Ultra-fine microcrystalline cellulose compositions are disclosed which comprise co-attrited microcrystalline cellulose and a hydrocolloid. The compositions have a mean particle size of less than 10 microns. The compositions are prepared by subjecting a high solids mixture of microcrystalline cellulose and a hydrocolloid to high shear forces in the presence of an anti slip agent preferably an aqueous solution of an inorganic salt. The compositions are especially useful in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic and industrial applications.

Microcrystalline cellulose compositions

The present invention is directed to a homogeneous, thermoreversible gel film comprising a film forming amount of kappa-2 carrageenan, and optionally at least one of a plasticizer, a second film former, a bulking agent, and a pH controlling agent; and processes for the preparation thereof. The present invention is also directed to soft capsules and solid forms containing the gel film, as well as processes for the preparation thereof.

An edible, hardenable coating composition containing microcrystalline cellulose and carrageenan and at least one of a strengthening polymer, a plasticizer, a surface active agent or a combination thereof. The coating composition of the present invention may be applied to pharmaceutical and veterinary solid dosage forms, confectionery, seeds, animal feed, fertilizers, pesticide tablets, and foods and provides an elegant prompt release coating which does not retard the release of active ingredients from the coated substrate.

Edible coating composition

An edible, hardenable coating composition containing microcrystalline cellulose and carrageenan and either a strengthening polymer, a plasticizer or both. A composition comprising: (A) a coprecipitate consisting essentially of: (a) a galactomannan, with (b) a glucomannan; and (B) optionally, a gelling agent admixed with the formed coprecipitate. The inventive compositions are useful as the base for food products such as: a gelled or thickened food, a pourable salad dressing; a liquid food or food additive, a food spread such as a margarine or cheese spread, a water dessert gel, a mayonnaise, a frozen dessert, and the like.
