Method for passing photovoltaic current between a subcell formed from a group II-VI semiconductor material and a subcell formed from a group IV semiconductor material

A photovoltaic cell comprises a first subcell formed of a Group IV semiconductor material, a second subcell formed of a Group II-VI semiconductor material, and a tunnel heterojunction interposed between the first and second subcells. A first side of the tunnel heterojunction is formed by a first layer that is adjacent to a top surface of the first subcell. The first layer is of a first conductivity type, is comprised of a highly doped Group IV semiconductor material. The other side of the tunnel heterojunction is formed by a second layer that adjoins the lower surface of the second subcell. The second layer is of a second conductivity type opposite the first conductivity type, and is comprised of a highly doped Group II-VI semiconductor material. The tunnel heterojunction permits photoelectric series current to flow through the subcells.

Tunnel heterojunctions in Group IV/Group II-IV multijunction solar cells

A method of forming a Group II-VI multijunction semiconductor device comprises providing a Group IV substrate, forming a first subcell from a first Group II-VI semiconductor material, forming a second subcell from a second Group II-VI semiconductor material, and removing the substrate. The first subcell is formed over the substrate and has a first bandgap, while the second subcell is formed over the first subcell and has a second bandgap which is smaller than the first bandgap. Additional subcells may be formed over the second subcell with the bandgap of each subcell smaller than that of the preceding subcell and with each subcell preferably separated from the preceding subcell by a tunnel junction. Prior to the removal of the substrate, a support layer is affixed to the last-formed subcell in opposition to the substrate.

MBE growth technique for group II-VI inverted multijunction solar cells

A photovoltaic cell comprises a first subcell formed of a Group IV semiconductor material, a second subcell formed of a Group II-VI semiconductor material, and a tunnel homojunction interposed between the first and second subcells. A first side of the tunnel homojunction is formed by a first layer that is adjacent to a top surface of the first subcell. The first layer is of a first conductivity type and is comprised of a highly doped Group IV semiconductor material. A Group II-VI photovoltaic solar cell comprising at least two and as many as five subcells stacked upon one another. Each subcell has an emitter layer and a base layer, with the base of the first subcell being made of silicon, germanium, or silicon-germanium. The remaining subcells are stacked on top of the first subcell and are ordered such that the band gap gets progressively smaller with each successive subcell. Moreover, the thicknesses of each subcell are optimized so that the current from each subcell is substantially equal to the other subcells in the stack. Examples of suitable Group II-VI semiconductors include CdTe, CdSe, CdSeTe, CdZnTe, CdMgTe, and CdHgTe.

High efficiency multijunction II-VI photovoltaic solar cells

A dental model tray () for use in forming a dental model has a rigid bottom wall () and a relatively thin side wall () extending upwardly from the perimeter of the bottom wall () to form an open-topped cavity which is adapted to receive the dental casting material. The bottom wall () and the side wall () are formed integrally of polymeric material, with the side wall () being joined to or attached to the bottom wall () by a thin membrane-like connector member () that is formed integrally with the perimeter of the bottom wall () and a lower side edge of the side wall (). A system for casting a dental model has first and second, hollow molds that are mounted on first and second mounting members. The mounting members have distal ends that extend into respective molds and proximal ends extending away from the molds. The molds are retained on and firmly held by the mounting members so that the molds can not rotate relative to the mounting members. Dental casting material can be poured into the molds and around the distal ends of the mounting members to form base stones in the molds. The mounting members are attached to connector members that extend from proximal ends of the mounting members. The other ends of the mounting members are pivotally connected to each other so that the molds can move between (i) a first position in which the central, horizontal planes of the molds are parallel and spaced apart from each other with the first mold positioned directly above the second mold, and (ii) a second position in which the first and second molds extend in substantially opposite directions away from each other.

System for casting a dental model

A dental model and articulation system are disclosed. The dental model comprises cast mold material formed around an elongate pin or rod. A longitudinal, tapered pin or rod is embedded in the model during pouring of the casting material. The pin or rod extends longitudinally through the base of the model beneath the teeth impressions of the model. The longitudinal axis of the pin or rod lies in general parallel alignment with the line of teeth in the model. The pin or rod can be removed from the model, and the model can be cut into several sections or dies. These sections or dies can then be reassembled back on the pin or rod in the precise, true relationship that existed in the model prior to the model being cut into sections. The extending ends of the pins or rods can be removably attached to a flexible member such that models of the upper teeth and lower teeth of a person's jaws can be moved in lateral or protrusive movement and back to centric occlusion.
