A carbide cutting tip including a rear surface and a bottom surface for mounting the tip to a cutting tool tooth, a top surface having a pair of peaks separated by a trough, the top surface including a frontward facet and a rearward facet sloped downwardly and rearwardly at a non-zero angle &#x3b1; with respect to the frontward facet, and a front surface having a substantially flat lower portion and a concave upper portion having a shape defined by a segment of an ellipse, the lower portion being disposed substantially perpendicularly to the frontward facet of the top surface, the lower portion and the upper portion joining at a break point located at the apex of the major axis of the ellipse, the major axis of the ellipse being canted frontwardly from the break point at a non-zero angle &#x3b2; with respect to the lower portion of the front surface.

A stump grinding wheel includes a wheel disc, which includes multiple recesses formed about its periphery. A peripheral cutter assembly is disposed in each one of the recesses and is mounted on the wheel disc. Multiple side cutter assemblies are mounted on the wheel disc, and each one includes a first pocket and a second pocket. The first pocket is disposed on one side of the wheel disc and the second pocket is disposed on the other side of the wheel disc, and a wear pad is formed adjacent a selected end of each pocket. A cutting tooth is received in aligned openings formed in the first pocket, the wheel disc, and the second pocket. A nut threadably engages the cutting tooth of the side cutter assembly to secure the tooth to the first and second pockets, and to secure the pockets to the wheel disc.

Stump grinding wheel

A stump grinding disk includes a metallic wheel defining an axis of rotation and including a pair of side surfaces and a circumferential outer edge surface. The outer edge surface includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses. Each recess extends axially completely through the disk. A plurality of side cutting elements are mounted on each side surface. A plurality of outer peripheral cutters are spaced circumferentially apart around the outer edge surface. Wear strips are mounted in respective recesses. Each wear strip includes a metal matrix in which hard particles are disposed. Each wear strip defines a radially inner surface affixed to the wheel, and a radially outer surface arranged substantially flush with adjacent portions of the outer edge surface.

Stump grinding disk and wear strips therefor

A vertical underground stump grinding apparatus having an elongated stump grinding tool rotatable about a vertical axis with cutting blades on the surface and a drilling end rotatably mounted on a vehicle such as a hydraulic excavator, skid steer loader, self propelled vehicle, or tow behind trailer which provide adequate power to rotate the tool and directional support to provide vertical movement into the ground adjacent the stump, transverse movement underground toward and in grinding engagement with the sides of the stump and removal by lifting out of the ground after the stump is ground away.

Vertical underground stump grinding apparatus

A stump grinding mechanism includes a disc having recesses formed in an outer peripheral surface thereof. Peripheral cutting assemblies are mounted in respective recesses. Each cutting assembly includes a holder fixed in the recess, and a cutter tooth mounted in the holder. The cutter tooth includes a shank extending through the holder and secured thereto by a nut. The nut is disposed within a pocket of the holder to be shielded during a cutting operation. The holder includes gauge marks to facilitate a proper angular orienting of the cutting assembly within the recess. Some of the cutter teeth have flat cutter faces optimized for cutting wood fiber, whereas others of the cutter teeth have cutter faces defined by converging surface portions to be optimized for cutting/displacing rocks.

Stump grinding apparatus having a rotatable toothed disc

A vertical underground stump grinding apparatus having an elongated stump grinding tool rotatable about a vertical axis with cutting blades on the surface and a drilling end rotatably mounted on a vehicle such as a hydraulic excavator or skid steer loader which provide adequate power to rotate the tool and directional support to provide vertical movement into the ground adjacent the stump, transverse movement underground toward and in grinding engaged with the sides of the stump and removal by lifting out of the ground after the stump is ground away.

A stump grinding device includes a wheel having an outer peripheral edge in which a plurality of recesses are formed. Disposed in each recess is a plurality of cutting units each including a block affixed to a floor of the recess, and a bit mounted in the block. Each bit includes a hard tip disposed at a front end thereof. The bits of some of the peripheral cutting units are rotatable relative to their respective blocks, with the hard tips thereof being generally pointed. The bits of others of the peripheral cutting units are non-rotatable to their respective blocks, with the hard tips thereof forming elongated cutting edges. The peripheral cutting units are spaced from leading and trailing ends of the respective recesses to provide spaces for the passage of cuttings.

Stump grinding apparatus

A disc cutter is rotatably mounted on a self-contained power unit which is detachably mounted on lift arms of a hydraulic excavator for locating the disc cutter at a position on the opposite side of a stump from the excavator and providing curling movement of the rotating disc cutter through the stump towards the excavator in the line of sight of the operator for discharging the debris away from the operator.

Self contained stump grinder

A stump grinding tool includes a rotary cutting wheel having a pair of side surfaces and an outer peripheral surface. Cutting assemblies are mounted on the cutting wheel, each cutting assembly including first and second pockets disposed on respective side surfaces of the wheel. Each pocket includes a leading through-hole and a trailing through-hole aligned with respective leading end trailing through-holes of the other pocket for receiving a pair of cutting teeth. Each tooth extends through aligned through-holes of the pocket and cutting wheel in mutually opposite directions, wherein cutting elements of the teeth are disposed adjacent respective ones of the side surfaces. Each tooth is fixed by a nut threaded thereon such that each tooth and associated nut functions to clamp both of the first and second pockets against the respective side-surfaces of the cutting wheel.
