A device for measuring a position of a panel of an overhead garage door is described. The device has an accelerometer, an atmospheric pressure sensor, and a processor. The accelerometer is attached to the panel and detects a motion or vibration of the panel. The atmospheric pressure sensor triggers a measurement of an ambient atmospheric pressure in response to the detected motion of the panel. A state of the panel is determined based on a combination of the measured ambient atmospheric pressure and the detected motion of the panel.

Device and method to determine height of a panel using elevation determination

A motion sensing necklace comprising includes a pendant attached to lower ends of two lanyards. The pendant includes a help button for a user to generate a signal for help, and a battery to power the motion sensing necklace. A neck strap is attached to upper ends of the first and second lanyards. Two motion sensors are located within opposing ends of the neck strap. A microprocessor located within the neck strap processes signals from the motion sensors to determine whether motion has occurred. A transmitter or transceiver located within the neck strap transmits motion detection signals and alerts generated by the microprocessor.

Motion sensing necklace system

Devices and methods of using a personal emergency reporting system device is described. The personal emergency reporting system (PERS) device wakes up based on timing, manual activation or an accelerometer in the PERS device detecting an abnormal condition. The PERS device measures the orientation and correlate and sends statistics to a console. The PERS device determines whether a predetermined threshold has been met to determine whether a fall event has occurred or whether to enter a more active monitoring state. The PERS device also determines whether it is appropriate to transmit an alarm to a central monitoring station via the console and transmits the alarm if desired.

System and method for activity monitoring and fall detection

A system and method of using a combination of portable devices including wearable devices and tags and fixed devices including plug-in readers that are able to communicate using a short range wireless technology is described. The environment in which the fixed devices are disposed include residential, vehicle and commercial/work areas. The environment is able to detect the presence and absence of particular portable devices, determine whether personalized triggers exist and act accordingly based on information stored in a server or cloud-based storage. The actions in the environment include security, environmental controls, and alert transmission.

A fall detection method determines a fall detection algorithm based on sensor data aggregated from a plurality of fall detection devices. Sensor data is obtained from one of the plurality of fall detection devices not included in the aggregated sensor data. A probable fall event of the obtained sensor data is determined based on the fall detection algorithm. An alarm signal is generated based upon the determination of the probable fall event. A validity of the probable fall event is determined, and the fall detection algorithm is refined using the obtained sensor data and the validity of the probable fall event each time sensor data is obtained from any of the plurality of fall detection devices.

A method for monitoring relative position of a carriage and a recording medium in an inkjet printing system having a roller for advancing the recording medium along a recording medium advance direction, the method includes sending light from a light source toward at least a portion of the roller; receiving reflected light in a two-dimensional sensor mounted on the carriage; sending a signal from the two-dimensional sensor to a controller, wherein the signal indicates the pattern of reflected light received by the two-dimensional sensor; comparing the received signal by the controller to a signal stored in memory; and calculating a shift between the received signal and the signal stored in memory.

A method for measuring dimensions of a stack of medium in a media input location of an imaging system, includes emitting light along a direction that is at a predetermined angle with respect to the normal of the planar surface of the media input location. An array of photosensors are disposed along an array direction that lies in a plane defined by the direction of the light and the normal of the planar surface. The photosensors receive a spatially-varying pattern of light reflected from a surface that is substantially parallel to the planar surface of the media input location to provide corresponding electronic signal data from the photosensor array for subsequent transmission to a printing system controller. The varying electronic signal data is used to provide a measurement of the one or more dimensions corresponding to the stack of medium.

Determining defective resistors in inkjet printers

A system and method of ink jet printing in a printer having more than one print head is disclosed. The printing results in improved image quality by dithering the transition from one print head to the next and by individually adjusting the timing of the firing of each of the print heads. This allows the printer to create a better quality image in instances of horizontal or vertical misalignment of the print heads, without the need for costly and problematic mechanical systems.

Compensation method for overlapping print heads of an ink jet printer

A method of ink jet printing uses only selected nozzles of a print head to reduce the time required to print onto pixel locations as the print head is scanned over the surface of a piece of media. Print carriage speed during printing may thus be increased.
