We disclose an optical device comprising an optical stack. The optical stack comprises a first substrate layer, a second substrate layer, and an optical medium located between the first and second substrate layers. The optical stack is bent such that a second portion of the optical stack extends behind a first portion of the optical stack.

Multiple layer optical cells

An LCD display, comprising an active display area, a backlight to illuminate the active display area, and an LCD display stack. The LCD display stack may comprise a substrate, a liquid crystal layer over the substrate, and liquid crystal cover layer. The substrate, the liquid crystal layer, and the liquid crystal cover layer define a liquid crystal cell. The LCD display stack has an edge seal extending between the substrate and the liquid cover layer, and extends over the active display area and beyond the active display area to bend around an edge of the backlight, such that the edge seal lies beyond the active display area.

Reduced border displays

A device having a stack of layers defining source and pixel conductors at a first level, gate and common conductors at a second level, semiconductor channels between the source and pixel conductors and gate dielectric capacitively coupling the semiconductor channels to the gate conductors. The pixel and common conductors are configured such that, in use, a change in potential difference between the pixel and common conductors in a pixel region induces a change in one or more optical properties of a liquid crystal material in the pixel region.

Thin-film transistor (TFT) architecture for liquid crystal displays

A technique of producing a liquid crystal device, comprising: providing a cell assembly comprising a liquid crystal material contained directly between (i) a polariser component comprising an active film and no more than one support film, and (ii) a first control component including a stack of layers defining electrical control circuitry; and containing further liquid crystal material directly between the polariser component of the assembly and another control component including another stack of layers defining electrical control circuitry.

Liquid crystal devices

A technique, comprising: removing a protective film from one side of a polarisation filter component to expose a dichroic doped polymer active film or a layer formed in situ on the dichroic doped polymer active film; and thereafter forming in situ on the side of the polarisation filter component one or more functional layers of a liquid crystal device.

A display device for conformal mounting on a curved surface inclined at an oblique angle relative to a horizontal plane, the display device comprising: a plurality of pixels, a first set of conductive lines connected to the plurality of pixels; and a second set of conductive lines connected to the plurality of pixels, wherein the first set of conductive lines and the second set of conductive lines are arranged to define a shape of each of the plurality of pixels such that the pixels appear, to a viewer, to extend at least one of horizontally or vertically across the display device when the display device is mounted on the curved surface.
