An electronic fitness device comprises a first optical transmitter array, a first optical receiver, a second optical receiver, and a processing element. The first optical transmitter array includes first optical transmitter operable to transmit a first optical signal having a first wavelength and a second optical transmitter operable to transmit a second optical signal having a second wavelength. The first optical receiver is operable to receive modulated optical signals and generate a first photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal resulting from the first optical signal and a second PPG signal resulting from the second optical signal. The second optical receiver is operable to receive modulated optical signals and generate a third PPG signal resulting from the first optical signal and a fourth PPG signal resulting from the second optical signal. The processing element is operable to determine cardiac information of the user based on the received PPG signals.

Electronic fitness device with optical cardiac monitoring

A swimming heart rate monitor comprises a strap, a first electrode, a second electrode, a first electrical connector, an electronics module, a second electrical connector, and a water sealing feature. The strap covers a portion of a user's chest. The first and second electrodes are positioned on an inner surface of the strap to contact the user's skin. The electrodes provide an electronic heart signal corresponding to the heartbeat of the user. The first electrical connector is positioned on an outer surface of the strap and is in electronic communication with the first and second electrodes. The electronics module may attach to the strap and process the heart signal. The second electrical connector is accessed on the electronics module and may electrically connect to the first electrical connector. The water sealing feature prevents water from interfering with the connection of the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector.

The system may generally include a receiver operable to receive a signal from an external source, an inertial sensor operable to be coupled with the user and arbitrarily oriented relative to the direction of user motion for generation of a signal corresponding to user motion, and a processing system in communication with the receiver and inertial sensor. The processing system can be operable to utilize the receiver signal to estimate a first parameter corresponding to a first motion parameter type, utilize the inertial sensor signal to estimate a second parameter corresponding to a second motion parameter type, generate a user-specific motion model to correlate the first parameter type and second parameter type using at least the first and second estimated parameters, utilize the inertial sensor signal to estimate a third parameter corresponding to the second parameter type, and utilize the motion model and the third parameter to estimate a fourth parameter corresponding to the first parameter type independent of the receiver signal.

A shoe clip () includes two members () that attach together in positions above and beneath shoe laces (), to grip the shoe laces () between them and position the clip () on the shoe (). A first member () is shaped and sized to slide under one or more laces () of the shoe, without requiring unlacing thereof. A second member () rotatably attaches at one end to the first member and, after insertion of the first member () beneath the laces (), rotates to overlie the first member (). The members then fasten to one another at their free ends (), such that the members grip the laces () between them. The second member supports or is integral with a component that is to be attached to the shoe.

Shoe clip

A device comprised of at least a pair of accelerometers and a tilt sensor mounted in fixed relation to a datum plane defining surface (sole of a shoe) may be used for extracting kinematic variables including linear and rotational acceleration, velocity and position. These variables may be resolved into a selected direction thereby permitting both relative and absolute kinematic quantities to be determined. The acceleration is determined using a small cluster of two mutually perpendicular accelerometers mounted on a shoe. Angular orientation of the foot may be determined by double integration of the foot's angular acceleration (which requires a third accelerometer substantially parallel to one of the two orthogonal accelerometers). The two orthogonal accelerations are then resolved into a net horizontal acceleration or other selected direction which may be integrated to find the foot velocity in the selected direction. The average of the foot velocity corresponds to the subject's gait speed.
