A nasal delivery device can include a nasal prong and an activation member. The nasal prong can have an opening at a top and bottom portion of the prong to allow for the passage of an aerosolized treatment agent through the nasal prong. The activation member can be positioned on the nasal delivery device at a location that is spaced apart from the subject's oral cavity when the nasal prong is received into the nostril of the subject. The activation member can detect a desired exhalation state of the subject and upon detection of the desired exhalation state, the activation member activates the delivery of the aerosolized treatment agent.

Nasal aerosol delivery system

A nasal delivery device can include air-receiving section that has a first passageway therethrough to allow air to pass through the air-receiving section, a powder-reservoir receiving section sized to receive a powder reservoir, and a powder-delivery section that has a second passageway therethrough to allow aerosolized powder from the powder reservoir to pass through the powder-delivery section. The first passageway can have a first end and a second end, with the first end being further from the powder-reservoir receiving section and the second end being at or near the powder-reservoir receiving area. The second end of the air-receiving section can include a flattened region so that air exiting the air-receiving section has a generally flattened profile.

Nasal dry powder delivery system for vaccines and other treatment agents

A nasal delivery device can include a nasal prong and an activation member. The nasal prong can comprises an opening at a top and bottom portion of the prong to allow for the passage of an aerosolized treatment agent through the nasal prong. The activation member can be positioned on the nasal delivery device at a location that is spaced apart from the subject's oral cavity when the nasal prong is received into the nostril of the subject. The activation member can be configured to detect a desired exhalation state of the subject and upon detection of the desired exhalation state, the activation member activates the delivery of the aerosolized treatment agent.

A modified medical device for delivery of a pharmaceutically active material is described. The present inventors have found that many conventional medical devices contain a metallic or polymeric component that comes into contact with a pharmaceutically active material during use, and that the contact substantially reduce the pharmaceutical effectiveness of the pharmaceutically active material. The invention described herein concerns various modifications to the metallic or polymeric component that are effective to diminish such a substantial reduction in pharmaceutical effectiveness.

Biocompatible medical devices

Methods and systems for aerosol delivery of agents to a patient are described herein. The present system can be used to administer various types of agents, such as a vaccine or other types of pharmaceutical substances. Certain embodiments of the present system utilize an actuator coupled to a disposable aerosolizing element that aerosolizes an agent for delivery to a patient when acted upon by the actuator. The aerosolizing element prevents the agent from contacting the actuator and other non-disposable components of the system so that little or no cleaning or maintenance is required. The present system also can include an aerosolization rate monitor that monitors the rate at which an agent is being aerosolized and provides feedback to the user to ensure that the proper dose is being administered.

Aerosol delivery systems and methods

Aerosol delivery systems and methods for delivering an agent to a patient are described herein. In particular embodiments, an insulated receptacle is connected to a housing and holds a vial of an agent to be delivered to a patient. The vial is located in an inverted position within the receptacle. One or more reusable thermal packs can be located on the inner sides of the receptacle, to maintain a selected temperature surrounding the vial. The agent is administered to a patient by placing a prong into one of the patient's orifices and then activating an aerosol delivery system. Such systems can include jet aerosolization and pneumatic and ultrasonic nebulizers and preferably are portable.

Systems and methods for aerosol delivery of agents

Method and system for delivery of coated implants is provided. One embodiment encompasses a coated implant delivery system. This system includes an implant delivery device having a first end, a second end, and an inner lumen, wherein the first end has a releasable implant retention region with an accessible surface having a coated implant adhesion-resistant treatment. In another embodiment a method of deploying a coated releasable implant at a target site of a vessel using an implant delivery system is provided. This method includes inserting a portion of an implant delivery device having a releasable implant into the vessel, advancing the implant delivery device to the target site, deploying the releasable implant from the delivery device, and withdrawing the inserted portion of the implant delivery device from the vessel. The implant delivery device in this embodiment has a releasable implant retention region with an accessible surface having a coated implant adhesion-resistant treatment and wherein the releasable implant has a first coating that faces the accessible surface of the releasable implant retention region.

