The disclosure pertains to a safety syringe having a retractable needle shield which is capable of being retracted to expose the needle for use; being advanced to a needle shielding position; and, if desired, of being removed from the syringe with the shielded needle safely contained within the retractable needle shield via a frangible segment between the syringe barrel and the needle/needle shield components. The disclosure further pertains to a method of using the safety syringe having a retractable needle shield.

A sharps container for safe storage of used pen needles, pen needle assemblies, syringe needles, syringe needle covers, and combinations thereof having a substantially non-porous housing which includes a receiver which receives and actively conveys external pen needles, pen needle assemblies, syringe needles, syringe needle covers, and combinations thereof into the interior of the housing; an internal storage compartment sized to facilitate the safe storage of a plurality of used pen needles or syringe needles and optional needle covers. The internal storage compartment including a material capable of absorbing and storing fluids which may incidentally be associated with the used pen needles or syringe needles. The receiver for pen needles, pen needle assemblies, syringe needles, syringe needle covers, and combinations thereof is visually distinguished from the surrounding portions of the housing by one or both of having a different color or different color patterning relative to the surrounding housing.

Container for sharp medical waste

The disclosure relates to a multifunctional sharps container having a first dispensing compartment for storing unused sharps and a second compartment for receiving used sharps. The first and second compartments are separated by a generally liquid impermeable partition fixed to the walls of the container. In addition, the first and second compartments are provided with apertures and structures for conveying the sharps, out of and into the compartments respectively, which are functional in at least two orientations of the container.

An illustrative medical dispenser can include a container body having an interior chamber adapted to contain a number of unused medical instruments, and an opening mechanism on the container body for providing access to the contents within the interior chamber. A gripping element on the exterior of the container body can be used to facilitate the removal of a portion of the medical instrument.

The disclosure relates to volumetrically efficient systems for distributing, storing, and dispensing a number of medical or laboratory sharps with subsequent safe disposal of the used sharps. The systems comprise first and second sharps containers configured such that the combined containers, as well as contained sharps, may be shipped in a volume approximately equivalent to the volume of one of the containers.

Low-dosage syringes for use in administering small dosages of medicine are disclosed. An illustrative low-dosage syringe can include an elongate syringe barrel having an interior chamber adapted to receive a supply of fluid, a plunger member slidably disposed within the interior chamber, and a tip member defining an inner lumen in fluid communication with the interior chamber. The configuration of the syringe barrel, including the wall thickness of the barrel relative to the outer diameter and to the length of the barrel, may permit small dosages of medicine to be accurately administered while also allowing the user to easily manipulate the syringe barrel with their fingers.

A sharps container for safe storage of used pen needles comprises a housing within which is rotatably mounted a used pen needle receiving and ejecting means. Used pen needles are inserted into the receiving means. The receiving and ejecting means is rotated; during the rotation, cam follower means connected to the ejecting means engages cam means within the housing to cause the ejection of the used pen needle into the housing.

Sharps container for 'no-touch,' sequential safe storage of used pen needles

A sharps container for only one medical pen needle is configured with an elongated, hollow shield having an axially extending recess at a first end thereof. The recess is sized to receive the outer diameter of a pen needle hub. A cover member, sized for closing off the first end of the shield, is connected to the shield by means facilitating movement of the cover member between (i) a first position adjacent to a side of the shield and (ii) a second position abutting the first end of the shield. Locking means may be used for locking the cover member in the second position. The container has dual utilizations, first as a container for only one used medical pen needle and alternatively as a container for only one unused medical pen needle.
