This disclosure sets out an induction logging tool enclosed in a cylindrical shell between top and bottom located end connected subs of larger diameter. The ends are larger; they define a standoff distance above a specified minimum to enable operation in a well borehole without centralizers.

Integral standoff of induction sondes to minimize correction of borehole

A transmitter for a sonic wall logging tool contains a piston, the plane of the piston being disposed along the longitudinal axis of the tool. The piston moves, in its entirety, transversely with respect to the tool when an alternating current flows in two coils disposed in magnetic fields created by two mangets. Sonic positive pressure waves are created on one side of the piston, and sonic negative pressure waves are created on the other side of the piston. Shear waves are created in the formation, a positive shear wave being created in the formation on one side of the tool, and a negative shear wave being created in the formation on the other side of the tool.

Sonic well logging tool transmitter

Connector assembly for use in a fluid medium comprising a male connector with a cylindrical pin with several axially spaced contact elements, and a female connector with a tubular housing and axially spaced annular contacts secured inside the housing. Seals with a flexible central portion are alternated with the contacts and with the latter define a bore to accommodate the pin. A chamber filled with dielectric liquid is defined within the housing as a rear extension of the bore, the entry of which is closed to external fluid by a sealing member. A free space is left around the flexible portion of each tubular seal, and each of said spaces communicates with the aforementioned chamber. Means are provided by which the pressure increases in the chamber when the pin is inserted. The pressure rise in the spaces around the seals increases the pressure force of the seals against the pin.

Wet electrical connector

Electrical connector assembly comprising a male and a female connector, each having a group of electrical contacts. The bore formed in the female connector to accommodate the male connector is sealed by a slidable shuttle and is filled with a dielectric liquid when the male connector is not inserted. The shuttle is subjected to a force which tends to keep it in sealing position, and is pushed towards the interior of the bore against the action of said force when the male connector is inserted. The shuttle and the end of the male connector are arranged so that the insertion of the latter brings about a positive connection between the two. This connection remains effective during withdrawal of the male connector, until the shuttle reaches its sealing position.

Repeatedly operable electrical wet connector

For conducting wireline operations in a deviated borehole, a dual or two-stage locomotive pulls a wireline cable through both the entire length of a drill string and the entire length of a stinger therein to dock with a tool at the bottom of the stinger. The inner or second-stage locomotive then pulls the stinger out into the borehole by pushing on the bottom end of the stinger to prevent buckling the stinger. The stinger and drill stem can be assembled to virtually any length, without requiring pre-wiring. The risk of buckling upon retracting the stinger back into the drill pipe, by pulling on the cable, is reduced by the use of the special configuration provided by the present invention.
