A coaxial connector, the coaxial connector interconnectable with a coaxial cable by a process including providing a connector body with a bore; inserting a leading end of the coaxial cable into the bore from a cable end of the connector body, and laser welding between the outer conductor and the connector body from a connector end of the connector body.

Laser weld coaxial connector and interconnection method

A coaxial connector for interconnection with a coaxial cable with a solid outer conductor by laser welding is provided with a monolithic connector body with a bore. A sidewall of the bore is provided with an inward annular projection angled toward a cable end of the bore. A sidewall of the inward annular projection and the sidewall of the bore form an annular laser groove open to a cable end of the bore. The annular laser groove is dimensioned with a taper at a connector end of the laser groove less than a thickness of a leading end of the outer conductor. The taper provides an annular material chamber between the leading end of the outer conductor, when seated in the laser groove, and the connector end of the laser groove.

A stabilizing coupling body assembly for a connector is provided with a monolithic coupling body dimensioned to couple with a cable end of a connector body of the connector. A plurality of grip fingers extends from a cable end of the coupling body, the grip fingers dimensioned for insertion within a bore of a stabilizing body. The stabilizing body is coupled to a cable end of the coupling body. A distal end of the grip fingers is proximate an annular wedge surface of the bore of the stabilizing body. The wedge surface is provided with a taper between a maximum diameter proximate a connector end and a minimum diameter proximate a cable end. The grip fingers are driven radially inward as the stabilizing body is advanced axially towards the coupling body. Methods of manufacture include forming elements of the coupling body assembly via injection molding and/or machining.

An inner contact arrangement for a coaxial cable connector. The inner contact supported coaxially within a connector bore of the connector by a support insulator. A plurality of tines extending from a central portion of the inner contact, the tines may be angled outward from a longitudinal axis of the inner contact and or provided with a shoulder. A bias insulator with a ramp bore, the bias insulator retained within the connector bore and contacting the cable end of the tines.

An annular corrugated solid outer conductor coaxial cable electrical connector with an integral spring finger nut telescopically coupled via threads to the cable end of a body. A nut bore in the spring finger nut dimensioned to receive the outer conductor therethrough. A plurality of spring fingers around the periphery of the interface end of the nut bore, projecting towards the interface end, the spring fingers provided with an inward projecting bead at the interface end. the interface end of the spring fingers initially deflectable into an annular groove open to the interface end between the spring fingers and an outer diameter of the spring finger nut.

A push-on connector interface and associated spring ring adapted for use with, for example, existing standardized threaded female connectors, for example SMA or Type N connectors. A plurality of spring fingers of the male connector body engage the, typically threaded, outer diameter surface of the female connector body. A sleeve within the male connector body may be adapted to extend within a bore of the female connector body. A spring or spring ring located, for example, positioned within a groove or press-fit upon the sleeve has a plurality of deflectable protrusions which deform between the sleeve and an inner diameter surface of the bore and or are biased against the inner diameter surface. The connections formed by the bias of spring fingers and the deformation and or bias of the spring or spring ring creating a reliable mechanical and electrical interconnection between the male and female connector bodies.

Push-on connector interface

An electrical connector having a longitudinal axis with interface and cable ends for coaxial cable having an annular corrugated solid outer conductor. The connector having a body and an interface joined in an interference fit along the longitudinal axis of the connector. A spring finger ring within a bore of the body is rigidly connected to the body. The spring finger ring having a plurality of spring fingers extending towards an connector end; the spring fingers having an inward projecting bead at the connector end. The spring fingers positioned opposite an outer conductor groove open to the cable end, the outer conductor groove proximate the cable end of the interface.

Axial compression electrical connector for annular corrugated coaxial cable

A coaxial connector may be configured with multiple interleaved concentric threads that reduce connector assembly threading requirements. A cable sheath stripping feature may be incorporated into the connector, eliminating the need for a separate sheath stripping tool. Also, over-tightening protection assemblies may be incorporated in the coupling and or rear clamp nuts. The over-tightening protection assemblies utilize first and second interlock surfaces which co-operate to couple the connector body with a rotatable inner coupling sleeve until a predetermined level of torque is applied whereupon complementary protrusions formed on the rings deflect and slip past each other, protecting the connector and or cable from damage due to application of excessive torque and eliminating the need for torque wrenches during connector installation. The first and second interlock surfaces may be formed directly in the coupling nut and inner coupling sleeve or may be separate finger and ramp rings coupled to each.

Coaxial cable connector installable with common tools

A cable-connector system advantageously used with flexible, relatively small diameter coaxial cable and connectors, including a coaxial cable with a foam dielectric surrounding an inner conductor; and a tubular outer conductor surrounding the foam dielectric, the outer conductor being composed of aluminum or aluminum alloy and having helical corrugations; and a connector, having: a connector body having a hollow bore with internal perturbations keyed to the helical corrugations and arranged to retentively receive and secure the connector on the cable when the connector is screwed onto the cable with the corrugations engaging the perturbations; the connector body having a crimp section adapted to be compressed by a connector crimping tool; the crimp section configured such that when crimped, the crimp section deforms inwardly and distorts the cable outer conductor corrugations to prevent relative rotation between the cable and the connector body and interlock the connector and cable.

Low cost, high performance cable-connector system and assembly method

A corrugated coaxial cable connector, field installable with a hand crimp tool has a connector interface coupled to the connector end of a hollow cylindrical body; an inner surface of the body is adapted to thread onto the helical corrugations on the outer conductor of the cable. A plurality of ridges on an outer surface of the body corresponding to an internal threaded section forms a crimp surface. An inner contact located coaxially within the body has a socket contact section at the cable end dimensioned for insertion of the inner conductor of the cable and electrical connection therewith. A body barb located on the outer surface of the body provides an acute surface for heat shrink tubing to seal against.

Crimp connector for corrugated cable

A locking mechanism for a coaxial connector assembly of the type wherein an inner cylindrical connector member of a female connector is adapted for receipt within an outer connector member of a male connector. The locking mechanism is positionable between the male and female connectors and includes one or more locking balls disposed within a sleeve portion of the male connector. The sleeve is of the push-pull variety and incorporates an internal surface for biasing the locking ball or balls into a recess formed in the female connector. When the sleeve is in a locked position, the locking ball or balls captured therein are biased radially inwardly therefrom to urge the male and female connectors into a tighter engagement.

Coaxial connector with spring loaded coupling mechanism

A connector assembly for a coaxial cable having an outer conductor, an inner conductor, and a dielectric spacer between the two conductors. The connector comprises a generally cylindrical outer connector adapted to be mounted on the outer surface of an end portion of the outer conductor and having a hollow extension projecting in a generally axial direction beyond the end of the outer conductor. An electrically conductive contact ring is disposed within the hollow interior of the extension of the outer connector, and the ring is mounted for movement in a generally axial direction within and relative to the outer connector for engaging the end of the outer conductor. A generally cylindrical body member telescopes over the extension of the outer connector, and the body member and the outer connector have cooperating threaded surfaces for joining the two members. The body member includes an internal boss for engaging the contact ring and advancing the ring against the end of the outer conductor to crush an end portion of the outer conductor as the body member is threaded onto the outer connector. An inner connector is mounted within the body member for engaging the inner conductor as the body member is threaded onto the outer connector.
