An electrical connector system includes a first electrical connector having a mounting interface and a mating interface, wherein the mounting interface is configured to electrically connect to an electrical component, and the mating interface is configured to electrically connect to a complementary electrical connector along a forward insertion direction. The electrical connector system further includes a heat sink disposed forward of the first electrical connector, the heat sink defining an engagement surface configured to contact the complementary electrical connector when the first electrical connector is mated with the complementary electrical connector. The heat sink is movably supported in a direction substantially perpendicular with respect to the insertion direction so as to maintain the engagement surface in thermal contact with the complementary electrical connector.

A receptacle for an electrical connector which comprises an elongated insulative housing having parallel lateral walls, parallel end walls and base wall. An interior cavity is formed by those walls, and a longitudinal groove extends between the longitudinal walls from adjacent one of said end walls to the other end wall. At least one conductive contact having a base end and a distal end extends upwardly through the base wall and then in the interior cavity. A wafer having a hardness greater than the base wall is positioned beneath the base wall to enhance dimensional stability of the receptacle in a vertical or other direction perpendicular to the substrate on which the receptacle is mounted.

Receptacle for an electrical connector

A receptacle has a housing that defines a connector-receiving cavity for receiving a connector therein. The housing has a front face and the cavity has a mouth thereof at the front face of the housing. A conductive exterior shield is fitted over the housing and has a pair of opposing side faces, each of which includes a rear edge opposite the mouth of the cavity and a slot at such rear edge. A conductive cavity insertion piece is inserted into the housing and has an interior arm and a pair of wings. The interior arm extends toward the mouth of the cavity and is in communication with the cavity to conductively contact an outer portion of the received connector. The interior arm releasably locks the connector as received within the cavity. Each wing is fitted within a respective slot at the rear edge of a side face of the exterior shield, whereby the wings conductively couple the arm to the exterior shield.

Receptacle with conductive cavity insertion piece inserted thereinto

A receptacle adapted to be mounted on a printed wiring board (PWB) which includes an insulative member supporting a plurality of conductive contacts which conductive contacts engage the PWB and a conductive sheet having a lower wall superimposed on said PWB. An upper wall is superimposed over the insulative member in spaced relation over the lower wall and a pair of side walls perpendicularly interposed between said upper and lower walls to form a plug receiving space. A conductive sensor is positioned adjacent one of said conductive contacts and which contacts one of the conductive contacts when a plug is inserted in the plug receiving space. In an alternate embodiment a convex projection on the plug presses the power contact against the sensor.

Electrical connector with integral sensor device

Disclosed is a device for release of the restrained link arm in a memory card connector. In this device a longitudinally directed force which may result, for example, from the activation of an electrical current in a memory wire causes a rearward edge on a timing bar to separate the link arm from the eject plate to allow the link arm to move to a forward position to eject the card.

Eject activation mechanism for a memory card connector and method of use

An electrical connector having a front retaining shell and a rear housing with aligned longitudinal contact receiving passageways. A molded wafer is positioned between the housing and a circuit board. This wafer has apertures for receiving conductive contacts and the grounding legs on the front shell. A pair of rigid posts project upwardly from the wafer to engage the housing. Another pair of rigid posts project downwardly from the wafer to engage the circuit board. Relative dislocation of the conductive contacts, the grounding legs and the circuit board attachments is thus avoided so as to facilitate robotic placement of the connector.

Electrical connector including means for preventing relative dislocation

Disclosed is a closure device which projects from the side elements of the frame of a memory card connector to provide security for the memory card. The activation of the closure means is coordinated with the movement of the card eject plate so that after the card is inserted the connector cannot readily be tampered with to remove the card.

Card security mechanism for a memory card connector and method of use

A receptacle adapted to be mounted on a printed wiring board (PWB) comprising an insulative member supporting a plurality of conductive contacts which conductive contacts engage said PWB and a conductive sheet having a lower wall superimposed on said PWB and an upper wall superimposed over the insulative member in spaced relation over the lower wall and a pair of side walls perpendicularly interposed between said upper and lower walls to form a plug receiving space between said upper and lower wall and a conductive sensor means which is positioned adjacent one of said conductive contacts and which contacts one of the conductive contacts when a plug is inserted in the plug receiving space.

Receptacle with integral sensor device

Disclosed is a connector from a memory card in which the eject plate bears on the link arm at a first contact position during insertion. During ejectment a separate contact position is engaged. The distance between the first contact position used during insertion and the pivot point of the link arm is greater than the distance between the second contact position and the pivot point of the link arm by a factor of between 3:1 to 6:1. A significant mechanical advantage is therefore realized so that the card may be inserted with little resistance force while ample ejecting force is available.

Memory card connector having improved eject mechanism and method of use

Disclosed is a trigger device for release of the restrained link arm in a memory card connector. In this device a longitudinally directed force which may result, for example, from the activation of an electrical current in a memory wire causes a rotational force transfer device to withdraw a pin from the link arm so that the link arm moves out of its restrained position in response to a longitudinal force provided by a spring connected to the link arm.

An electrical connection assembly for providing a variety of input/output connections between electrical conductors and connectors. An electrical path is established between insulation displacement contacts positioned on a printed circuit board and one or more connectors connected to the board. The insulation displacement contacts are pre-arranged on the board in accordance with the board circuitry to provide a desired input/output arrangement. The conductors are terminated at the insulation displacement contacts on the board in a simple manner without a complex assembly and pre-arrangement of the conductor wires.

Electrical connection assembly

The current invention addresses a device to improve manufacturing of an outer shell modular connector which comprises overmold connectors. Each overmold connector comprises a circuit board to facilitate electrical connections. However, since each overmold connector provides multiple contact surfaces for specific electrical connections, the orientation of each circuit board with respect to the overmold connector is crucial for predetermined electrical connections. The outer shell modular connector in turn encases a number of the overmold connectors. The overmold connectors must be placed in a predetermined position and orientation within the outer shell modular connector so as to achieve desirable electrical connections. The predetermined orientation between the circuit board and the overmold connector is ascertained by a pair of polarization keys of the current invention. Similarly, another pair of the polarization keys ascertains the predetermined orientation between the overmold connector and the outer shell modular connector.
