A method and computer program product are provided for compressing and, in turn, for estimating the frame structure of time-multiplexed data. The time-multiplexed data may be received without an indication of the frame structure for the time-multiplexed data. As such, the frame structure of the time-multiplexed data may be estimated and the time-multiplexed data may be compressed at least partially in accordance with the estimation of the frame structure. The frame structure may be estimated by representing an estimation of frame structure with a tree structure. The tree structure may include a plurality of leaf nodes associated with a respective estimated signal sequence with a respective sampling rate and interleave location. The tree structure may include a plurality of tree branches with the estimation of the frame structure including at least one of splitting or merging tree branches.

Method and computer program product for compressing time-multiplexed data and for estimating a frame structure of time-multiplexed data

Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided that generate a plurality of code words representative of data to be encoded. The code words may be generated to have first and second portions with each first portion including information that is representative of a predetermined characteristic of an associated second portion and each second portion including information that is representative of a respective portion of the data. A plurality of blocks may also be defined with each block including one or more bitplanes of the second portions of the code words. The plurality of blocks may be sequenced to achieve progressive representations of the encoded content in accordance with schemes to order the data according to priority of content. Content may be provided a level of error protection commiserate with its priority.

Error-resilient entropy coding for partial embedding and fine grain scalability

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for compressing data in a manner that decorrelates a plurality of components of multicomponent data and then encodes data relating to decorrelation of the components. The components may be decorrelated by organizing samples of a component into classes based upon values of samples having corresponding spatial locations in at least one preceding component. In this regard, the organization of samples of a component into classes may include defining classes based upon values of the samples in at least one preceding component. In addition, the method may also define classes based upon the slope of the samples in at least two preceding component.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for compressing data

Techniques are provided for compressing and decompressing image data which may reduce the distortion that may otherwise be created by the compression of data values representative of null posts, overlays or other features that differ from the underlying image. In compression, at least one coefficient generated by a forward wavelet transform may be replaced with respective replacement coefficients. The transformed image data is then subjected to an inverse wavelet transform to generate modified image data in which the data values which differ from the underlying image have been replaced by interpolated or extrapolated values. The modified image data may be compressed in accordance with wavelet-based image compression. Alternatively, wavelet image compression may be applied directly to the coefficients resulting from the modified forward wavelet transform. In decompression, the compressed image data may be decompressed and data values representative of null posts or other features may be replaced with their original values.

Method and computer program product for compressing and decompressing imagery data

The error resilient method and apparatus for encoding data includes an encoder including a code word generator for generating a plurality of code words representative of respective portions of the data. The code word generator encodes data pursuant to split field coding in which each code word includes a prefix field and an associated suffix field. The prefix field includes information representative of a predetermined characteristic of the associated suffix field, such as the predetermined number of characters which form the associated suffix field. In addition, the suffix fields include information representative of at least some of the original data. Consequently, if the prefix field of a code word is decoded correctly, i.e, without the occurrence of bit error, the error resilient method and apparatus can correctly determine the length of the associated suffix field and the range of coefficient values to be represented by the associated suffix field such that the associated suffix field is resilient to errors. In order to increase the probability that the prefix field will be correctly decoded, the method and apparatus protects the prefix and suffix fields of the encoded data to greater and lesser degrees, respectively, such that the data can be more efficiently compressed.
