Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and apparatus for coordinated multi-AP channel access in a wireless network. A wireless AP that obtains a transmission opportunity (TXOP) (a 'coordinator AP') can grant one or more STAs or APs under control of the coordinator AP the use of some of the bandwidth granted by the TXOP. The STAs or APs that are granted the use of the bandwidth are referred to as “coordinated APs.” Thereafter, a coordinator AP or a coordinated AP can create a new basic service set (BSS) of devices for coordinating data transmissions. For example, the coordinated AP may serve as a relay, where the coordinated AP services devices in a new BSS by sending and receiving data with a coordinator AP in a different BSS.

Method and apparatus for coordinated multi-access point channel access in a wireless network

Embodiments of the present invention are drawn to methods and electronic devices capable of performing coordinate spatial reuse for wirelessly transmitting data on a channel in coordination with another wireless AP operating an overlapping BSS using the same wireless channel. The device can perform RSSI measurements and generate Per-RU RSSI reports including the RSSI measurements information for transmission to another wireless AP. The RSSI measurement can be performed by the device based on power levels detected when receiving TB PPDUs transmitted by wireless STAs responsive to trigger frames, for example. Based on the Per-RU RSSI report, a wireless AP can be configured to transmit data to an associated wireless STA without causing significant interference when another AP of the overlapping BSS is also transmitting, and can schedule frames for transmission from associated wireless STAs accordingly.

Apparatus and methods for coordinated spatial reuse in a wireless network

A first access point (AP) receives a second spatial reuse parameter (SRP) related to a second AP from the second AP. The first AP transmits the second SRP to at least a first communication device associated with the first apparatus. The first AP then receives a uplink (UL) transmission from the first communication device with a transmit power of the UL transmission controlled based on the second SRP.

Multi-access point uplink collaboration

An apparatus implemented in a master access point (AP) selects at least one basic service set (BSS) from one or more neighbor BSSs to form a spatial reuse group (SRG). The apparatus then performs coordinated spatial reuse (CSR) in the SRG with a set of overlapping basic service set (OBSS) power detection (PD) parameters.

Multi-access point coordinated spatial reuse protocol and algorithm

Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and device for multi-AP beamforming (e.g., nulling) and spatial reuse to mitigate interference and improve the performance of MAP wireless networks. According to one embodiment, multiple APs agree to collaborate in multi-AP beamforming, transmissions of received PDDUs are measured to determine interference information, the APS generate interference maps, and the APs perform joint and Multi-AP beamforming in a first and second BSS to avoid/mitigate interference of the MAP wireless network. An RTS and CTS frame exchange sequence can be performed prior to Multi-AP beamforming between BSSs using a flag/indicator in the RTS frame to indicate coordinated transmission, or an UL trigger frame can be used to indicate a coordinated UL transmission.

Device and method for multi-access point beamforming in a wireless network

A data unit (e.g., a physical layer convergence procedure (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU)) is detected at a first wireless device of a basic service set (BSS). The data unit was sent on a channel from a second wireless device of an overlapping basic service set (OBSS). The data unit is wide-bandwidth, occupying both a primary channel and a secondary channel of the wireless network. The first and second wireless devices are within a same spatial reuse group (SRG). The first wireless device stores the channel bandwidth of the data unit and a receive duration time of the data unit. During the receive duration time of the data unit, a SRG OBSS power density threshold is applied on the secondary channels that are within the channel bandwidth of the data unit, instead of applying a non-SRG OBSS power density threshold on those secondary channels.

Secondary channel spatial reuse in a wireless network

Multi-antenna communication in a wireless network

Systems and methods of WLAN communication including efficient spatial reuse mechanisms for relay transmissions between a repeater network and non-AP STAs in OFDMA. The non-AP STAs are grouped based on their connectivity with the individual repeaters and the radio coverage regions of the repeaters. Each group is either a non-overlapping group with the constituent non-AP STAs located in a non-overlapping coverage region of a particular repeater, or an overlapping group with the constituent non-AP STAs located in an overlapping coverage region of two or more repeaters. Based on the grouping, certain RUs (or subchannels) are reused for multiple groups without causing inter-group interference, thereby expanding the bandwidths used in the relay operations. RU allocation based on grouping can be used in combination with transmit power adjustment to achieve efficient spatial reuse in OFDMA.

Spatial reuse in WLAN multi-AP network

Mechanisms of CCA status reporting and NAV distribution for coordinated transmissions in a multi-AP WLAN. A coordinator AP may broadcast a RTS frame to a set of coordinated APs, which allow the coordinated APs with a CCA clear status to set a protected period in a CST frame to silence the associated non-AP STAs. The coordinator AP also polls the coordinated APs to have them individually report their CCA statuses as well as additional information used for transmission coordination. In some embodiments, a status report from a coordinated AP may integrate the protected period setting and the CCA clean status indication, and therefore the coordinator AP just needs to poll for such a report without using RTS/CTS exchange. A coordinated AP may set a protected period to end at the complete transmission of a coordination frame. The coordination frame may specify the remaining TXOP duration information.

Mechanisms of status reporting and protected period setting for coordinated transmission in multiple AP system

A method of sounding and feedback with channel quality information and reduced overhead is provided. A receiving station receives a sounding signal transmitted from an access point over multiple sub-channels of a wide channel in a wireless network. The receiving station detects channel quality based on the received sounding signal for each sub-channel. The receiving station then performs channel estimation based on the received sounding signal and thereby determining feedback information. Finally, the receiving station transmits a feedback message to the access point, the feedback message contains NULL feedback information, reduced feedback information, or channel integrity/quality indicators based on the channel quality information for each sub-channel. Based on the feedback message, the access point may repeat the sounding process, narrow the transmission bandwidth, or select only stations who have indicated uncorrupted channel sounding for MU-MMO transmission.

Integrity and quality monitoring and signaling for sounding and reduced feedback

A cooperative multi-band wireless station architecture that enables full duplex operations of wireless stations (STAs). Such an STA includes a WIFI transceiver and one or more additional transceivers. The two transceivers (and the associated channels) operate in mutually exclusive WIFI bands or different types of protocols and therefore can transmit and/or receive simultaneously without signal interference to each other. The multiple transceivers can perform independent clear channel assessment (CCA) and then simultaneously perform signal transmission or reception jointly or independently. In a cooperative multi-band operation, one channel may be used as an independent assistant channel and responsible for supplying assistant information relevant to a transmission opportunity (TXOP) for the other channel (primary channel) to take corresponding actions. Alternatively, coordinated by a cooperative management unit (CMU) in the STA, the multiple channels in the STA may jointly and simultaneously perform data transmission or reception as peers.

Cooperative multi-band operation schemes in wireless local area networks

A method of direction finding (DF) positioning based on a simplified antenna platform format in a wireless communication network is proposed. A receiver receives antenna platform format information of a transmitter having multiple antenna elements. The antenna platform format information comprises an antenna platform format indicator, antenna platform position and orientation information, a number of antenna elements, and switching delay, phase center, and polarization information for each antenna element. The receiver receives a plurality of direction finding sounding signals transmitted from the transmitter via the multiple antenna elements. The receiver performs a DF algorithm based on the plurality of DF sounding signals and the antenna platform format information and thereby estimating a DF solution. Finally, the receiver determines its own location information based on the estimated DF solution.
