A method for passivating substrate surfaces by removing surface contaminants. The method can remove impurities and components from the surface of a substrate to prevent corrosion and undesirable chemical activity. The method further provides an optimized surface for the application of protective barrier coatings. The method provides significant cost savings due to increased life of substrate, reduced maintenance, and superior barrier coating performance.

Treatment kit for cleaning substrate surfaces for removal of water and non-water soluble oxides and ionic compounds

Disclosed is a method for improving decontamination in meat, poultry, fish, fruit and vegetable processing using a combination of acid(s) and peroxy compound(s). The method comprises a 'stacked' approach, sequentially adding the acid(s) and peroxy compound(s) to an aqueous stream to provide a point-of-use low-pH antimicrobial composition that is highly effective for decontamination of food products, as well as safer for use in a processing facility.

Synergy of strong acids and peroxy compounds

A composition for improving the heat reflectivity and the heat resistance of a metal substrate. The coating composition comprises a latex resin including acrylic polymers; silica; and a fire retardant including at least one of a phosphated pentaerythritol ammonium salt, an organo-polyphosphate ammonium salt, an ammonium salt, and a Magnesium salt. The silica reflects and resists heat. Additionally, the silica raises the decomposition temperature of the resin by insulating the resin from heat and reflecting heat away from the resin. This, in turn, increases the ability of the composition to maintain its bond to the substrate at high temperatures. As such, the coating remains on the substrate where it reflects and resists heat, i.e., it does not easily brush or rub off after several hours of exposure to high heat. The silica can be rice hull silica.
