This invention relates generally to films made from crystalline polypropylene polymers. Specifically, this invention relates to films comprising crystalline polypropylene polymer compositions containing both propylene homopolymers and propylene copolymers. The compositions are prepared using metallocene catalyst systems comprising at least two metallocenes in a polymerization process that involves the sequential or parallel polymerization of propylene homopolymers and copolymers using propylene with a small amount of comonomer, preferably ethylene. The resulting polymers are excellent for use in the production of biaxially oriented films. Films prepared with these propylene polymers have a significantly broader processability range and can be evenly stretched at lower temperature compared to films prepared from traditional polypropylene polymers.

Oriented films from improved propylene polymers

This invention relates generally to crystalline polypropylene polymers and methods for their production. Specifically, this invention relates to crystalline polypropylene polymer compositions comprising both propylene homopolymers and propylene copolymers. The present invention provides a method for substantially continuously polymerizing olefins comprising: introducing into a first reaction zone a fresh olefin polymerization catalyst; contacting said fresh olefin polymerization catalyst in said first reaction zone with a first vent mixture at a first feed rate and under conditions sufficient to form and avoid melting a polyolefin, wherein first vent mixture comprises unreacted olefins and a diluent vented from a second reaction zone; withdrawing a vent product of unreacted olefins and diluent from said first reaction zone; withdrawing from said first reaction zone a first product mixture comprising said catalyst and said polyolefin; passing said first product mixture to said second reaction zone; contacting said first product mixture in said second reaction zone with a second vent mixture at a second feed rate and under conditions sufficient to form and avoid melting said polyolefin, wherein said second vent mixture comprises a material selected from the group consisting of a fresh feed and a mixture comprising unreacted olefins and diluent from a third reaction zone; and, withdrawing from said second reaction zone a second product mixture comprising said catalyst and said polyolefin.

High barrier propylene compositions and their use in packaging

Propylene homopolymers and copolymers formed by metallocene catalyst system exhibit generally lower melting behavior than previous propylene polymers. This lower melting behavior will be of use in the fabrication and use of fibers and fabrics that depend upon either lower melting behavior in general or upon a melting point differential between two fabrics or fibers to achieve bonding. Such fibers are, for instance, chenille or tufted cord, core and sheath. Fabrics such as spunbonded and meltblown, when combined in SM or SMS fabrics will show bonding at lower temperatures with fewer pinholes. Such fabrics may also be bonded by adhesives such as hot melt, water based and extruded polyolefins. Combinations of Ziegler-Natta catalyzed and metallocene catalyzed polymers are contemplated.

Fibers and fabrics incorporating lower melting propylene polymers

A thermoplastic polymer composition incorporating at least about 50 wt % polypropylene, at least about 20 wt % of an elastomer such as EP rubber and at least about 4 wt % plastomer. The plastomer is preferably a single site catalyzed ethylene based copolymer having a density less than about 0.915. By adjusting the amount of the plastomer in the composition, considerable control is secured over post-mold shrinkage of components produced through injection molding operations utilizing the composition. The composition can be prepared as a reactor blend or a melt blend. The composition is particularly useful in producing large components such as bumpers and exterior trim fascia for automobiles.
