Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to catalyst compositions including metal chalcogenides, processes for producing such catalyst compositions, processes for enhancing catalytic active sites in such catalyst compositions, and uses of such catalyst compositions in, e.g., processes for producing conversion products. In an aspect, a process for forming a catalyst composition is provided. The process includes introducing an electrolyte material and an amphiphile material to a metal chalcogenide to form the catalyst composition. In another aspect, a catalyst composition is provided. The catalyst composition includes a metal chalcogenide, an electrolyte material, and an amphiphile material. Devices for hydrogen evolution reaction are also provided.

Catalyst compositions including metal chalcogenides, processes for forming the catalyst compositions, and uses thereof

Systems and methods for generating one or more single crystal monolayers from two-dimensional van der Waals crystals are disclosed herein. Example methods include providing a bulk material including a plurality of van der Waals crystal layers, and exfoliating one or more single crystal monolayers of van der Waals crystal from the bulk material by applying a flexible and flat metal tape to a surface of the bulk material. In certain embodiments, the one or more single crystal monolayers can be assembled into an artificial lattice. The present disclosure also provides techniques for manufacturing flexible and flat metal tape for generating one or more single crystal monolayers from two-dimensional van der Waals crystals. The present disclosure also provides compositions for creating a macroscopic artificial lattice. In certain embodiments, the composition can include two or more macroscopic single crystal monolayers adapted from a bulk van der Waals crystal, where the single crystal monolayers are configured for assembly into an artificial lattice based on one or more properties.

Systems and methods for disassembling two-dimensional van der Waals crystals into macroscopic monolayers and reassembling into artificial lattices

Methods, systems, and devices are described for electro-optic tuning. An example device may comprise a first layer comprising a transition metal di-chalcogenide material, a second layer comprising a conductive material, and a third layer comprising a dielectric material. The third layer may be disposed at least partially between the first layer and the second layer. An electrical potential difference applied between the first layer and the second layer may cause a tunable refractive index change in the first layer.

Electro-refractive modulation in photonic structures

This disclosure provides systems and methods for a two-dimensional material-based accelerometer. In one embodiment, an accelerometer comprises a substrate; a membrane suspended over an opening in the substrate to form a suspended membrane, wherein the membrane is composed of a two-dimensional material; a mass structure coupled to the suspended membrane; and wherein the mass structure distorts the suspended membrane about a first axis in response to an applied acceleration providing a first change in a conductance of the suspended membrane so that the applied acceleration along the first axis can be detected.

Two-dimensional material-based accelerometer

A nano-electro-mechanical systems (NEMS) oscillator can include an insulating substrate, a source electrode and a drain electrode, a metal local gate electrode, and a micron-sized, atomically thin graphene resonator. The source electrode and drain electrode can be disposed on the insulating substrate. The metal local gate electrode can be disposed on the insulating substrate. The graphene resonator can be suspended over the metal local gate electrode and define a vacuum gap between the graphene resonator and the metal local gate electrode.

Systems and methods for graphene mechanical oscillators with tunable frequencies

The disclosed subject matter provides a nanoaperture having a bottom surface and a side wall comprising gold. A surface of the side wall is passivated with a first functional molecule comprising polyethylene glycol. The bottom surface of the nanoaperture can be functionalized with at least one second molecule comprising polyethylene glycol, for example, a silane-PEG molecule. The second molecule can further include a moiety, such as biotin, which is capable of binding a target biomolecule, which in turn can bind to a biomolecule of interest for single molecule fluorescence imaging analysis. Fabrication techniques of the nanoaperture are also provided.

Functionalized surfaces and methods related thereto

Methods of forming and resulting devices are described that include graphene devices on boron nitride. Selected methods of forming and resulting devices include graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) including boron nitride.

A fabricated electromechanical device is disclosed herein. An exemplary device includes, a substrate, at least one layer of a high-transconductance material separated from the substrate by a dielectric medium, a first electrode in electrical contact with the at least one layer of a high-transconductance material and separated from the substrate by at least one first supporting member, a second electrode in electrical contact with the layer of a high-transconductance material and separated from the substrate by at least one second supporting member, where the first electrode is electrically separate from the second electrode, and a third electrode separated from the at least one layer of high-transconductance material by a dielectric medium and separated from each of the first electrode and the second electrode by a dielectric medium.

Electromechanical devices and methods for fabrication of the same

This disclosure provides example methods, devices, and systems for a two dimensional material-based pressure sensor. A sensor device is provided that includes a substrate having a back electrode, a conductive layer in communication with the back electrode, and an insulating layer coupled to the conductive layer. The insulating layer includes one or more cavity regions. A sensor membrane comprising a two-dimensional material is disposed adjacent to the insulating layer and covering at least one of the one or more cavity regions. A first sensing electrode is in electrical communication with a first region of the sensor membrane, and a second sensing electrode is in communication with a second region of the sensor membrane. The sensor membrane is configured to respond to pressure changes exerted on the sensor device.

Two dimensional material-based pressure sensor

A radio frequency (RF) receiver including a baseband circuitry. The baseband circuitry can include a graphene nano-electro-mechanical (GNEMS) based system, a receiver, and a front-end mixer. The GNEMS based system can include a source, a drain, a gate and a nano-scale suspended graphene resonator. The graphene resonator can be suspended between the source and the drain. The receiver circuitry can be disposed on the baseband and configured to receive an RF signal. The front-end mixer can be disposed between the GNEMS based system and the receiver circuitry. The baseband circuitry can be configured such that an incoming signal sees frequency selective impedance at the receiver circuitry.

Ozone treated carbon electrodes can provide increased catalytic activity, such as in a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) or other electrochemical device or other device that could benefit from an increased catalytic activity, such as lithium ion or other batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, or electroanalytical instruments. Devices, methods of making, and methods of using are discussed.

Force, pressure, or stiffness measurement or calibration can be provided, such as by using a graphene or other sheet membrane, which can provide a specified number of monolayers suspended over a substantially circular well. In an example, the apparatus can include a substrate, including a substantially circular well. A deformable sheet membrane can be suspended over the well. The membrane can be configured to include a specified integer number of one or more monolayers. A storage medium can comprise accompanying information about the suspended membrane or the substrate that, with a deflection displacement response of the suspended membrane to an applied force or pressure, provides a measurement of the applied force or pressure.
