An insert is assembled to a base interior part at either an edge or a corner of the part that is later wrapped with a cut and sewn jacket cover. The assembly comprises a substrate, an insert and a cover. The substrate has a base edge and the insert has a contour defining edge attached to the substrate with the contour defining edge aligned with the base edge. The cover is wrapped over the insert and the substrate to provide a wrapped edge that covers over the contour defining edge. A method of manufacturing a covered interior part of a vehicle comprises securing an insert having a contour defining edge to the interior panel and wrapping the insert and the interior panel with a cover.

A deployable armrest writing assembly comprises an armrest, a writing surface, and a bridging segment. The bridging segment is connected to the writing surface. The bridging segment is pivotable with respect to the armrest and the writing surface so as to pivot the writing surface 180&#xb0; from a storage configuration to a deployed configuration over a top surface of the armrest.

A charging assembly for a mobile device in a vehicle includes a slot positioned in a vehicle console wherein the slot comprises a floating floor having at least one connector. The charging assembly further includes a spring positioned between the floating floor and a bottom surface of the charging assembly. An armrest unit is disclosed that is selectively moveable between a first configuration, whereby the armrest is used as a traditional armrest, and a second configuration whereby the armrest is usable as a writing surface. The armrest unit comprises an armrest and a mounting pin. The armrest has a first section constructed of a compressible material and a second section connected to one side of the first section and constructed of a non-compressible material. The mounting pin engages a mounting channel in the armrest. The armrest is selectively rotatable about the mounting pin to move the armrest 180&#xb0; between the first configuration and the second configuration. A method of operating the armrest unit is also disclosed.

A charging and disinfecting tray for a vehicle is disclosed. The charging and disinfecting tray comprises a wireless charger for charging an electronic device and a lighting apparatus. The lighting apparatus comprises a disinfecting apparatus, which incorporates at least one photoluminescent indicator. A controller is in communication with the wireless charger and the lighting apparatus and is operable to control the photoluminescent indicator by initiating a sterilization operation with the disinfecting apparatus.

A method of controlling an ambient light feature of a cup holder assembly having one or more cup holders includes providing a light source having a light output of varying luminous intensity, sensing an amount of light reflected from an object received in one of the cup holders using a light sensor, and controlling the luminous intensity of the light output based on the amount of light reflected and the distance between the object and a sidewall of the cup holder assembly. In this method, a change in the amount of light reflected from an object received in one of the cup holders correlates to a change in the luminous intensity provided by the light source, and a change in the distance between the object received the cup holder and the sidewall of the cup holders correlates to a change in the luminous intensity provided by the light source.

According to one aspect of the present invention, an illuminated cupholder assembly is disclosed. The assembly comprises an upper portion comprising a lower mating portion forming a first diameter and a base portion comprising an upper mating portion forming a second diameter. A light ring is disposed substantially between the lower mating portion and the upper mating portion in an assembled configuration. The cupholder assembly comprises a photoluminescent portion configured to convert a first wavelength to a second wavelength to illuminate at least a portion of the cupholder assembly.

A cup holder assembly includes a first body defining an upper sidewall between a first open end and a second open end and a second body defining a lower sidewall between a third open end and a lower wall. The second body is affixable with the first body in a first position with the lower sidewall extending continuously with the upper sidewall and a second position with a gap defined between the upper sidewall and the lower sidewall.

An active bolster for an automotive vehicle includes a plastic-molded outer trim panel with a welding track on an inside surface and a plastic-molded expandable bladder member with a welding flange along a peripheral edge with a first surface facing the trim panel inside surface and a second opposed surface. The welding track and the welding flange are joined by a hot weld to form a sealed chamber. A plurality of counterbores are distributed over the welding flange in order to form rivets that mechanically strengthen the weld. Each counterbore is comprised of a neck portion penetrating the first surface and a head portion penetrating the second surface. Each head portion includes an internal ledge extending laterally from the neck portion. The hot weld includes plastic-molded material that flows from the welding track through each neck portion and spreading onto the internal ledge in each head portion.
