A method of diluting one or more exhaust gases of a gas turbine engine system includes a number of steps. The gas turbine engine system includes a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine. The method includes determining if fuel is flowing to the combustor of the gas turbine engine system, detecting a flameout condition within the combustor, and releasing a dilution gas from one or more storage containers downstream of the turbine as a function of the detected the flameout condition.

Systems and methods for controlling an exhaust system

A system for detecting and responding to a flameout condition in a gas turbine engine includes a probe, a spectral data receiver unit, and a flameout relay. The probe detects a radiation from a gaseous content resulting from a combustion reaction within the gas turbine engine. The spectral data receiver unit processes a signal associated with the radiation for four different wavebands and deduces four different current signals. The flameout relay is triggered to move fueling valves to a shutdown state to halt fuel supply into the gas turbine engine based on at least one of: one or more of the four different current signals meet a predefined condition, or a turbine rotor inlet temperature (TRIT) derived or calculated from the four different current signals is below a temperature threshold or a rate of drop of the TRIT is below a rate threshold.

System and method for detecting and responding to flameout conditions in gas turbine engines

A system includes a compressor. The compressor has a center body and an end cap coupled to the center body at a connection interface. The system also includes a sealing system. The sealing system includes an annular duct circumferentially extending along a connection interface between the center body and the end cap. The sealing system also includes a conduit coupled to the annular duct. The system further includes a vacuum source in fluid communication with the annular duct via the conduit. In an operational state of the vacuum source, the vacuum source is configured to generate a vacuum in the annular duct to direct gases leaking through the connection interface in the annular duct.
