A fuel injector arrangement for a turbine engine is disclosed. The fuel injector arrangement may have a combustion chamber, a plenum, an injector, and a premixing chamber configured to receive the injector. The premixing chamber may be at least partially disposed within the plenum and open to the combustion chamber. The premixing chamber may have at least one passageway configured to allow air from the plenum to enter and mix with fuel from the injector to form an air/fuel mixture within the premixing chamber, and a porous annular wall configured to allow air from the plenum to enter and create a lean boundary layer at the porous annular wall.

A machine includes a heat exchanger for an engine having a heat exchanger core and a filtration system. The filtration system includes a flexible filter sheet coupled with at least one take-up roller and a filter cleaner adapted to clean the filter via compressed air. A method of operating a machine cooling system includes rotating a rotatable drive element coupled with a filter, and cleaning the filter by directing compressed air therethrough.

A heat exchanger is disclosed. The heat exchanger may have an inlet configured to receive a first fluid and an outlet configured to discharge the first fluid. The heat exchanger may further have at least one passageway configured to conduct the first fluid from the inlet to the outlet. The at least one passageway may be composed of a graphite foam and a layer of graphite material on the exterior of the graphite foam. The layer of graphite material may form at least a partial barrier between the first fluid and a second fluid external to the at least one passageway.

A turbine engine is disclosed. The turbine engine may have a first compressor configured to pressurize inlet air, and a second compressor configured to further pressurize the inlet air. The turbine engine may also have a cooling circuit fluidly located to cool the inlet air after the inlet air is pressurized by the first compressor and before the inlet air is further pressurized by the second compressor. The cooling circuit may have a first heat exchanger configured to transfer heat from the inlet air to a fuel of the engine, and a second heat exchanger configured to transfer heat from exhaust of the engine to the fuel of the engine.

A combustor for a turbine engine is disclosed. The combustor may have a can-like dilution zone, a primary combustion zone, and a secondary combustion zone. The primary combustion zone may be disposed radially about the can-like dilution zone. The secondary combustion zone may be disposed at an end of the can-like dilution zone to fluidly communicate the primary combustion zone and the can-like dilution zone.

A machine is provided having an engine system wherein at least one engine system component with an acoustic reflective surface is surrounded by a jacket configured to absorb sound from at least one sound producing device of the engine system. The jacket includes a sound absorbing material such as fibrous thermal insulation and an acoustic permeable covering between the acoustic reflective surface and the engine compartment of the machine. The acoustic permeable covering of the jacket may comprise a micro-perforated skin, whereby acoustic energy from the at least one sound producing device of the engine system can enter a volume defined by the jacket wherein it is absorbed by the sound absorbing material. A method of operating an engine system includes dissipating engine sound within a jacket surrounding an engine system component, the jacket including an acoustic permeable covering and a sound absorbing material positioned within the covering. An exhaust aftertreatment element may by thermally insulated with the jacket.

A turbine system is provided including a plurality of gas turbine engines, each having a compressor section for producing compressed air, a combustor section, and a turbine section yielding hot exhaust gas. A single, common recuperator section is shared by and operatively associated with the plurality of gas turbine engines. A first flow path within the single, common recuperator section is configured to receive compressed air produced by the compressor section of each gas turbine engine. A second flow path, separated from the first flow path and within the single, common recuperator section is configured to receive hot exhaust gases yielded by the turbine section of each gas turbine engine.

The heat exchanger including at least one carbon foam block for cooling exhaust gas with cooling air. A thermoelectric heat exchange module includes a first substrate including a heat receptive side and a heat donative side and a series of undulatory pleats. The module may also include a thermoelectric material layer having a ZT value of 1.0 or more disposed on at least one of the heat receptive side and the heat donative side, and an electrical contact may be in electrical communication with the thermoelectric material layer.

Combustion air for use in an engine is normally compressed by a compressor which adds heat during the process of increasing the density of the combustion air. To decrease the heat content of the combustion air, an aftercooler is used. When compressing combustion air to a higher density, the combustion air is compressed by a first compressor section to a first preestablished pressure and temperature and by a second compressor section to a second preestablished pressure and temperature. To decrease the heat content of the highly compressed dense combustion air, a first aftercooler having an air to liquid configuration is used and a second aftercooler having an air to air configuration is used.

Cooling of engine combustion air

A reciprocating internal combustion engine used a crankshaft to develop rotating motion. A rotary pulse detonation engine can be adapted to rotate a shaft. A combustor portion of the rotary pulse detonation engine is spaced from an axis of the shaft a preestablished distance therebetween in a mass member. An intake portion and an exhaust portion of the combustor portion is positioned in a parameter of the mass member. A combustion portion of the combustor portion is interposed the intake portion and the exhaust portion. The combustion portion has a frustoconical first position which converges to form a deflagration wave and progresses into a detonation. The deflagration to detonation transition occurs in the transition region. A combustible fuel and air mixture is combusted in the combustor portion creating a high speed jet exiting the exhaust portion and rotating the shaft.

Rotary pulse detonation engine

A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine, is provided with a turbine including a rotatable turbine shaft, a turbine wheel carried by the turbine shaft, and a drive gear carried by the turbine shaft. A first compressor includes a rotatable first compressor shaft, a first compressor wheel carried by the first compressor shaft, and a first driven gear carried by the first compressor shaft. The first driven gear is operatively engaged with and driven by the drive gear. The turbocharger has a compact arrangement, and allows for optimization of compressor wheel operating speeds, including in a turbocharger having multiple compression stages.

A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine is provided with a compressor having an inlet receiving combustion gas and an outlet; and a turbine drivingly coupled to the compressor. The turbine has a shaft and a turbine wheel disposed on the shaft. The turbine wheel has a plurality of turbine blades and an edge defining a plurality of scallops. Scallop fillers are disposed between the turbine blades. Advantages of a scalloped turbine wheel, resulting from reductions in mass, are achieved without reductions in efficiency normally experienced with scalloped turbine wheels.

A cooling system has an air-to-air or first heat exchanger and a fluid or second heat exchanger mounted remotely from a main radiator for cooling an internal combustion engine. A filter filters a recipient fluid, such as an ambient air, before the recipient fluid passes through the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger. A cooled fluid is conducted to a flow of intake air for the internal combustion engine. A fan causes the recipient fluid to pass through the filter and the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger. The spent recipient fluid is discharged to atmosphere.

A noise suppression louver for an enclosure, in particular, an apparatus for suppressing sound at the openings which allow air to enter or exit an internal combustion engine enclosure. The louver comprises a matrix of intersecting horizontal and vertical passive sound absorptive slats.
