A software voting or prediction system iteratively solicits participant preferences between members of a set, with a binary tree built used to minimize the number of iterations required. As each member of the set is considered, it is pairwise-compared with select members represented by nodes already in the binary tree, with iterations beginning at a root node of the tree and continuing to a leaf node. The newly considered member is placed as a new leaf node, and the tree is height-rebalanced as appropriate. Red-black tree coloring and tree rotation rules are optionally used for this purpose. Yes/no preference tallies are kept for each member of the set throughout the tree-building process and are ultimately used for scoring. Height-rebalancing of the tree helps minimize the number of iterations needed to precisely score each member of the set relative to its alternatives.

A magnetic coupling device for communicating continuous rotational or linear motion through a magnetic coupling of magnetic forces communicated from magnets operatively positioned on an oscillation assembly and a rotation assembly in positions sufficiently proximate to form the magnetic coupling. Employed to communicate an output force in a rotational direction from an input linear force communicated from a powered oscillation assembly, the magnetic force of the magnet communicating the force compresses the volume of ellipsoidal-like magnetic fields of the coupling alternately in unlike polar domains, to induce a smooth, blended polar continuity and communicate a continuous 360 degree rotational force to a rotation assembly operatively engaged with the magnetic coupling. The input force may be reversed to induce a continuous linear motion of a reciprocating assembly.

Magnetic drive system and method

A broaching tool for machining a workpiece formed of a parallelogram shaped insert which fits within a slot formed in a body member. The insert has two juxtaposed corners either of which may be oriented at the distal end of the body member to function as a cutting edge. Repositioning of the insert to place either cutting edge in place is provided by flipping it over in its engagement within the slot. The inserts may be provided in a kit of differently configured inserts to yield different cutting widths.

Broaching tool

A machine for applying sauce to a pizza crust rapidly and accurately. The crust is placed on a turntable, is centered by stationary platforms having terraced surfaces, and the turntable raises the crust to beneath a plurality of nozzles. The nozzles are mounted to cylinder blocks in which cylindrical cavities are formed. Pistons are slidably mounted in the cavities, and are drivingly linked to a linear prime mover to be displaced upwardly and downwardly to pump sauce into and out of the cavities. Check valves control the flow of sauce from the source of sauce to the crust through the nozzles. The pistons are selectively linked to the linear prime mover for reducing the area onto which the sauce is dispensed, for accommodating smaller and larger pizza crusts.

Fluent material applicator

A nozzle body defines a first passage for receiving liquid from an ejector pump, and a first orifice extends from the liquid passage to a flat wall surface. The body also defines a second passage for receiving low pressure air which flows radially inwardly within a narrow space or channel defined between the flat wall surface and a parallel spaced disk having a second orifice aligned axially with the first orifice. The low pressure air flowing inwardly within the narrow chamber and between the orifices completely atomizes the liquid flowing outwardly through the orifices and permits high speed on/off pulsation of the liquid flow without the liquid dripping from the body and while minimizing the consumption of air.

Atomizing nozzle for liquids

Mass produced tools particularly useful for forming parts on screw machines and turret lathes. A plurality of identical tool blanks are stacked one upon another in a holder and are located and clamped in positions corresponding to the distance generated by their height and front relief angle thus permitting surfaces of a form to be mass produced upon the blanks while keeping the blanks interchangeable. The blanks are individually finished with required angles, radii, and side relief. These mass produced tools increase the availability and decrease the cost of form tools produced one at a time by previous methods. In addition, since they are identical, these tools are quickly changed in service without resetting or regrinding thus reducing production machine down time.

Motion transmitting systems for machinery and machine tools wherein the combination of rotary and linear movement of a spindle is utilized to perform tasks especially drilling, reaming, tapping, and punching of metal. The tool supporting spindle is longitudinally threaded and powered at a preset, variable, rotary velocity. The spindle threads mesh with a linearly restrained longitudinally threaded member independently powered at a preset, variable, rotary velocity such that dissimilar angular velocities between the spindle and threaded member transmit precisely controlled advancing and retracting movement of the spindle.

A mixing and atomizing nozzle is disclosed which has a first or inner orifice which directs a thin film of gas outwardly and expands the same to supersonic speed for subsequent transition to subsonic speed over a deflector member or mandrel, together with first and second orifices which are positioned adjacent each other and immediately outwardly of the first orifice for applying thin films of first and second liquids for mixing and atomization.

Mixing nozzle

A 'Steam Powered Stove' which burns any suitable fireplace fuel in a standard stove firebox. Directly above the firebox is a water boiler tank. This tank has tube penetration extending into the firebox for increased steam generation efficiency. Steam pressure is directed to a regulator which can readily be adjusted to the desired pressure by turning a long stem handwheel. Steam pressure strikes the blades of a turbine causing fans to rotate. Cold air is drawn by the fans through a heater box and then into the atmosphere. A removable pulley can be attached for driving other equipment. Water level is maintained by an inherent water fill tank. Used steam is exhausted up the vent pipe.

Steam powered stove

An improved cartridge-type pump provides inlets on each side of the pump to increase capacity from a material source disposed at one end of the pump housing. Moving pump gears are removed from a pump body to a lower end thereof and wear plates and gear ring define, in combination with a surrounding pump housing, upper and lower inlets of high volume capacity, respectively communicating between the material source at one end of the pump and both inlets of the pump. Increased intake to the upper inlet is provided, without internal machining of inlet ports in the lower end plate or the gear plate, and even though the gear plate is partially disposed in the housing sleeve between the upper inlet and the material source.

Pump

A hot melt pumping and dispensing apparatus for heating and pumping a heat liquefiable product from a barrel includes a platen movable into the barrel and having a plurality non-perforated, sector-shaped cast heater segments, each provided with an electric heater, arranged in a circle on the lower face of the platen and having inner ends defining a central space at a common apex thereof. The segments are spaced from each other to define narrow radial passageways between adjacent segments opening into the central space for delivery of liquefied product thereinto. A cartridge-type pump carried by the platen communicates with the central space. The lower face of each heater segment is provided with depending heat conducting cylindrical projections which extend in advance of the segments into the product in the barrel to preheat and soften the product. The segments may each have a truncated inner end or may each be pointed and have a truncated upper portion spaced radially outwardly of the point for defining the central space.

The 'Fireplace Heater Unit' conveys fireplace heat to the atmosphere through the means of hot water and steam. Steam pressure build-up is controlled by a regulator that releases steam through a nozzle at the proper pressure. This controlled steam is put to work turning a simple turbine which transmits to a fan (blower) and a pulley.

A dispenser, such as for a hot melt material, incorporates a platen which is movable into a container of material to be dispensed and incorporates a cartridge-type gear pump positioned centrally of the platen. The platen is carried on a support tube and the lower end of the support tube is provided with an opening through which the cartridge gear pump may be inserted or removed from the platen without the necessity of otherwise disturbing the platen.

A liquid sampling device which may be lowered by a cord into a pool of fluid to sample the fluid at a particular depth includes a housing for holding a sample bottle to be filled with fluid. A remotely operable valve means prevents the sample bottle from being filled until the cord is abruptly jerked. After the bottle is filled, an automatically closing valve means seals the bottle and prevents contamination of the fluid sample by fluid at other levels as the sampling device is raised from the pool of fluid.
