A seed meter comprises a plastic casing defining a volumetric compartment and a singling compartment. The casing has three basic parts including the singling side, the volumetric side and the center portion. The basic parts are held together by integrally molded fastening assemblies. A slidable gate is mounted to two channels in the center portion for selectively directing seed into one of the two compartments. A metering drum having a volumetric section located in the volumetric compartment and a singling section located in the singling compartment is rotationally mounted to the casing. The metering drum is also plastic with each section comprising two identical pieces that can be mounted around a drive shaft.

Dual function seed meter

A pneumatic seed on demand delivery system comprises a frame having a main hopper and an individual planting unit. An air pump directs pressurized air to a nozzle located at the base of the main hopper. The seed in the main hopper is taken up by the air stream passing through the nozzle and is directed to an auxiliary hopper located on the planting units. The auxiliary hopper has sidewalls that are provided with an opening into which is inserted a removable screen for venting the interior of the auxiliary hopper. An exterior wall extends outward from the auxiliary hopper to protect the removable screen and is open at the bottom to vent air from the removable screen. The removable screen is trapped in the opening by a removable lid engaging the sidewalls of the auxiliary hopper.

A pneumatic seed meter comprises a housing and a rotatable seed disc. The rotatable seed disc divides the housing into a reduced air pressure side and a seed side. The rotatable seed disc is provided with seed cells to which individual seeds are attracted by an air pressure. A double eliminator is located in the housing on the seed side so that the double eliminator knocks extraneous seeds from the seed cells of the seed disc. The double eliminator is provided with an adjustment knob extending outside the seed side of the housing for adjusting the position of the double eliminator relative to the seed disc. A transparent viewing window is mounted on the seed side of the housing opposite the double eliminator so that adjustment of the double eliminator can be monitored.

A seeding machine having a main seed hopper is in communication with a planting unit by a flexible tube. The planting unit has a horizontal working position and a vertical transport position. The main hopper supplies seed by gravity to the planting unit through the flexible tube. The planting unit comprises a unit hopper and a seed meter. Seed is metered by the seed meter before being discharged to a seed tube and eventually a planting furrow. Seed from the flexible tube passes through the unit hopper to the seed meter. The unit hopper is provided with a baffle. Seed passing through the unit hopper to the seed meter passes beneath the concave surface of the baffle. As the planting unit is pivoted from its horizontal working position to its vertical transport position seed from the seed meter flows over the top of the baffle and is held in the unit hopper. As the planting unit is pivoted back into its horizontal working seed flows back into the seed meter from the unit hopper before seed starts flowing back into the seed meter through the inlet.

A seeding machine having a main seed hopper is in communication with a planting unit by a flexible tube. The planting unit has a horizontal working position and a vertical transport position. The main hopper supplies seed by gravity to the planting unit through the flexible tube. The planting unit is provided with a vacuum seed meter. The seed meter has a seed disc with a vacuum side and a working seed puddle side. An isolator brush, arranged in a chordal manner on the seed puddle side of the seed disc, defines the discharge area of the seed meter. A first brush intersecting the isolator brush extends downwardly and radially inward along the seed disc. The first brush, together with the isolator brush, defines boundaries of a transport seed puddle when the planting unit is pivoted into its vertical transport position. A second brush extends downwardly and radially inward along the seed disc. The first and second brushes define a seed return gap through which seed from the top of the seed meter can be returned to the working seed puddle.

A seed meter is provided with a stationary housing having an inlet for receiving seed and an outlet for dispensing metered seed. A rotatable circular member is located adjacent the stationary housing and forms a seed puddle there between. The circular member is provided with seed receiving cells for transporting individual seeds from the seed puddle to the outlet. An internal seed knockout assembly having a rotatable wheel drives trapped seed from seed receiving cells into the outlet.

A slide idler for a chain drive wherein the idler is provided with easily replaceable and rotatable bushings. The slide idler comprises two elongated members, each elongated member is provided with two inwardly extending polygonal mounting assemblies. Two cylindrical bushings having polygonal apertures corresponding to the polygonal mounting assemblies are mounted to these mounting assemblies and are sandwiched between the elongated members. A split pin is used to hold the slide idler together.

A mechanical seed meter having a stationary housing and a rotatable bowl. The stationary housing is provided with a first axial wall, an outer radial wall and a flexible inner radial wall. The bowl is provided with seed receiving cells that form a second axial wall for trapping singled seeds in the seed trapping area. A flexible and resilient flap maintains the seed in the seed receiving cells. An axially extending brush removes excess seeds from the seed receiving cells as they pass through the seed puddle before entering the seed trapping area. The seed slides along the radial outer wall by centrifugal force until it enters the outlet area from which the outer radial wall becomes part of the outlet and the metered seed is deposited through the outlet to a seed tube. Jammed seed, that is seed trapped in the seed receiving cells, are provided with a downward force by a bump located in the outlet and an upward force by a rotatable wheel located downstream from the outlet.

Mechanical seed meter

A mechanical seed meter having a stationary housing and a rotatable bowl. The stationary housing is provided with an axial inner wall, a radial outer wall and a flexible radial inner wall. The bowl is provided with seed receiving cells that form an axial outer wall for trapping singled seeds in the seed trapping area. A flexible and resilient insert together with an axially extending brush removes excess seeds from the seed receiving cells as they pass through the seed puddle before entering the seed trapping area. The seed slides along the radial outer wall by centrifugal force until it enters the outlet area from which the radial outer wall becomes part of the outlet and the metered seed is deposited through the outlet to a seed tube.

The present invention is directed to a seed meter for corn. The seed meter comprises a stationary casing with two rotatably mounted discs. The casing is provided with a seed receiving zone in communication with a inlet, and a seed discharge zone in communication with an outlet. The casing is also provided with a stationary camming surface. The first disc is provided with a plurality of spring biassed selector pins. Each pin has an engagement surface and a cam follower surface. The cam follower surface engaging the camming surface. The second disc which rotates with and is parallel to the first disc is provided with a plurality of seed cells corresponding to the selector pins. A flexible and resilient membrane covers the seed cells. In operation, the discs are continuously rotated through the seed receiving and discharge zones. As a selector pin is driven towards the corresponding seed cell by the camming surface, the pin traps a single seed in the membrane covered seed cell. The seed is released when the pin is rotated into the discharge zone.

A trash handling apparatus for a self-cleaning rotary screen comprising two cutterbars that extend across the diameter of a circular screen and a comb having a castellated edge is secured to the leading edge of a vacuum chamber. The two cutterbars are provided with outwardly extending ribs that act in concert with notches formed in castellated edge of the comb to scissor large crop material trapped on the rotary screen as it passes the stationary vacuum chamber.
