Apparatus and method to allow retrieval of voice messages deleted from the voice message memory of a voice messaging system. A voice messaging system such as a telephone answering device includes a deleted voice message memory for storing voice messages deleted from the voice message memory. The deleted voice messages stored in the deleted voice message memory are retrievable by the user for review subject to rules for permanent deletion of the deleted voice messages (e.g., after a period of time, when the deleted voice message memory approaches capacity, periodically, etc.).

Supplied with only a telephone number, a device is capable of locating and then forwarding the name and/or address associated with the telephone number. The name or address is forwarded to a near-end device, such as a telephone, using an existing caller identity delivery (&ldquo;CID&rdquo;) data link.

Methods and devices for forwarding identification data

A humidity sensor which utilizes microwave energy to determine a particular humidity value, e.g., a relative humidity, a specific humidity, or a dew point, without the need for delicate moving parts. The microwave humidity sensor requires little if any maintenance over a significantly long operational life, and is capable of highly accurate humidity measurements even at the extremes (e.g., toward 0% relative humidity and toward 100% relative humidity. In the disclosed embodiment, a microwave generator/transmitter is continuously or periodically pulsed to cause a known amount of microwave energy to be propelled through a metal tube structure, e.g., a waveguide tube structure. A microwave detector measures the amount of microwave energy at the other end of the tube structure. A processor measures the temperature of the ambient air within or just outside the tube structure and the pressure, and by measuring the output of the detector determines the amount of microwave energy which was absorbed during the passage through the tube structure. Given the amount of microwave energy absorbed and the temperature and pressure of the ambient air, a value for a desired humidity value is determined using interpolation as necessary from a look-up table containing empirically obtained absorption and temperature/pressure values for given humidity values.

In one embodiment according to the invention, a method is provided for handling a flash-hook signal from a telephone engaged in a first telephone call with a first distant party when a second telephone call with a second distant party is in a hold status. The method includes the steps of placing the first telephone call with the first distant party in the hold status, connecting the second telephone call, and providing a Caller ID indication to the telephone. In an alternative embodiment, a telephone according to the invention includes a flash-hook, and a Caller ID display. The telephone is adapted to display Caller ID data associated with a first call, and to be updated upon connection of a second call, in response to activation of the flash-hook, to display Caller ID data associated with the second call.
