmission of electromagnetic signals in two discrete frequency bands while occupying a compact space.

Linearly-polarized dual-band base-station antenna

A compact antenna system can generate RF radiation fields having increased beamwidths and bandwidths. The antenna system can include one or more patch radiators separated from each other by an air dielectric and by relatively small spacer elements. The lower patch radiators can be mounted to a printed circuit board that can include an RF feed network and a ground plane which defines a plurality of symmetrically, shaped slots. The slots within the ground plane of the printed circuit board can be excited by stubs that are part of the feed network of the printed circuit board. The slots, in turn, can establish a transverse magnetic mode of RF radiation in a cavity which is disposed adjacent to the ground plane of the printed circuit board and a ground plane of the antenna system. The feed network of the printed circuit board can be aligned with portions of the cavity such that the portions of the cavity function as a heat sink for absorbing or receiving thermal energy produced by the feed network.

Method and system for increasing RF bandwidth and beamwidth in a compact volume

Disclosed is a broadband, miniaturized, slow-wave antenna for transmitting and receiving radio frequency (RF) signals. The slow-wave antenna comprises a dielectric substrate with a traveling wave structure mounted on one surface, and a conductive surface member mounted on the opposite surface. The traveling wave structure, for example, is of the broadband planar type such as various types of spirals and includes conductive arms which are coupled to feed lines which are routed through the dielectric substrate and the conductive surface member for connection to a transmitter or receiver. The dielectric substrate is of a predetermined thickness which is, for example, less than 0.04.lambda..sub.1, where .lambda..sub.1 is the free space wavelength of the lowest frequency f.sub.1 of the operating frequency range of the slow-wave antenna. Also, the dielectric constant of the dielectric substrate and the conductivity of the surface member are specified, along with the thickness of the dielectric substrate to ensure that a slow-wave launched in the traveling wave structure is tightly bound to the traveling wave structure, but not so tightly bound as to hinder radiation at a radiation zone of the traveling wave structure, while minimizing any propagation loss. The slow-wave antenna has a reduced phase velocity, which reduces the diameter of the radiation zone and, consequently, reduces the diameter of the slow-wave antenna.
