Aspects of the invention provide a process for upgrading a hydrocarbon feed. The process includes providing a hydrocarbon feed and a utility fluid. Then selectively extracting from the feed at least a portion of particulates to produce a raffinate and an extract. Third hydroprocessing at least a portion of the raffinate.

Hydrocarbon upgrading

A process is provided for converting a mixture of carbon monoxide and molecular hydrogen to an alcohol mixture, which is separated into a first methanol-containing stream and a second Calcohol-containing stream. The first stream's methanol is reacted to produce a mixture of aromatics and aliphatics. The second stream's Calcohol is converted to hydrocarbon including ethylene and propylene.

Carbon monoxide and molecular hydrogen are converted to an alcohol mixture, which is separated into a first methanol-containing stream and a second Calcohol-containing stream. The first stream's methanol is converted into a propylene-rich product, and the second stream's Calcohol is converted to ethylene and additional propylene.

Production of C2+ olefins

This disclosure relates to the production of xylenes from syngas, in which the syngas is converted to an aromatic product by reaction with a Fischer-Tropsch catalyst and an aromatization catalyst. The Fischer-Tropsch catalyst and aromatization catalyst may be different catalysts or combined into a single catalyst. The aromatic product is then subjected to selective alkylation with methanol and/or carbon monoxide and hydrogen to increase its p-xylene content.

Production of xylenes from syngas

Methods for upgrading a hydrocarbon feed are disclosed. The methods include a hydrocarbon feed having an insolubility number, I, with at least a first fluid to form a fluid-feed mixture; and inducing a centrifugal force to the fluid-feed mixture sufficient to form at least a higher density portion and a lower density portion, said lower density portion having an insolubility number, I, wherein I/I&#x2266;0.95. Methods and apparatus for hydroprocessing the treated feed and blending with a fuel oil blend-stock are also described.

Method and apparatus for improving a hydrocarbon feed

This invention relates to a process for producing ethanol comprises supplying a feed comprising carbon monoxide, hydrogen and dimethyl ether to a reaction zone operated under conditions such that (i) part of the carbon monoxide in the feed reacts with part of the hydrogen in the feed to produce methanol; (ii) part of the carbon monoxide in the feed reacts with at least part of the dimethyl ether in the feed to produce methyl acetate; and (iii) part of the hydrogen in the feed reacts with at least part of the methyl acetate produced in (ii) to produce an effluent comprising methanol and ethanol. At least part of the ethanol is recovered from the effluent and at least part of the methanol is dehydrated to produce dimethyl ether, which is recycled to the reaction zone.

The invention relates to a process for upgrading pyrolysis tar in the presence of a utility fluid. The utility fluid contains 1-ring and/or 2-ring aromatics and has a final boiling point &#x2266;430&#xb0; C. The invention also relates to the upgraded pyrolysis tar, and to the use of the upgraded pyrolysis tar, e.g., for fuel oil blending.

Catalyst regeneration process

The invention relates to upgraded pyrolysis products, hydroconversion processes for upgrading products obtained from hydrocarbon pyrolysis, equipment useful for such processes. In particular the invention provides methods for reducing coke fouling in such equipment.

Preheating feeds to hydrocarbon pyrolysis products hydroprocessing

In a process for producing xylene by transalkylation of a C+ aromatic hydrocarbon feedstock with a Cand/or Caromatic hydrocarbon, the C+ aromatic hydrocarbon feedstock, at least one Cand/or Caromatic hydrocarbon and hydrogen are contacted with a first catalyst comprising (i) a first molecular sieve having a Constraint Index in the range of about 3 to about 12 and (ii) at least first and second different metals or compounds thereof of Groups 6 to 12 of the Periodic Table of the Elements. Contacting with the first catalyst is conducted under conditions effective to dealkylate aromatic hydrocarbons in the feedstock containing C+ alkyl groups and to saturate C+ olefins formed so as to produce a first effluent. At least a portion of the first effluent is then contacted with a second catalyst comprising a second molecular sieve having a Constraint Index less than 3 under conditions effective to transalkylate C+ aromatic hydrocarbons with said at least one C-Caromatic hydrocarbon to form a second effluent comprising xylene.

Transalkylation of heavy aromatic hydrocarbon feedstocks

This disclosure relates to a process for regenerating a catalyst composition, wherein the catalyst composition comprising a molecular sieve and at least 10 wt. % coke having a C/H molar ratio in the range of 0.26 to 5, the process comprising (a) contacting the catalyst composition with a first oxidative medium having oxygen and water at first conditions sufficient to form a first regenerated catalyst composition having at least 50 wt. % less coke than the catalyst composition; and then (b) contacting at least a portion of the first regenerated catalyst composition with a second oxidative medium having oxygen, and optionally water, at second conditions sufficient to form a second regenerated catalyst composition having at least 50 wt % less coke than the first regenerated catalyst composition, wherein the catalyst composition in step (a) and the first regenerated catalyst in step (b) have contacted total amount of water in the range of 1 to 50 weight water per weight of the second regenerated catalyst composition.

A guard bed or absorber is placed upstream of a transalkylation reactor to avoid deposition of halide and/or halogen species on the catalysts in said reactor.

Purification of transalkylation feedstock

In a process for producing xylene by transalkylation of a C+aromatic hydrocarbon feedstock with a Cand/or Caromatic hydrocarbon, the C+aromatic hydrocarbon feedstock, at least one Cand/or Caromatic hydrocarbon and hydrogen are contacted with a first catalyst under conditions effective to dealkylate aromatic hydrocarbons in the feedstock containing C+alkyl groups and to saturate C+olefins formed so as to produce a first effluent. At least a portion of the first effluent is then contacted with a second catalyst under conditions effective to transalkylate C+aromatic hydrocarbons with said at least one C-Caromatic hydrocarbon to form a second effluent comprising xylene.
