Laboratory ventilation is integrated. The HVAC room controller requests changes in the exhaust set point of one or more fume hoods. By allowing the fume hoods to respond to such HVAC requests, the fume hood exhaust may be turned down to a point below the highest level that could be needed. The request may be used to turn the fume hood exhaust back up, so greater energy savings may be possible in non-peak demand operation of the HVAC system.

Laboratory ventilation integration

For air distribution or extraction, fan speed is controlled using modeling to account for venturi air valves. A minimum pressure for each venturi air valve is incorporated into the model. The pressure losses for various duct airpaths to terminal units is calculated based, in part, on the minimum pressure of any venturi valve. The fan set point or operation is established based on the highest needed pressure in the various airpaths connected with the fan.

Minimization of fan power in air distribution or extraction

Rather than complex modeling or time consuming repetitive measuring for optimizing an HVAC system, a slope or change in energy use as a function of a change in a variable (e.g., temperature or humidity) is used to adjust the variable. In an HVAC system, the temperature or humidity of supplied air from the AHU is set based on the derived slope. The energy usage to heat and/or cool supplied air at the terminal units is balanced with the energy usage to heat and/or cool the air to be supplied by the AHU. The slope of the total energy usage may be indicated by a sum of flow rates.

A pressurization control system configured to regulate air pressure with a space includes an air supply source fluidly coupled to a damper, a room controller configured to provide a control signal to the damper. The room controller includes a flow controller configured to generate a flow feedback signal, and a pressure controller configured to generate a pressure feedback signal, wherein the room controller is configured to receive flow and pressure feedback signals and generate the control signal based on one or more of the received flow and pressure feedback signals.

A pressurization control system configured to regulate air pressure within a space includes a first damper fluidly coupled to an air supply, the first damper configured to control delivery of an air flow, and a second damper having an operating range, the second damper fluidly coupled to the air supply and the first damper, the second damper configured to supplement delivery of the air flow. The pressurization control system further includes a room controller configured to provide a control signal to the first and second dampers, wherein the control signal drives the first damper to direct the air flow towards the operating range, and wherein the control signal drives the second damper to direct the air flow towards a set point.

An environmental control device is disclosed and includes a temperature sensor, an audio module, an input/out module operatively connected to an environmental system, a memory module, and a processor in communication with the temperature sensor, the audio module, and the memory. The memory stores a control routine comprising processor executable instructions and an audio file associated with a predefined event related to the environmental system. The processor executable instructions are configured to receive a current state signal corresponding to one of a temperature sensor signal from the temperature sensor and an environmental system output signal from the input/output module, determine whether the current state signal corresponds to the predefined event, and generate, via the audio module, an audible signal based on the audio file in response to determining that the current state signal corresponds to the predefined event.

A tool is provided for use when replacing devices in an automatically controlled distributed processing system. In one embodiment a network management tool reestablishes all or a portion of the logical connections formerly provided to a bound node where a replacement device is or will be located. The network management tool compares data associated with the logical connections of the bound node and data associated with the logical connections for the replacement device to determine proper logical connection. The network management tool identifies network variables associated with the bound node that are not associated with the replacement device and deletes those network variables from other devices on the network if the network variable is not useful in the network after the replacement device is bound.

A controller with configurable connections between data processing components that is optimized to provide a particular function such as temperature control is provided. In one embodiment, the controller includes a number of configurable inputs and outputs that may be used with digital and/or analog signals. The controller includes a data processor with a plurality of data processing components including a first and a second loop control function. The inputs and outputs which are configurable to the loop control functions are defined as a set of allowed inputs and outputs for each of the loop control functions. The set of allowed inputs and outputs for the first loop control function is a subset of the set of allowed inputs and outputs for the second loop control function.

A system and method generates test vectors and a corresponding test program to manipulate terminal units in a building system so pressure and flow measurements correspond to independent modeling equations. The pressure and flow responses of the building system to the test program manipulation may be used to compute loss coefficients for the modeling equations. The modeling equations may then be updated with the computed loss coefficients so a building simulation may be performed. The simulated static pressure response of the modeling equations may be compared to measured static pressures to evaluate the sufficiency of the modeling equations.
