A computing device for investigating a load is described. The computing device includes a processor and executable instructions stored in memory that is in electronic communication with the processor. The computing device requests load driving data corresponding to a load that is driven by an electronic device. The computing device also receives the load driving data from the electronic device. The computing device further obtains load characterization data.

Systems and methods for investigating a load and obtaining load information

An electronic device for controlling switching circuitry is described. The electronic device includes line voltage measuring circuitry configured to measure a line voltage to produce a line voltage measurement. The electronic device also includes load voltage measuring circuitry configured to measure a load voltage to produce a load voltage measurement. The electronic device further includes a processor coupled to the line voltage measuring circuitry and the load voltage measuring circuitry. The processor is configured to adjust a control signal for a transition of the switching circuitry based on the line voltage measurement and the load voltage measurement to minimize heat generation and electromagnetic interference creation by the switching circuitry.

Systems and methods for controlling switching circuitry

A method for adaptive load control by an electronic device is described. The method includes determining a wiring mode. The method also includes determining a frequency of a power source. The method further includes capturing a voltage waveform. The method additionally includes capturing a current waveform. The method also includes determining a load type of a load based on the voltage waveform and the current waveform. The method further includes determining a power factor based on the voltage waveform, the current waveform and the wiring mode. The method additionally includes operating the load based on the load type, the power factor and the frequency.

Systems and methods for adaptive load control

An electronic device for inductive load switching is described. The electronic device includes a voltage sensor module that monitors a voltage waveform. The electronic device also includes a current sensor module that monitors a current waveform. The electronic device additionally includes a computing module coupled to the voltage sensor module and to the current sensor module that determines a power factor based on the voltage waveform and the current waveform. The electronic device further includes a controller module coupled to the computing module that switches off an inductive load based on the power factor. The electronic device has dimensions for fitting within a wall box.

The method further includes determining the load type based on the voltage zero-cross and the current zero-cross.

An electronic device for managing energy is described. The electronic device includes a voltage sensor module that monitors a voltage waveform. The voltage sensor module includes discrete components. The electronic device includes a current sensor module that monitors a current waveform. The current sensor module includes discrete components. The electronic device is coupled to the voltage sensor module and to the current sensor module. The computing module determines a phase margin based on the voltage waveform and the current waveform. The electronic device includes a control module coupled to the computing module. The control module controls a load based on the voltage waveform, current waveform and phase margin. The control module includes discrete components. The voltage sensor module, the current sensor module, the computing module and the control module are housed within a wall box.

Wall box device for managing energy

A switching device is provided having an air-gap switch for an electrical load. The switching device can include a switch keycap configured for controlling the switching of the electrical load. A faceplate can be configured to surround the switch keycap. In addition, an air-gap actuator can be contained substantially within the switch keycap. The air-gap actuator can be pulled from the switch keycap to short out an electrical connection to the electrical load.

A device and method are provided for detecting and configuring a solid state dimmer when wired in series or parallel with a load powered by an alternating current (AC) input. The device can comprise a microcontroller configured to be powered by the AC input. A zero-cross detector in communication with the microcontroller is capable of detecting when an AC waveform crosses zero and generating a corresponding pulse signal when the AC waveform crosses zero. A pulse analyzer can be included and configured to determine when the zero-cross detector is generating pulses exceeding a pre-determined time length threshold that represents a serial wiring configuration.

Device and method for dimming service loads

A system for remotely controlling an electrical switching device is disclosed. The system includes a mounting fixture configured to be mounted in a wall. An electrical switching device is supported by the mounting fixture. The system also includes a cover configured to cover at least a portion of the mounting fixture. The system further includes a shielding plate configured to have a high electrical conductivity. The shielding plate is mounted proximate to the mounting fixture between the cover and the electrical switching device. The system also includes a directional, non-isotropic radio frequency (RF) antenna sized to fit within the cover and configured to transmit RF frequency signals. The RF antenna is located between the shielding plate and the cover at a predetermined distance from the shielding plate. The predetermined distance is selected to increase the capability of the RF antenna to send and receive the RF signals.

System for remotely controlling an electrical switching device

A personal breathing device for filtering, diffusing, and conditioning air inhaled by a person. The device includes an eyewear frame with an attached nose piece and air-permeable membrane which is positioned to surround the nose and permit normally inhaled volumes of air to pass through the membrane as the air is inhaled, and thereby filter and condition the inhaled air. The device can be conveniently placed on and removed from the face, does not obstruct speech, and is suitable for wearing during a variety of normal daily activities to filter and condition inhaled air. The air permeable membrane can be impregnated with various liquids or other agents to enhance filtering and antimicrobial functions, or to provide cooling, moisturizing, or scenting of the inhaled air. The device can be provided with a detachable air permeable membrane which can be easily replaced as needed.
