Accessory connector for a portable communications device

A sizeable attachment device includes a flexible member (102) and a set of first (108) and second (106) sockets which receive a set of back-to back studs formed from back-to-back pairs (110, 112). In a first attachment mode stud 110 is snap fitted to socket 108. In a second attachment mode stud 110 is snap fitted to socket 106, and stud 112 is snap fitted to socket 108. The sizeable attachment device forms two sizes of loops for receiving belts or holsters having different widths. The sizeable attachment device provides for a clean and good looking attachment when either in the first or second attachment modes.

Sizeable attachment device

An electrical contact assembly (10) comprises a housing having a bottom portion (26) and a top portion (24), the top portion having a first inverted wall section (29) and a second inverted wall section (28), the housing having at least one aperture (31 and 32), the aperture extending from the bottom of the first inverted wall section to the bottom of the second inverted wall section. The assembly further comprises a substrate (20) within the housing having at least one contact area (22), and a contact finger (11) for placement in the housing aperture, the contact finger having at least a first portion (12), a second portion (14) and a third portion (16). The first portion protrudes below the aperture and contacts the contact area (22) on the substrate. The second portion (14) clips on to opposing walls of the second inverted wall (28) and the third portion (16) protrudes from the aperture (31) forming an external contact area.

Self-retaining contact assembly

A housing assembly 100 which uses substantially spherical pieces (rubber balls) 106 for supports (feet). The balls 106 drop into the bottom housing member 104 which has apertures 202 which allow the balls 106 to rest. Each of the balls 106 protrude from the bottom portion of the housing. Preferably, each of the aperatures 202 have a peripheral wall 402 around them which surround and capture each of the balls (stop the balls from rolling during the assembly process). Preferably, an electronic circuit board 310 is sandwiched between the rubber balls and the top housing member 102. The two housing members 102 and 104 are then latched together causing the balls 106 to compress and load the housing assembly, taking care of any tolerances the mechanical parts in the assembly may have and also hold the electronic circuit board 310 in place.

A display system includes a liquid crystal display, a light guide behind the display, and light emitting diodes. The light guide is a molded slab of clear material with a front display surface a rear surface and six bordering surfaces with two planes depressed into its rear surface and having two hollow half cylindrical extensions integrally molded with closed top and bottom ends. The rear surface and bordering surfaces and outer surface of the extensions are coated with reflective white paint. These extensions receive light from surface mounted LED's which are positioned directly below the extensions to redirect the light into the light guide.
