Thermoplastic elastomers having improved processability are prepared by incorporating one or more organic sulfate or sulfonate salts into blends of thermoplastic polymers and olefinic rubber and melt processing the mixture. The rubber component of the mixture is preferably at least partially cured.

Thermoplastic elastomer compositions having improved processing properties

Melt processed linear polyethylenes which may optionally contain an elastomer, are shown to exhibit improved processability through the addition of certain surfactants. Among the melt processing parameters improved are reduced head pressure, reduced torque, reduced motor load, reduced or eliminated melt fracture, or combinations of these parameters. The surfactants can be chosen from a non-aromatic alkyl sulfonate or sulfate salt wherein a cation of the salt is selected from the group consisting of Na, K, Li, and other alkali cations and quaternary ammonium cations, said surfactant being essentially free of halogens.

Method of processing polyethylene and polyethylene/elastomer blends

Method of processing polyethylene

The present invention relates to a latex comprising water and a layered material intercalated with a polymer. The invention also relates to a nanocomposite material comprising a layered material intercalated with a polymer. The latex can be produced by forming a dispersion of layered material in water, adding surfactant, polymerizable monomer or monomers, and a polymerization initiator to the mixture and then polymerizing the monomer to form a latex. The latex can also be formed from preformed polymers. Composite materials formed from latexes produced by either method have improved mechanical properties and reduced air permeability.

Nanocomposite materials (LAW392)

An elastomeric material nanocomposite having sufficiently low air permeability to be useful as a tire inner liner among other things, can be prepared by dispersing a layered clay material into the elastomer in the form of packets having an average thickness in the range of about 100 .ANG. to about 1400 .ANG.. Accordingly, the present invention provides in one embodiment, a novel composite composition, and in another embodiment, a novel tire inner liner composition.

Tactoidal elastomer nanocomposites

In one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a composition comprising a major amount of an ethylene alpha olefin copolymer and a minor amount of a lower molecular weight ethylene alpha olefin or a neutralized sulfonated ethylene alpha olefin.
