A connector assembly is provided. The connector assembly includes a housing having a first end that includes one or more mechanical interfaces thereon. The at least one mechanical interface configured to selectively engage a corresponding mechanical interface on an electrosurgical generator. A second end is configured to selectively engage an end of an electrosurgical cable to couple the electrosurgical generator to an electrosurgical instrument. A plurality of splines extends along an interior of the housing and is configured for electrical communication with a plurality of corresponding electrical conductors of the electrosurgical cable.

A radio-frequency (RF) amplifier having a direct response to an arbitrary signal source to output one or more electrosurgical waveforms within an energy activation request, is disclosed. The RF amplifier includes a phase compensator coupled to an RF arbitrary source, the phase compensator configured to generate a reference signal as a function of an arbitrary RF signal from the RF arbitrary source and a phase control signal; at least one error correction amplifier coupled to the phase compensator, the at least one error correction amplifier configured to output a control signal at least as a function of the reference signal; and at least one power component coupled to the at least one error correction amplifier and to a high voltage power source configured to supply high voltage direct current thereto, the at least one power component configured to operate in response to the control signal to generate at least one component of the at least one electrosurgical waveform.

A switched resonant power amplifier system for ultrasonic transducers is disclosed. The system includes an amplifier that receives and processes a driver output signal for generating a drive signal that is provided to an ultrasonic device for controlling output of the ultrasonic device. An output control circuit receives and processes a signal related to a feedback signal generated by the ultrasonic device and a divider reference signal, and generates a compensated clock signal that is adjusted for at least one of phase and frequency differences between the received feedback signal and the divider reference signal. A compensated drive circuit receives and processes the compensated clock signal for generating the divider reference signal, and for generating the driver output signal.

Switched resonant ultrasonic power amplifier system

A system and method that improves and automates the measurement of power generated by an electrosurgical generator. An active load device is coupled to the generator output and is configured to simulate the change in tissue characteristics, such as an impedance change, that occurs when such tissue undergoes electrosurgical treatment. The active load faithfully simulates the change in tissue characteristics caused by a particular mode of electrosurgical energy delivery, such as without limitation, changes caused in response to a cutting mode, a coagulation mode, a blending mode, a sealing mode, and the like. Tests are conducted in accordance with test profiles containing target impedance and power values of the test scenario. A plurality of profiles may be stored for testing under various simulated operating conditions.

System and method for electrosurgical generator power management

An electrosurgical system is disclosed. The system includes an electrosurgical instrument having at least one electrode configured as a first sensor for measuring a voltage drop therethrough and a temperature sensor for a thermal sensor configured to measure a temperature difference across the at least one electrode; and a generator including an output stage coupled to the at least one electrode, the output stage configured to generate radio frequency energy; and a controller configured to determine actual radio frequency current based on the voltage drop and electrical resistivity of the at least one electrode and radio frequency power based on the measured temperature difference and the thermal conductivity of the at least one electrode.

Electrosurgical apparatus with integrated energy sensing at tissue site

An electro-thermal apparatus configured to treat tissue is provided. The electro-thermal apparatus including an electrosurgical cable configured to couple to an electrosurgical energy source. The electrosurgical cable includes supply and return lines that are wound in a double helix arrangement around a dielectric insulator within the electrosurgical cable. An electro-thermal element is provided at a distal end of the electrosurgical cable. The electro-thermal element is in electrical communication with the supply and return lines via corresponding first and second conductive traces. The first and second conductive traces have a patterned geometry and resistivity configured to convert electrical energy provided by the supply and return lines to thermal energy for treating tissue.

An electrosurgical system is disclosed. The electrosurgical system includes an electrosurgical generator adapted to supply electrosurgical energy to tissue. The electrosurgical generator includes impedance sensing circuitry which measures impedance of tissue, a microprocessor configured to determine whether a tissue reaction has occurred as a function of a minimum impedance value and a predetermined rise in impedance, wherein tissue reaction corresponds to a boiling point of tissue fluid, and an electrosurgical instrument including at least one active electrode adapted to apply electrosurgical energy to tissue.

A surgical instrument includes one or more electrically-conductive plates adapted to connect to a source of energy for supplying energy to tissue to treat tissue, a temperature sensing element, and a thermal spread control assembly coupled to the temperature sensing element. The thermal spread control assembly is configured to determine a flow rate of heat energy across the temperature sensing element and to control the energy applied to the electrically-conductive plate and/or control active cooling of the temperature sensing element in accordance with the determined flow rate of heat energy.

The system also includes an electrosurgical instrument operatively connected to the one or more supply lines and one or more return electrodes operatively connected to the one or more return lines. The system further includes an electrosurgical cable including one or more supply lines and one or more return lines, which are wound in a double helix fashion such that the electrical field along the cable is mitigated along the length thereof.

System and method for electrosurgical generator power measurement

A circuit for controlling the discharging of stored energy in an electrosurgical generator includes a pulse modulator which controls an output of a power supply. At least one comparator is configured to provide an error signal to the pulse modulator based on a comparison between an output signal generated by the power supply and a feedback signal generated in response to the application of energy to tissue. A discharge circuit is configured to control the discharge of the output of the power supply to an inductive load disposed in parallel with the output of the power supply based on the comparison between the output signal and the feedback signal. The discharge circuit provides a rapid response and time rate control of the delivered electrosurgical energy by controlling the power supply and delivered RF energy in real time, based on a feedback signal generated in response to the application of energy to tissue.
