Tetrahydroprotoberbine (THPB) compounds and their use in the treatment of neurological, psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases is provided. The compounds include d-govadine, l-govadine and racemic govadine, as well as d-THPBs of general formula (I). Enantioselective processes for preparing compounds of formula (I), and d- and l-govadine are also provided.(I)

This invention relates to the use of ADNF polypeptides in the treatment of neurotoxicity induced by chemical agents or by disease processes. The ADNF polypeptides include ADNF I and ADNF III (also referred to as ADNP) polypeptides, analogs, subsequences such as NAP and SAL, and D-amino acid versions (either wholly D-amino acid peptides or mixed D- and L-amino acid peptides), and combinations thereof which contain their respective active core sites.

Use of ADNF polypeptides for treating peripheral neurotoxicity

Liposomal formulations having extended circulation time in vivo and increased drug retention are comprised of sphingomyelin and cholesterol and have an acidic intraliposomal pH. The formulations have enhanced stability and thus are used in methods which provide improved drug delivery and more effective treatment. The delivery of ciprofloxacin, and alkaloid drugs, particularly swainsonine, vincristine and vinblastine, is significantly improved.