Method and system for delivery of coated implants

A vaso-occlusive device is disclosed. The device includes a vaso-occlusive member having a coating disposed thereon. In accordance with one embodiment, the coating comprises a polyacrylic material. In accordance with another embodiment, the coating comprises a polyvinyl alcohol-based material. In accordance with other embodiments, various other materials and coatings are applied to at least a portion of a vaso-occlusive device.

Bioactive components for incorporation with vaso-occlusive members

Apparatus and a method for treating an irregularity in a wall of a vessel of a patient defined by an irregular or afflicted wall portion with adjacent normal wall portions comprises a catheter having a distal end portion for being guided through the vessel to the site of the irregularity. A balloon associated with said distal end portion of the catheter for selective inflating to contact the walls of the vessel urges a stent carried by the distal end portion of the catheter in a constricted condition for passage through the vessel into an expanded form with the stent spanning the afflicted wall portion and contacting the adjacent wall portions. The catheter is formed with lumens for inflating the balloon, for receiving a guidewire for guiding the catheter through the vessel, and for connecting a port in the catheter proximate the afflicted wall portion to enable delivery of a therapeutic agent into the vessel to contact the stent and the irregular wall portion.

Replenishable stent and delivery system

The inventors have found that both the drug dose and drug release profiles are significant factors for the safety and efficacy of drug coated stents. The inventors have identified optimum dosing and release kinetics for drug coated stents. In particular, the inventors have determined dosing and release kinetics that permit the delivery of the lowest effective drug dosage, thus enhancing patient safety and minimizing any side effects from the drug.

Optimized dosing for drug coated stents

A catheter for placement of an in situ implant is provided. This catheter may include a first elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a second elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a first sharpened distal tip disposed at the distal end of the first shaft and a second sharpened distal tip disposed at the distal end of the second shaft. The first shaft and the second shaft may also be secured to one another at the distal end of the first shaft according to the invention. Still further, according to other teachings, the first sharpened distal tip may extend beyond the second sharpened distal tip in a catheter that practices the invention.

Catheter for the delivery of therapeutic agents to tissues

A fluid ejection system () comprising a cartridge (), an ejector () and, optionally, a fill station () for filling the cartridge with a fluid, such as a vaccine. In some embodiments (), the cartridge includes a transfer passageway () for receiving fluid from the fill station. In other embodiments (), the cartridge includes a vented fluid reservoir () offset from an ejection chamber (). In yet other embodiments (), the cartridge includes a vented fluid reservoir chamber () inline with the ejection chamber (). In still other embodiments (), the cartridge includes first and second chambers () initially fluidly sealed from on another by a valve, e.g., either a traveling valve () or a temporarily stationary valve ().

Fluid ejection system

This invention relates generally to medical devices, such as stents, for delivering a biologically active material to a desired location within the body of a patient. In particular, the invention relates generally to a medical device for delivering a biologically active material to a surface of a body lumen. More particularly, the invention is directed to a medical device comprising two opposing end sections, each having a surface, and a middle portion. The middle portion comprises a plurality of struts and the two opposing end sections comprises non-structural elements. The end sections of the surface either (1) contain a greater amount of a biologically active material per unit length of the surface or (2) have a greater capacity per unit length to contain such material than the middle section of the surface by having a greater surface area per unit length of the surface than the middle section or having a greater affinity for the biologically active material per unit length of the surface than the middle section. The struts and the non-structural elements comprise biologically active materials. The invention is also directed to a method for delivering the biologically active material to the body tissue of a patient by inserting this medical device into the body of the patient. Still further, the invention is directed to a method of treating a body lumen surface by preventing or treating restenosis or hyperplasia, using the system of the invention. Still further, the invention is directed to a stent having a sidewall which comprises a middle section, a first end section and a second end section. The stent also comprises a band comprising a biologically active material. The band is connected to the first end section and/or second end section of the stent.

Medical device for delivering biologically active material

The invention features a catheter assembly and methods for delivering a hydrogel-lined stent to a body lumen, and methods for lining a stent with a hydrogel. The assembly includes a catheter which has a balloon at least a portion of which is coated with a hydrogel and an expansible stent mounted on the balloon in a contracted condition for passage with the catheter to a site of a body. Expansion of the balloon lodges the stent in the body with hydrogel coated on the inner surfaces of the stent as a lining.
