Approaches herein provided surface mounted devices each configured as a stand-alone component suitable for attachment to a substrate such as a printed circuit board (PCB). In some embodiments, a method includes forming a base housing, coupling an electronic component to the base housing, and forming a cover over the electronic component, wherein the cover is coupled to the base housing. The electronic component may include a fusible link/element extending between terminals, the terminals wrapped around an exterior of base housing. The device may then be coupled to the PCB, for example, by attaching the terminals to an upper surface of the PCB.

A fuse including a housing having upper and lower portions, a plurality of terminal portions disposed in the lower portion, each of said terminal portions having first and second prongs and a gap therebetween, the gap narrowing from a first width adjacent an upper end of said first and second prongs to a second width adjacent a lower end of said first and second prongs, a fusible link disposed in the upper portion of the housing between said plurality of terminal portions, and a partition in said lower portion of said housing, wherein a distance between each of the second prongs and the partition increases from a first end of each of the second prongs proximate the upper portion to a second end of each of the second prongs distal from the upper portion for allowing the second ends to be displaced toward the partition before engaging the partition.

Tuning fork terminal slow blow fuse

A fuse may include a leadframe including a first terminal having a first end and a second end, and a second terminal having a first end and a second end. A bridge may connect the respective second ends of the terminals. The bridge may have one or more protrusions disposed between the terminals and may be extended from the bridge. A base may have first and second apertures, and the first and second terminals may be at least partially disposed into the respective first and second apertures. The base may further include one or more indentations such that respective ends of the one or more protrusions are received in each of the one or more indentations. A plurality of wires may be connected from the first terminal to the second terminal, and each of the protrusions therebetween.

Fuses and methods of forming fuses

An electrical terminal contact may include a first tuning fork terminal extendable along a first axis, and may include a first prong and a second prong both extending from a joined first end to respective distal ends. The first end may have a first curvature transitioning to extend along a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first and second prongs. A second tuning fork terminal may be extendable along the first axis, and a third prong and a fourth prong may both extend from a joined second end to respective distal ends. The second end may have a second curvature transitioning to extend along the second axis substantially perpendicular to the third and fourth prongs. The first curvature of the first end and the second curvature of the second end may offset the respective first and second tuning fork terminals from each other along the second axis.

Offset tuning fork contact terminals and methods of forming thereof

A system for increasing terminal electrical contact may include a first tuning fork terminal extendable on a first plane, and may include a first prong and a second prong both extending from a joined first end to respective distal ends and may form a first gap therebetween. The system may further include a second tuning fork terminal extendable on a second plane and may include a third prong and a fourth prong both extending from a joined second end to respective distal ends and may form a second gap therebetween. The first plane and the second plane may be substantially perpendicular. The distal ends of the first and second prongs may be configured to contact the second end of the second tuning fork, and the distal ends of the third and fourth prongs may be configured to contact the first end of the first tuning fork.

Devices, systems, and methods for increasing terminal electrical contact

A fuse employing a plurality of tuning fork terminal configurations with an improved current capacity within a smaller footprint and a housing design to provide the terminals with insert protection and strain relief.

A convenient, cost-effective method for manufacturing low-current fuse elements. The method may include the steps of stamping a substrate out of a sheet of material and stamping at least one hole in the substrate. The method may further include the steps of bonding a layer of fuse material to a surface of the substrate with a portion of the fuse material covering the hole, stamping a fuse element out of the portion of fuse material covering the hole, and separating an individual fuse from the fuse material and the substrate. A low-current fuse can thereby be obtained using an easily performed stamping process.

A blade fuse includes a first terminal includes an outer edge and an inner edge, the inner edge includes a first portion notched away from the inner edge beneath the first portion; a second terminal includes an outer edge and an inner edge, the inner edge include a second portion notched away from the inner edge beneath the second portion; an element extending from the first portion of the inner edge of the first terminal to the second portion of the inner edge of the second terminal; and a housing covering the element.

Blade fuse

An electric component includes: an insulating housing; a conductive member inserted into the housing until hitting a stop provided by the housing, the conductive member configured to mate with a conductive portion of a device that mates with the electrical component, the mating device thereby applying a force to the conductive portion, the conductive member including a wall, the wall defining a projection that is at least substantially coplanar with the wall; and wherein the housing includes a catch that flexes when the conductive member is inserted into the housing to allow the projection to move past the catch so that the conductive member can hit the stop, at which point the catch unflexes into locking engagement with the projection.
